Does the Parable of the Wedding Banquet confirm the abrogation of the Israelites and invitation to the Gentiles?

I have seen this on another site and wonder if this is the correct explanation to Matt 22 – that the Israelites are destroyed and the kingdom is taken from them and the gentiles are now invited.

Matthew 22:1-10 - for ease of reference

22 Jesus spoke to them again in parables, saying:

2 “The kingdom of heaven is like a king who prepared a wedding banquet for his son.

3 He sent his servants to those who had been invited to the banquet to tell them to come, but they refused to come.

4 “Then he sent some more servants and said, ‘Tell those who have been invited that I have prepared my dinner: My oxen and fattened cattle have been butchered, and everything is ready. Come to the wedding banquet.’

5 “But they paid no attention and went off—one to his field, another to his business.

6 The rest seized his servants, mistreated them and killed them.

7 The king was enraged. He sent his army and destroyed those murderers and burned their city.

8 “Then he said to his servants, ‘The wedding banquet is ready, but those I invited did not deserve to come.

9 So go to the street corners and invite to the banquet anyone you find.’

10 So the servants went out into the streets and gathered all the people they could find, the bad as well as the good, and the wedding hall was filled with guests.

Cambridge Greek Testament for Schools and Colleges commentary states:

As of the other parables of the Passion, the primary intention of this regards the present and the immediate future. The parable falls into two divisions, (1) vv. 1 7; (2) vv. 8 14. In the first (1) the servants are John Baptist and the first disciples of Christ; the feast is the Kingdom of God, or the Christian Church; the invited guests, who refuse to come, are the Jews; the vengeance taken was literally fulfilled at the siege of Jerusalem, a. d. 70. (2) This division relates to the preaching of the Gospel to the Gentiles. As in the Net (ch. 13:47) or in the Corn-field (ch. 13:24), worthy and unworthy are mingled until the King separates.

Matt 23:37-39 at the conclusion of Jesus' teaching in the Temple:
O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, who kills the prophets and stones those sent to her, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were unwilling! Look, your house is left to you desolate. For I tell you that you will not see Me again until you say, ‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord.’”

I see you might want to read Romans 9 about the Israelites not being left out, as it seems are left out.

Comment:

It is impossible for God the Father and Jesus Christ to cast away the 12 physical Tribes of Hebrews, if they were to do so, that would be breaking promises and covenants made with the three patriarchs.

If any believe God will not honor His word ---- they do not know God.

If the Father were to do so --- how then can you trust Him with your salvation??

If they do not keep their word for THEIR Chosen People why on earth would They do so for you -- are you that special?? really??

I have seen this on another site and wonder if this is the correct explanation to Matt 22 – that the Israelites are destroyed and the kingdom is taken from them and the gentiles are now invited.

Mat 22:1 And Jesus answered and spake unto them again by parables, and said,
Mat 22:2 The kingdom of heaven is like unto a certain king, which made a marriage for his son.

Mat 22:3 And sent forth his servants to call them that were bidden to the wedding: and they would not come.

Mat 22:8 Then saith he to his servants, The wedding is ready, but they which were bidden were not worthy.
Mat 22:9 Go ye therefore into the highways, and as many as ye shall find, bid to the marriage.

Mat 22:10 So those servants went out into the highways, and gathered together all as many as they found, both bad and good: and the wedding was furnished with guests.

Mat 22:11 And when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man which had not on a wedding garment:
Mat 22:12 And he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding garment? And he was speechless.

Mat 22:13 Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
Mat 22:14 For many are called, but few are chosen.

What would be the meaning here be kind to strangers.

But the lesson seems to be the Jews rejected Jesus.

The Gentiles were given a chance at salvation.

But also a warning to the Gentiles concerning that salvation.

Like the man that did not come with a wedding dress.

Mat 27:22 Pilate saith unto them, What shall I do then with Jesus which is called Christ? They all say unto him, Let him be crucified.

Mat 23:37 O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!
Mat 23:38 Behold, your house is left unto you desolate.
Mat 23:39 For I say unto you, Ye shall not see me henceforth, till ye shall say, Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord.

The Jews rejected the Son and the marriage of it.

They killed the servants the prophets and those sent to them.

Act 11:17 Forasmuch then as God gave them the like gift as he did unto us, who believed on the Lord Jesus Christ; what was I, that I could withstand God?
Act 11:18 When they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, Then hath God also to the Gentiles granted repentance unto life.

Rom 11:11 I say then, Have they stumbled that they should fall? God forbid: but rather through their fall salvation is come unto the Gentiles, for to provoke them to jealousy.

Salvation offered to the Gentiles.

Rom 11:20 Well; because of unbelief they were broken off, and thou standest by faith. Be not highminded, but fear:
Rom 11:21 For if God spared not the natural branches, take heed lest he also spare not thee.
Rom 11:22 Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell, severity; but toward thee, goodness, if thou continue in his goodness: otherwise thou also shalt be cut off.

A warning to the Gentiles that they can be cut off if they do not do what is right like the Jews who did not do what is right.

2Ti 3:4 lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;
2Ti 3:5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.
2Ti 3:7 Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.

Mat 7:21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
Mat 7:23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

Not everybody puts on the wedding dress falling short.

God said to the Gentiles continue in His goodness or you will be cut off.

These people did not continue in the goodness of God.

Which they loved sin more than God.

They came to wedding with no wedding dress.

Jer 31:35 Thus saith the LORD, which giveth the sun for a light by day, and the ordinances of the moon and of the stars for a light by night, which divideth the sea when the waves thereof roar; The LORD of hosts is his name:

Jer 31:36 If those ordinances depart from before me, saith the LORD, then the seed of Israel also shall cease from being a nation before me for ever.

Jer 31:37 Thus saith the LORD; If heaven above can be measured, and the foundations of the earth searched out beneath, I will also cast off all the seed of Israel for all that they have done, saith the LORD.

Israel will never cease from being a nation.

Rom 11:1 I say then, Hath God cast away his people? God forbid. For I also am an Israelite, of the seed of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin.
Rom 11:2 God hath not cast away his people which he foreknew. Wot ye not what the scripture saith of Elias? how he maketh intercession to God against Israel, saying,
Rom 11:3 Lord, they have killed thy prophets, and digged down thine altars; and I am left alone, and they seek my life.
Rom 11:4 But what saith the answer of God unto him? I have reserved to myself seven thousand men, who have not bowed the knee to the image of Baal.
Rom 11:5 Even so then at this present time also there is a remnant according to the election of grace.

God has not cast away His people.

Act 1:6 When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel?
Act 1:7 And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power.

Jer 46:27 But fear not thou, O my servant Jacob, and be not dismayed, O Israel: for, behold, I will save thee from afar off, and thy seed from the land of their captivity; and Jacob shall return, and be in rest and at ease, and none shall make him afraid.

Jer 46:28 Fear thou not, O Jacob my servant, saith the LORD: for I am with thee; for I will make a full end of all the nations whither I have driven thee: but I will not make a full end of thee, but correct thee in measure; yet will I not leave thee wholly unpunished.

The kingdom on earth will be restored to Israel.

Rom 11:25 For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in.
Rom 11:26 And so all Israel shall be saved: as it is written, There shall come out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob:
Rom 11:27 For this is my covenant unto them, when I shall take away their sins.

All Israel shall be saved in the future when salvation is no longer available to the Gentiles.

Rom 2:28 For he is not a Jew, which is one outwardly; neither is that circumcision, which is outward in the flesh:
Rom 2:29 But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God.

Eph 2:11 Wherefore remember, that ye being in time past Gentiles in the flesh, who are called Uncircumcision by that which is called the Circumcision in the flesh made by hands;
Eph 2:12 That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world:
Eph Israel 2:13 But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ.

When a Gentile is saved they are a Jew inwardly and belong to the commonwealth of Israel.

Israel is the Church.

But they had a temporary set back but everything will be restored to them after they have borne their shame.

Rev 21:12 And had a wall great and high, and had twelve gates, and at the gates twelve angels, and names written thereon, which are the names of the twelve tribes of the children of Israel:
Rev 21:13 On the east three gates; on the north three gates; on the south three gates; and on the west three gates.
Rev 21:14 And the wall of the city had twelve foundations, and in them the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.
Rev 21:15 And he that talked with me had a golden reed to measure the city, and the gates thereof, and the wall thereof.

The 12 tribes of Israel and the 12 apostles are written in the New Jerusalem.

From Abraham to Jacob, Israel, to David to Jesus to the millennial reign to the New Jerusalem it is Israel all the way.

Israel is the Church.

Will God reject the Gentiles because some of them reject the truth.

And neither will He reject Israel because some of them reject the truth.

Rom 11:27 For this is my covenant unto them, when I shall take away their sins.
Rom 11:28 As concerning the gospel, they are enemies for your sakes: but as touching the election, they are beloved for the fathers' sakes.
Rom 11:29 For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance.

The gifts and calling of God are without repentance on His part.

So Israel will always be God's chosen people and He will always restore them.

Which Jesus said the Jews will not see Him again until they acknowledge Jesus as Messiah.

Which God will turn Israel to the truth and then all things will be restored to them.

It is impossible for God the Father and Jesus Christ to cast away the 12 physical Tribes of Hebrews, if they were to do so, that would be breaking promises and covenants made with the three patriarchs.

God has fulfilled every promise he made to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Show one promise that hasn't been fulfilled, or isn't being fulfilled, in Christ

I see you might want to read Romans 9 about the Israelites not being left out, as it seems are left out.

Depends how you read Romans 9 – but you haven’t explained the parable –
  • Who was invited initially?
  • Who killed the servants (I understand that as the prophets)?
  • Who was destroyed?
  • Who was then invited?

From what I understand (please correct me if I’m wrong).
You seem to accept that yes, the Israelites were destroyed and the gentiles were called in as well, but Israel will be restored.

I agree they will not be wiped out, not were the others like the Ten Lost Tribes, Amalekites etc...

Yes, some Israelites will be accepted - as the disciples were Israelites as were others who were following Jesus at the time as well as those that followed Abraham i.e. following God and his word. we also have Chrisitan Jews (Jews being a race not a religion from Judea not Abraham, Moses Jacob (Israel)

You seem to have a misunderstanding that they are chosen forever, this is not the case, it was on condition

**Strong's Concordance 5769**
**olam: long duration, antiquity, futurity [so not forever]**

Deut 11:26-27 - 26 See, I am setting before you today a blessing and a curse—
27 the blessing if you obey the commands of the LORD your God that I am giving you today;
28 the curse if you disobey the commands of the LORD your God and turn from the way that I command you today by following other gods, which you have not known.

So, yes Jews can be saved but they are no longer the only group, but no new kingdom of a special / chosen people!

God has fulfilled every promise he made to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Show one promise that hasn't been fulfilled, or isn't being fulfilled, in Christ
The "Ten Lost Tribes" weren't entirely lost, Amalekites were not completely lost.

Do you believe the WORD of God?

Jeremiah 31

35 Thus saith the LORD, which giveth the sun for a light by day, [and] the ordinances of the moon and of the stars for a light by night, which divideth the sea when the waves thereof roar; The LORD of hosts [is] his name:

36 If those ordinances depart from before me, saith the LORD, [then] the seed of Israel also shall cease from being a nation before me for ever.

37 Thus saith the LORD; If heaven above can be measured, and the foundations of the earth searched out beneath,

Then;

I will also cast off all the seed of Israel for all that they have done, saith the LORD.

Does the sun come up every morning?
Does the moon show up every night

I see the parable as dealing with those within Israel. The establishment of the new covenant promised to Israel was predicated on the nation being receptive. Many were called, but few were chosen.

Mat_3:7 But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees come to his baptism, he said unto them, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come?

One might consider at the end of the tribulation that the faithful remnant of Israel will be highly motivated to receive their earthly kingdom.

Jacob prophesied that the seed of Ephraim, which is a name synonymous with Israel in scripture, would become a fullness of gentiles in fulfillment of the promise to Abraham that his seed would become a vast multitude that no man could number. The seed of Israel is the remnant of Israel that became the holy nation of God at Pentecost, that has continued since then to grow into a vast nation of peoples. So God has indeed fulfilled, and is fulfilling, his promise to Abraham

And [Jacob] his father refused, and said, I know, my son, I know. [Manasseh] also shall become a people, and he also shall be great: but truly his younger brother [Ephraim] shall be greater than he, and his seed shall become a fullness of gentiles. Genesis 48:19
But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light: 1 Peter 2:9

Firstly, it would be helpful if you explained the parable – then we can discuss any disagreements.

Quick response;

Matt 21 – can it not be taken away or abrogated?

43 “Therefore I tell you that the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people who will produce its fruit.

Also - Jeremiah 18 – clearly God can abrogate

5 Then the word of the Lord came to me. 6 He said, “Can I not do with you, Israel, as this potter does?” declares the Lord. “Like clay in the hand of the potter, so are you in my hand, Israel. 7 If at any time I announce that a nation or kingdom is to be uprooted, torn down and destroyed, 8 and if that nation I warned repents of its evil, then I will relent and not inflict on it the disaster I had planned. 9 And if at another time I announce that a nation or kingdom is to be built up and planted, 10 and if it does evil in my sight and does not obey me, then I will reconsider the good I had intended to do for it.

There are many passages to support this, but again we can discuss this after – the main point was what does the parable say.

Depends how you read Romans 9 – but you haven’t explained the parable –
  • Who was invited initially?
  • Who killed the servants (I understand that as the prophets)?
  • Who was destroyed?
  • Who was then invited?

That answer is between God and you personally to hear truth in you from God for you in love and mercy to you too, thanks. God loves us all. if one, anyone does not get that, then there is no spark in having new life in the risen Son is there? Not to me at least!
Accepted, forgiven and sealed by God to see
Eph 1:13, sealed, to see Eph 1:6-7 and be new in love and mercy to all also

Replacement theology.
It states Israel is wiped out forever. They are reduced to nothing.

So when you see those adherents, they sorta preach from a different bible, where even romans 9-11 ( a no brainer) , gets twisted into; "see, see, Israel is cut off forever."
Replacement theology is a spirit, and it basically polutes the entire bible.

I guess in the book of Ruth, Ruth is not a Gentile, and Naomi actually should be banished.
Once the twisting starts, it spreads into a changed bible eventually.

I see it produces selfishness as Paul talks about not trusting in self or trusting any other flesh in Phil 3 or any works under law to be accepted by God
Paul gave it all up to win the supremacy of Jesus the risen one for us to be accepted as all are in the risen Son first. I with Father, all others in belief too, to learn new from any and all mistakes we all make or have made. Father is our friend to learn willingly from what is best to do or say, the same as Jesus did first in his walk here on earth, before his death took away all sin out of the way of Father for us to be new in love and mercy too, thank you Father and Son as Won for us all

If they do not keep their word for THEIR Chosen People why on earth would They do so for you -- are you that special?? really??
I always find it interesting that in theses types of discussions, the two wives are left out.

IOW, There is a REASON the bride of Christ is currently betrothed , (not married), and that consumation is in Heaven ( after the Jews are Gathered in Rev 14, vs 1-14)

( the Jews regrafted, in heaven, after their gathering DURING THE GT (REV 14))

THE 2 WIVES.
GOMER
RUTH.

Without the 2 wives on the table, the entire subject is misunderstood.
