If we are hated by unbelievers, then it's no surprise because the Lord Jesus did say that we would be hated by the world. That is to be expected and the Lord Jesus said they hate us because they hated Him first.
The really sad thing is when "Christians" hate other Christians, just because they don't agree with their theological views or they don't accept their denominations teaching.
I experienced strong opposition from my family and persecution from my uncle, when I announced that I will no longer be attending mass at our local Catholic Church, because I no longer identify as a "Roman Catholic". My argument was that I didn't choose to be a Roman Catholic, my parents "Christened" me into the Church as an infant.
My uncle was most offended when he found out that I was going to be baptised and join a Baptist Church. He saw that as a betrayal of my families heritage, saying that my ancestors were all Catholics for many centuries. He would have tried me for treason, if he could. But as it is he said that I am dead to him and he never wants to speak to me again.
Many of my relatives also avoid me and that's OK, I have lost a lot of "friends and relatives", but I have gained a new family which is made up of believers from all over the world.
The Lord Jesus gave believers an example in,
John 13:34-35 "A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another."
If the world (unbelievers), see that Christians are against each other, then that destroys their testimony and the opportunity to share the gospel is lost as well.
It's OK to disagree with each others views, as long as we agree on the core beliefs, such as we must not put anyone before God.
We must believe that the bible is Gods inspired word, and it must be our highest authority.
We must believe that, only Christ is sufficient for our salvation. We must acknowledge our personal sin and commit to following Christ as our Lord.
