talking about Greenland. I just seen in the news just now, the US is making a deal with Denmark to buy Greenland.

My thoughts exactly.

There are no Chinese or Russians on Greenland it is a NATO member from NATO's foundation so the US along with NATO(Denmark in that region) since 1949/1951 have been and are defending it. Leave Greenland under control of NATO and it's protected by all NATO members including the US or seize it and cut it's defense down to only the US. One way reduces it's defense and the other leaves it's defensive capabilities doubled. It's all about the greed of the elites wanting it's mineral resources because reducing a regions military capabilities makes it weaker not stronger. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pituffik_Space_Base

Yes there ARE Chinese and Russian ships all over Greenland. That's why Trump wants it. Denmark and Finland are extremely close to Greenland as well. But that's where the Russian nuclear missile silos are at. Chinese military ships and subs also loaded with missiles have been there along with fishing fleets. (For cover)

Today's military science is not the same as it once was. We AND NATO both need better security over that hunk of rock.

Denmark and NATO both have ignored this for long enough. With Trump and the Next president we are not going to be very popular with China or Russia. (They are not our friends unless we are drunk and stupid while they steal our wallet).

Venezuelan citizens have been cheering all week and thanking Trump non-stop while Democrats, Russians, And Chinese government officials cry about it.

Trump wants Greenland because of its rich resources , global warming is causing much of the snow and ice in Greenland to melt , that means that the resources there r and will b in the future , much easier to extract .

This is true....
But we don't need to make them a territory or state. Then the EPA will have authority....and refining the rare earth elements becomes too expensive to do.

But also....SECURITY. We need more military outposts and bases there. If you look at the polar map I provided it becomes obvious why.

Golden dome project is going to require the land. Now how we achieve both without making it a territory or state....dunno.

If you ever go to Bristol Bay you hear stories or see the Russian ships and know that this isn't exactly the friendly waters that you would love to believe it to be.

Kinda nuts too.
The sea is harsh enough trying to sink you the whole time with surprise storms, wild waves, and harsh climate. Then you have to dodge the predatory boats as well that want to steal your cargo and/or steal your boat. (Dead men tell no tales)

There's a LOT of Russians AND Chinese boats and gear that look identical to American made boats and gear for a REASON. So....most all fishermen do go out with firearms and ammo. And many have had a LOT of practice using them defending themselves.

Greenland should still be a territory of the USA is my only quibble but I love every single point John makes. It's a territory of Denmark anyways, it just go from being Denmark's territory to the USA's territory. As a territory we'd be able to develop it better while also fulfilling national security goals. While its tempting to think we'd get alot of resources from it, and there's potential to get some don't get me wrong, the real downfall or challenge is if it's an ice chest basically, it's similar to the critiques over Seward buying Alaska and why for his time it was seen as an absurd idea. The benefits might not be immediately realized, but you compare to how Alaska for a polar state has developped and it simply the best of all arctic territories.

Greenland is limited due to its geography but also highly specialized because of it too. Being a US territory helps it further develop into the 21st century while also remaining a free people and more aligned with the Americas Western hemisphere more solidly. The other challenge is just purely Denmark and Europe's ego over it lately, but really I mean it be a great deal for them, they offload a territory they can barely manage, get a huge injunction of cash and favorable soft power perks, Their only constant excuse is a tired refrain about how "Danes will decide" and their bluster coping about the end of their imperial days and their ego. For America even in a strictly inward looking lens then it's not as cynical and selfish as a resource or land grab, nor is it as paranoid of the Russians though they are a nuisance level threat and there are obvious strategic benefits to countering those threats in US taking Greenland. It's a greater vision though, God made us kings and priests we must think higher, praise Jesus.. Greenland is a midpoint between North America and Europe both geographically and culturally. By changing to US hands with favorable terms to Denmark, a soft and clean exit and transition, Greenland can become a hub not just strategically but politically and logistically.

Consider USA can integrate more with Europe, maybe qualify for special statuses with EU or perhaps for the initial years of the handover phase add special terms for the territory itself could be something of an experimental economic zone during a transition period between the USA and the EU more largely. It is a great meme for laughs of course so not trying to be too passionate, but it does hold a lot of real potential in many deep ways and the USA is serious about acquiring and seriously developing and integrating Greenland too in a sincere way. Great comments though by JohnDB well earned emojis, and praise Jesus, this the good stuff to read in the morning.

Phone rings. Bob Newhart picks it up at his desk in the State Department

BOB: Hello, this is Secretary Newhart... Yes, Mr. President... Uh-huh... Yes, I have a few minutes... What's this about?

long pause, Bob's eyes widen slightly

BOB: Greenland. You want to... buy Greenland. Again... No, no, I remember 2019, sir, I just thought we'd... moved past that...

pause

Yes, sir, I'm listening...

longer pause, Bob starts taking notes

BOB: So it's not about the minerals... Not about strategic military position... Not about Arctic shipping routes... It's about...

pause

Canada.

pause, Bob blinks

BOB: The threat from... Canada. Our NATO ally, Canada... Yes, sir, I understand they're to the North...

pause

BOB: Universal healthcare is... psychological warfare. I'm writing this down, sir...

scribbles on notepad

BOB: Uh-huh... They say "sorry" when WE bump into THEM and that's... I see... Undermining American confidence... Right...

pause

BOB: Oil reserves. Okay, now we're getting to... 500 billion barrels if we combine the US, Canada, and Venezuela... That's twice Saudi Arabia... Twenty times China...

adjusts glasses

BOB: Yes, sir, that is a lot of oil... No, I agree, that would be quite an advantage...

pause, Bob's expression becomes more confused

BOB: The hockey thing. You want me to write down... the hockey thing...

pause

BOB: Lake Placid, 1980, Miracle on Ice... Yes, I remember, sir, I watched it... And the Canadians were... seething... Because that should have been them beating the Russians...

pause

BOB: Then we took Wayne Gretzky... To Los Angeles... And that was the final indignity... We treated them like a farm league...

pause, Bob removes his glasses and rubs his eyes

BOB: Sir, are you saying our foreign policy toward Canada should factor in... hockey resentment from 1980?

pause

BOB: You are. Okay. I'm just... clarifying...

pause

BOB: Trudeau. Right. And there are people who say he's... Castro's illegitimate son...

pause

BOB: No, sir, I'm not saying it's true either, I'm just... writing it down because you asked me to...

pause

BOB: And Canada is still part of the British Empire... The Commonwealth, yes... They have the King on their money...

pause

BOB: And nobody can nurse a grudge like the British...

long pause

BOB: So your theory is that Canada - still bitter about hockey, still mad about Gretzky, led by Castro's possible son, backed by the British Empire - is sitting on 170 billion barrels of oil just WAITING for their moment...

pause

BOB: And Greenland is the buffer zone AND the staging area... Like in the board game Risk... Yes, sir, I've played Risk...

pause

BOB: So we buy Greenland, we have strategic positioning against Canada, and then we...

trails off

BOB: I'm sorry, what was that last part, sir?

pause, Bob's eyes widen

BOB: Maple syrup... You want to classify maple syrup as...

pause

BOB: Domestic terrorism.

long pause

BOB: Because of obesity and heart attacks... Major health issue in the US...

pause

BOB: And if maple syrup coming into the US is classified as domestic terrorism, that could justify the entire operation...

pause, Bob looks at his notepad in disbelief

BOB: The entire... operation to take Canada's oil reserves through Greenland... would be justified by... calling maple syrup... terrorism.

pause

BOB: Uh-huh... Because it's contributing to American deaths... Yes, I understand heart disease is the leading cause of death in America, sir, but...

pause

BOB: No, no, I hear you... Canadians KNOW maple syrup causes health problems... and they keep sending it anyway...

pause

BOB: That could be considered... biological warfare... With pancakes...

Bob sets down his pen

BOB: Mr. President, I'm going to ask you something, and I want you to really think about it... Have you discussed this plan with anyone else?

pause

BOB: Just me. Okay. Okay, that's... that's probably good...

pause

BOB: No, sir, I'm not saying it's crazy, I'm just saying that declaring war on Canada over syrup and Wayne Gretzky might be... difficult to sell to Congress...

pause

BOB: The oil reserves, yes, I understand that part makes strategic sense, but the maple syrup terrorism angle might...

pause

BOB: You've already talked to the FDA about reclassifying it... Of course you have...

pause

BOB: And they said what? They'd... consider it?

Bob puts his head in his hand

BOB: No, sir, I'm still here... Just processing...

pause

BOB: So let me make sure I understand the plan: We buy Greenland from Denmark...

pause

BOB: They don't want to sell it, yes, but we make them an offer they can't refuse...

pause

BOB: Not like The Godfather, sir, no, I understand... A legitimate business offer...

pause

BOB: Then from Greenland, we have strategic positioning against Canada... We declare maple syrup a controlled substance due to its contribution to American obesity...

pause

BOB: That gives us justification to... secure Canadian oil reserves for national security purposes... Because if we have their oil, we have 500 billion barrels total, which is twenty times what China has...

pause

BOB: And we solve the Canadian grudge problem dating back to 1980...

pause

BOB: And we eliminate the threat of British-backed, Castro-adjacent, healthcare-having, polite Canadians...

long pause

BOB: Mr. President, I'm going to be honest with you... I've been Secretary of State for...

looks at watch

...three months now... And this is by far the most creative use of Greenland I've ever heard...

pause

BOB: No, sir, creative is not the same as good...

pause

BOB: What do I think you should do?

long pause, Bob considers carefully

BOB: Well, sir... I think maybe we should start smaller... Perhaps we just... buy the maple syrup from Canada? You know, regular trade? They sell it to us, we give them money, nobody has to invade anybody...

pause

BOB: That's not strategic enough... Right...

pause

BOB: Sir, can I ask... does Melania know about this plan?

pause

BOB: She doesn't... And you'd like to keep it that way... Understood...

pause

BOB: No, sir, I will not be mentioning this in my memoirs...

pause

BOB: Yes, I'll prepare a briefing document... With all the points about hockey, Gretzky, Castro, maple syrup terrorism, and the 500 billion barrels...

pause

BOB: For the Joint Chiefs... You want to present this to the Joint Chiefs of Staff...

Bob closes his eyes

BOB: Sir, is there any chance... any chance at all... that we could just focus on something simple this week? Like... I don't know... a trade dispute with Luxembourg? Those are easy...

pause

BOB: Greenland is not Luxembourg... You're right about that, sir...

pause

BOB: Okay... Okay, I'll set up the meeting... Thursday at 2... Situation Room... "Operation Canadian Syrup"...

pause

BOB: You want to call it "Operation Gretzky"... Even better...

pause

BOB: Yes, sir... I'll have everything ready... No, I won't tell anyone...

pause

BOB: Have a good evening, sir...

Bob hangs up, stares at his notepad, picks up phone again

BOB: Hi, honey? Yeah, it's me... Remember when I took this job and you asked if I was sure? ... Yeah... I'm calling to say you were right...

Pretty sure I mentioned a year or two ago when Trrudeau finally resigned that ideally Canada would've been liberated by voting in the winning ticket of Wayne Gretzky/Celine Dion.

A better ticket than Ronald Reagan and Gerald Ford would have been. (Wayne Gretzky a better athlete than Gerald Ford and Celine Dion a greater performer than Ronald Reagan).

And see in post 52 you said Chinese and Russian navy ships were in Greenland which would mean military ships. The Chinese and Russian navy/military is not in or on Greenland. Trump did not say Chinese and Russia navy ships were all around Greenland he said "ships". This doesn't make much difference either if looking at the exact words Trump used because the entire population of Greenland is about 57,000 people so even if he meant cargo ships from China and Russia 57,000 people wont need very many ship loads of TV;s,phones and such per year in the first place. With only 57,000 people in Greenland the issue is you may want to put the Food, clothes TV's,phones and other goods they could consume all on the same ship.If you really want to scare yourself over a place that actually has Chinese vessels going in and out of it's ports 24 hours a day just go down to any of the ports in the US with a pair of binoculars. Or look at the Bella 1 that the Russian navy escorted up to the Arctic trade route and is entering right now. Which would only mean when it left Venezuela and they first refused to let the US Coast Guard board it there was a reason why an armed vessel could not stop an unarmed vessel, I.E armed Russian vessels operating in the Gulf escorted the Bella 1 out. The Venezuelan Frigate escorted it until the Russians took over and the the Frigate returned to Venezuela. That hurt Trumps pride so he turned his attention to the trade route Russia was escorting the Bella to. In other words Putin called his bluff to see if Trump would fire on the Russian navy and now he knows he wont. https://www.nytimes.com/2026/01/06/world/americas/russia-tanker-bella.html

Something I should add is to keep your eye out/heads up because I'm seeing chatter between the onion peels that the US may be trying to stop the Bella the Russians are escorting as we speak. So they may be both calling one another's bluff.

So Alaska borders Russia the way Canada borders NY or Mexico borders Texas. Why is that funny?

Yep, when they started making fun of her I was like " don't they know why the early distant warning line is there?" Hubby asked what that was. I guess it was so close to us in Canada that we learned about it in school.

The closest points between Alaska and Russia are the Diomede Islands in the Bering Strait, specifically between Little Diomede (US) and Big Diomede (Russia), which are only about 2.4 miles (3.8 km) apart, marked by the International Date Line, creating a "Tomorrow Island" (Russia) and "Yesterday Island" (US) time difference. While the narrowest point between mainland Alaska and Russia is around 55 miles across the Strait, the Diomede Islands are the closest landmasses.
