I've used unix-based OSes since I had my first PC.
I've always known that windows was a sinking ship ever since they embraced the tasteless flat design, and now that I see how all proprietary software is exceeding in corruption and greed from their makers, I'm glad that God has kept me safe from all their nonsense.
I pefer to use BSDs over Linux now, and in my opinion, OpenBSD is currently the best operating system in the world; and it's only drawback is that it doesn't have an armored warfare game like WoT or War Thunder availible for it.

Evil! Evil! Stay away from the eeeeeevil!!

Damn, just as a tip from me never use the chown command on an entire drive. I'm lucky it was a new install I did that on. You only make that mistake once while you're learning. It corrupted my OS, and I had to reinstall.

For my next trick, I will use dd but accidentally reverse the /if and /of order.

Been there.

Just stay away from fsck. ;)

Whenever you want to write a disk image to a drive, it's simpler to use
Code:
cat file.img > /dev/drive
than a whole dd command.

Have you heard about the Steam Machine that's supposed to come out next year? It sounds interesting to me, anyway. I can imagine I'll get one.

Nah. I just run Linux Mint with Steam and Proton installed.

Last thing we need is yet another proprietary PC pretending to be a console. That's all the current console generation is anyway, just PCs with extremely limited interfaces. And we need another one named Steam Machine?

For years I've used Ubuntu. It works for most everything. When I need windows, I can install it on my "virtual machine" in Linux.
I call it windows in the matrix. I won't tell windows it's not in the real world if you won't.

@HigherGospel you should do it just because of the license agreement. Something I hate about Mircrosoft, is the fact the company condemn people to prison for 20 years with no less than, 1 Million dollar fines. Mirosoft started and funds the police + judges to convict people of piracy, giving them huge rewards when they do. People have gone to prison for doing things they thought where legal, like running a video game using wine. The judges and police have all kinds of tricks they can use, to convict people.

That's just one of numerous reasons why I'm considering making the move.

The biggest reason is that Microsoft's operating system is not only not secure, they built a back door in to Windows that the gov, your ISP, hackers, etc can use to get in to your computer and see what's the computer is being used for and allows them to access the data on your computer.

This back door started back when Windows 8 came out.

I learned about this from some of the discussion forums where the serious nerds were talking (many of them professionals computer and software guys) who were all saying they are switching to Linux full time and only using Windows sparingly and only for things that just couldn't be done on Linux

That was years ago and since then there's been a lot of growth in software that is now available for Linux so now days there's not much Windows can do that cannot also be done on Linux.

Most people do not realize that MS Windows - the operating system itself - is spyware - and, has been for many years.

And, if you just must have MS Windows for something - the "average normal" for today is that you put it in a virtual environment (running on Linux) so that you can control what it can have access to. (or, what it can "see")

And a lot of people don't know that using anything associated with Google is spyware - and, has been for many years as well.
