No such commandment.... which commandment? Circumcision.. this was the commandment debated about... not the sabbath.
They, the apostles and elders, “gave no such commandment” to the Gentile churches in Asia, to “be circumcised and keep the law.” “The law” is the law of Moses which includes the Sabbath.
This is why you misunderstand things about the law. You include the sabbath when it is non arbitrary. The 10 commandments were clear and non arbitary, they were not disputable. Everyone understood the 10 commandments, but the laws of Moses were being disputed because these laws were given because of sin and were shadows of Christ.
You’re the one who misunderstands things about the law. “The law” in this context is the law of Moses. The law of Moses contained the Ten commandments with the Sabbath and other Sabbath and observances. The Israelites, later the Jews, the apostles and Jesus Christ, did not separate the 10 commandments, with the 7th day Sabbath, from the law of Moses. That was not done until the American woman came around in the 18th/19th centuries
God does not change His character or morals. So these laws were known as unchanging. God's laws.
God does not change His character, morals or laws but His covenants/contracts/agreements differ depending on the parties they are made with. God places His commandments within those covenants/agreements He makes between Himself and other parties. When a covenant/contract/agreement is abolished so are the obligations/commandments within that agreement. God’s nature is still the same, but the agreement He had with that particular party, the children of Israel, no longer exists. God will only relate with men through covenant/agreement/contract. He had covenant with Noah and Abraham, the children of Israel, and presently with the Children of God.
The only law they were disputing about was the law of Moses in its entirety. They were not like SDAs and non-SDAs disputing with each other about which commandments to keep and which ones to discard within the law of Moses. The spies went out to tell the Gentiles in Asia that they had to get circumcised and keep the law, the whole law of Moses. So when they regarded which laws or disputed about which laws, the 10 were not part of the equation.
Circumcision is clearly not needed today.
Acts 15 and the decree was not just about circumcision, it was also about keeping the law of Moses. The decree freed the Gentiles from getting circumcised and keeping the law of Moses (the old covenant that was between God and the Children of Israel). Does that mean the Gentile believers were not under a covenant? No… they were under the New Covenant/agreement/contract made with the Children of God that also contains commandments that are similar to the agreement that was made with the children of Israel. Not lying, stealing, murder, pride, envy, boastfulness are just some of the many, many commandments in the New covenant/agreement made with the Children of God… it’s not the old agreement/covenant made with the children of Israel that contained the 10 commandments
There are clear verses to state this.
Rom 2:28-29
28 For he is not a Jew, which is one outwardly; neither is that circumcision, which is outward in the flesh: 29 But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God.
Rom 2:26 Therefore if the uncircumcision keep the righteousness of the law, shall not his uncircumcision be counted for circumcision?
The feasts and sacrifices were introduced because of sin. They all pointed to Jesus. These laws are not to be kept today because the fulness, Christ has come.
Yes… you’re describing the New agreement/covenant between God and the Children of God. The old agreement that was made with the children of Israel that included the 10 commandments does not apply to the Children of God who are under the New agreement/covenant. Because both agreements old and New, come from the same God, there are some similar commandments. If you’re obeying the commandments in the New covenant that say you can’t lie, murder, or steal it doesn’t mean you’re under the old agreement that had similar commandments within the 10. The 7th day sabbath rest and circumcision are not commanded in the New agreement made with the Children of God…. It was only commanded in the old agreement made with the children of Israel.
The sabbath was given before sin entered and made holy before sin entered.
It was made for man.
Why take it away today?
The Sabbath was created but it wasn’t commanded to be observed until the collection of the manna during the time of Moses. And it was only formally commanded to be observed under the old covenant that was between God and the children of Israel within the land of Canaan. The decree removed any obligation for Gentile converts, who were under the New Covenant, to keep the law, which was the law of Moses made between God and the children of Israel, which included the 7th day Sabbath.
