There is a lot of discussion about faith. I came across this recently and I thought it might help.

"The Hebrew word for faith is emunah (אֱמוּנָה), pronounced "eh-moo-nah". It is closely related to the word amen and implies more than just belief, encompassing active trust, faithfulness, and steadfastness. The word originates from the root verb aman, which means to be firm, steady, or to securely trust. " (Thanks to the "Israel Guys" Youtube channel)

"Active trust" is a key characteristic. James tells us that faith without works is dead. (James 2:20). If we claim to have faith, there will be corresponding works. For example, do we say we trust God with our finances? If so, we will be giving. it may be a little or a lot, but it will not be nothing. Do we need a job? Faith does not mean sitting around waiting for an offer to fall from the sky. When I needed work, I spent hours on job search web sites. God wonderfully provided, but I had to seek in order to find.

We also need to talk about hope. Biblical hope is not wishful thinking. It is something concrete, a promise from God that is not yet realised. As George MacDonald said, "Hope is the mould into which we pour faith". I knew a hippy type decades ago. He used to say things like "Keep the faith" or "peace, baby". There was no substance. Faith in what exactly? There was no substance to it.

We have wonderful hope in Christ. Perhaps we are going through trials. We are promised that God will give us grace to endure and that the trial will end. We also have the promise that God will use the trial to bless us. For sure it does not seem like it at the time. That hope keeps us from despair.

We will receive new bodies one day. Jesus will return, perhaps in our lifetime. And best of all, when we see Jesus, we will be like Him. He who has this hope purifies himself. 1 John 3:2)

Yes, saving faith in Jesus as Lord means commitment to cooperate with His Word/HS.
Amen to Jam. 2:20 & Eph. 2:10! Genuine faith or love for Christ/GW produces godly fruit.
And faith is essentially synonymous with hope of heaven that is confident although not yet attained.

Amen again to realizing that saving faith has substance, which is called the Gospel.
And yes, in the same way we were given grace to repent of sin, seek salvation and find the Gospel of Christ,
God provides the ability for our saving faith to persevere until the end, and perseverance is for the purpose
of becoming new and improved versions of ourselves every day until we become morally like/as loving as Christ.

James writes to those of Israel with an emphasis of works to prove faith perhaps because of their experience being steeped in the law, it was more difficult for a Jew to accept simple faith.

James 2

18 Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.

21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar?

Works demonstrate a persons faith i.e. trust. Abraham took action when He obeyed Christ and was ready to slay his son.

We prove to our Father "we trust" by obeying "every WORD of GOD. Here is what most reject -- the only WORD in the day of Christ was the Old Testament in which is the Torah.

Christ also said If you love ME you will keep/DO my Commandments, Doing requires action, not words.

1Co 13:13 And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.

Gal 5:6 For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision; but faith which worketh by love.

Charity, love in action, works is greater than faith.

And faith works by love.

No love then no faith.

For how can you have faith apply to salvation if you do not have love when faith works by love and love is greater than faith.

1Jn 3:17 But whoso hath this world's good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him?
1Jn 3:18 My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.

John said if a person does not have charity then the love of God does not dwell in them.

Which he said love in action, deeds, for love is only valid if done in works which is why it is called charity.

Jas 2:14 What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him?
Jas 2:15 If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food,
Jas 2:16 And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit?
Jas 2:17 Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.

Jas 2:21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar?
Jas 2:22 Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect?

Jas 2:24 Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only.

Which James goes along with John saying if they do not have charity then their faith is dead.

And said Abraham was justified by works.

And a person is justified by works and not faith alone.

For love is only valid if done in works to care about the needs of people whatever that may be and love is greater than faith.

1Co 13:2 And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing.

And Paul agrees with James and John that he could have all faith so that he could remove mountains but if he did not have charity then he is nothing.

They do not understand Paul and try to carry not saved by works throughout their Christian walk.

But Paul said you have to have charity, works of love, or you are nothing.

Which is the same thing as your faith does not count which he said charity is greater than faith.

All things stem from love including faith.

All things do not stem from faith.

We are saved by faith, and not by works when we first confess Christ for that is all we can do.

And we do not receive the Spirit until after we do that.

But when we receive the Spirit then we have to have works of love to have faith active in our life.

I would agree with this while maybe adding to or modifying some of their words, but "faithfulness" picks up a lot and "steadfastness" is on the right track.

I wish you in advance the best for fending off those who need "faith" to be devoid of such things in order to fit their chosen systematic theologies.

This is from Strong's on Scriptural Faith

Right faith is a thing wrought in us by the Holy Spirit"

Genuine, Scriptural faith is not our ability to ‘count it done,’ but is the deep consciousness divinely imparted to the heart of man that it is done, .

In Scripture, faith and belief are not exactly the same. Faith always comes from God and involves His revelation therefore faith is beyond belief!

Faith is God's work; faith is never the work of people. We cannot produce faith ourselves, nor can we "drum it up at will." Rather, faith comes as Christ speaks His rhçma-word within (see Ro 10:17, Gk text).

In all of Scripture, only the term faith is ever used in the following way: Ro 14:23: Whatever is not of faith (4102/pistis) is sin." Heb 11:6: "And without faith (4102/pistis) it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him" (NASU).

Reflection: Nothing quite like this two-fold witness appears elsewhere in the Bible. These sweeping statements sober the heart and inspire the soul!

The Lord offers to inbirth faith in each scene of life – so that each matters equally in eternity . . . no matter how insignificant they seem (Lk 16:10 with Lk 17:6 and 2 Pet 1:2).

Key quotes
"Faith always pre-supposes revelation" "Faith is always a response to a divine revelation

"Faith precedes works, and is not something merely deduced by reason of existing"

The basis of faith is God's revelation of Himself . . . Christianity came to be seen as a faith event"

"Faith is the divine response, wrought in man, by God"

Faith always has the element of assurance, certainty and confidence . . . and evidential value substantiating the thing we hope for . . . with faith, there is no strain or tension; rather, it has the element of assurance and confidence in it . . . if there is strain or tension . . . trying to persuade yourself to keep from doubting, you can be quite sure that it is not faith

I Say ----Worth Repeating Folks ------

if there is strain or tension . . . trying to persuade yourself to keep from doubting, you can be quite sure that it is not faith

faith is not the law of mathematical probability, . . . faith is not natural .

"Faith is the organ which enables people to see the invisible order

"We have made faith a condition of mind, when it is a divinely imparted grace of the heart .

genuine faith produces works as its inevitable fruit ------

Summary

Faith is the divinely enabled response that receives salvation, sustains the Christian walk, unites the church, overcomes trials, and looks to the consummation of God’s promises. It centers on Jesus Christ, is nourished by Scripture, and proves itself through active obedience until it is transformed into sight at His appearing.

There is a lot of discussion about faith. I came across this recently and I thought it might help.

1 John 3:2)

Faith without works, verses Faith with Works
You show me your faith by your works
I will showy my works through my Faith

Therefore, what Are the works spoken of?

The done work of Son, working though us
Or our own as is what Saul did, who became Paul after the road to Damascus?
Now read Phil 3 throughly and see Paul gave up self works under Law to win Christ
Amazing transformation
Thanks Gideon300 for all the sharing and caring in God's Love and mercy

Faith alone is not sufficient for salvation, on that point scripture is quote clear. The better discussion is does faith cause works? If so are people free to not do works? If they arent how could we be judged for our actions or inactions?

You do not realise that there is a distinction between the experience of being born again and the salvation of the soul. It's a common problem. It's rarely addressed by preachers.

Baptists call it "progressive sanctification." I don't know why. "Salvation of the soul" is found in both Peter and James.

To be born again is instant and irreversible. God causes the believer to be born again. God includes us in Christ, in His death and resurrection and we become new creations. The old passes away and the new comes. What follows this is the second salvation, better described as deliverance.

No one has all spiritual knowledge immediately. So we must grow up.
"Therefore, just as you have received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to walk in Him, rooted and built up in Him, established in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness." Colossians 2: 6 & 7

Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of Christ (Romans 10:17). The Christian life is a faith walk. God does not expect us to live by faith that we do not have. Once we receive the revelation from Him, He expects us to live accordingly. A new Christian may not know that it is essential to forgive those who have wronged us. Once that is made known to him, he is then responsible to forgive. He may not know that we should love our enemies. When that becomes clear, he needs to have a change of attitude.

I know someone who stole from her employer before she was saved. She was convicted that it was wrong to steal. In spite of the risk of prosecution, she made restitution. That is faith with works. That faith is not the faith that saved her in the first place. It is faith that comes from hearing the word of Christ. And showed it to be genuine by her obedience.

No born again believer will be found in hell. However, there are rewards in the Kingdom. God is not unjust. Each person will be rewarded according to his works.

For me, after a long walk off a short pier daily, I sa stop!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Cede, Quit
I asked What am I to stopm, cede and quit?
I heard doing your own work(s) interpretations of me God
I then began to learn new in trust to Father in risen Son.
First it is finished the Law to do, John 19:30, fulfilled as he said he came here to earth to do first Matthew 5:17
Seeing it is true it is finished, under Law, no more being under Law, now upholding Law Explained from Paul in Romans 3 and 7

The new is walking new in God's Spirit and truth John 4:23-24. New life is in the risen Son Jesus for us all to stand in 1 John 2:1-27, Col 1:21-23. At least for me, I cannot speak for others, I just trust in the love and mercy of Son given us all to beleive or not completely. I am complete in the done work of Son given me to stand in from God to love all and not a few as I chose before seeing. being. born again by God
That is it, I can rest Hebrews 4:9-13

Faith alone is not sufficient for salvation, on that point scripture is quote clear. The better discussion is does faith cause works? If so are people free to not do works? If they arent how could we be judged for our actions or inactions?
The position of salvation by faith alone denies that there are any works that we are required to have done first in order to earn our salvation as the result, but it does not deny that there are any content of our gift of salvation involves being a doer of good works. We embody our faith through our works.

No, it is not that we need to add our works in addition to our faith as if faith alone were insufficient but that being a doer of good works is the way to embody our faith. A couple can be alone apart from the company of others while not being alone apart from the company of each other, so some can be alone and not alone at the same time in different senses. The sense that we are saved by faith alone is the sense that there are no works that we are required to have done first in order to earn our salvation as the result. We can’t even earn our salvation even as the result of perfect obedience, so that is not the significance of our works, but rather the significance is that it is the way to have faith.

It is growing up, thank you Hebrews 5:12-Chapter 6 and God reveals to us each as are saved by God to even begin n to see from day on e anyone decides to believe God, Thanks Gideon well written from God through you.

Time to eat meat and let go of milk , woe is me, again I get wha tis said thank you

So people no longer sin when they are born again? Free will ceases once you are born again?

Today it is no longer about sin/ God took away sin through Son's last shed blood sacrifice for us all. What, but I just sinned again, I need more forgiveness
Really? From God? So Son's one time sacrifice was not good enough, it is not done, sin is not taken away in Father's sight for us by Son? And he is not risen where new life is a gift to us. ready to be received from God as the gift to be thankful in?
Yes it is, yet , what if one sins again?
Do I, you need to be forgiven again and again or do I, you remain still forgiven by God, is Sin taken away or not John 1:29 from God? It is finished by Son John 19:30 That got done first for us all being under Law, where no other flesh could ever be perfect, no, not one, but Son Jesus for us all "Done in Son" Either a thank you or I got to do more? It is either done or it is not, read 1 Cor 15

So, God by Son the two as Won (One) for us all to be born new and love all in God's Spirit and Truth, regardless of what others do or not do, includes me. John 19:30, 2 Cor 5:16-22
It is, the love of God that won and wins over evil period. Jesus Won! Was that for us all or for himself, maybe just a few, NOT a few!, Done once for us all, Hebrews 10:10. Since Jesus and Father are perfect, there is/was no need for that sacrifice other than to save us all, (In the resurrected life of Jesus in God Father's Spirit and Truth alone) since God requires perfection to enter, Jesus is the one time sacrifice for all. That does not save anyone, the death. It reconciles all as forgiven first, then new life sets in and grows us up into maturity eating meat over just drinking milk, Hebrews 5:12-6:6.
John 16:33 John 19:30, Satan defeated at the resurrected Son Jesus. Now Father waits in love and mercy to all for all flesh to be put under Son's feet, each willingly worshipping this done work for us all Wow is me!!!!!!!!! those tat see just love all. as God has shown by Son first to us all.

Then one, many, hopefully all will be so busy in the new life of Love, there is no more time for sin again, being too busy worshipping God 24/7 no matter where one anyone might be daily.

Trusting God to reveal all the truth, nothing but the truth that sets people free in love and mercy to all too
