Even though the Bible is the Inspired Holy Word of God it was still written by infallible men capable of sinning and far from perfection in the sense of what we will become in Heaven. So clearly the Bible is not the perfect to come because it's also put together and voted upon by men further from God than those who penned it.

So there's no doubt that the Gifts are still relevant today.
I think you meant to say something like - "Even though the Bible is the Inspired Holy Word of God it was still translated by fallible men capable of sinning and far from perfection in the sense of what we will become in Heaven. So clearly the Bible as most read it, in its many diverse translated forms is not the perfect to come, because they were also put together and voted upon by men further from God than those who penned it.

Yes? A person could think all knowledge has ceased considering the way so many behave today. But do you actually believe all knowledge has passed or vanished away? smh
We have all the knowledge we need in God’s revealed word that has been written, revealed and confirmed (2 Timothy 3:16; Hebrews 4:12; Acts 20:32, 17:11; Ephesians 6:17; 2 Peter 1:3-21; Romans 1:16; Titus 2:11-12). Through knowledge—meaning revelation, which has been preserved in Scripture, is how God is reminding and stirring up through the word. Scripture is God-breathed. The word builds us up and gives an inheritance, and grace teaches us through the gospel message. The word of God is living and active.

A perfect God inspired imperfect men. It's literally impossible for those men to grasp completely what God was showing them. Look at Ezekiel, Daniel, John in Revelation. They sought for meaning and translation but were not given any. So they were left to write at the level they kinda understood.

Nothing has changed at my end. Great list of cessationist men yah got there. I do not believe scripture would refer to what they teach as wisdom anyway, so yeah, has ceased in some cases. :)

When I take a look around at this ole world, I would beg to differ. You may be all pleased with what you think is all wisdom, but those who know better will disagree. Post all the scripture you want. But maybe try to keep things in context.

12 For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

No need to leave out the latter part of that verse. ;)

So, God’s word doesn’t have all the knowledge we need? The Spirit’s sword isn’t sufficient?

Indeed. The word does judge the thoughts and attitudes of the heart, which actually proves my point. For how did you know the word does that?

pinebeach,

Are those men greater than the views from the Church Father's including the views of Calvin, Wesley, and others claiming that the perfect to come is when we see Jesus face to face and this is when the Gifts cease?

By the way, Jesus, Paul, and Peter often quoted parts of verses from the OT, not in its entirety, highlighting the part most relevant to their point or argument. Such as what I did with Hebrews 😉

One doesn’t have to quote an entire passage when what they are quoting from it makes their point.

But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere.
James 3:17

Apparently, God is more than willing to give more of His wisdom. Would certainly help those who think the Bible is all there is. No more wisdom, people not willing to be impartial and or sincere and relegating to themselves all the wisdom there is to be had. How do you think the word judges those things? Do you really believe that the word is alive and active? If you do, then why would that same word be stagnant and inoperative at the same time as cessationists sadly try to portray?

Your life would be changed if you understood that the perfect is certainly not the Bible. The perfect will come when we know even as now we are known. God is Spirit. He wishes to give from Himself to believers, by His Spirit. He is generous and gracious. He sent His only Son so we could come back into relationship with Him. There is nothing frightening about the spiritual gifts. They are given for the building up of the body of Christ which surely, you would want to be a part of?

Let’s say your interpretation of those verses are correct. How did you know that unless you first gained knowledge about them by the word?

There was no New Testament when they did that. Paul, although prolific, did not know (unless God personally revealed it to him) that he was creating a large portion of the NT. And your point is?

Didn’t say they quoted from the New Testament. My point is they didn’t quote the entirety of passages, and if they can when making their point about what they were talking about, then so can I.

Right. Because you have the authority of an OT prophet and the anointing of a NT prophet.
