Even elders may drink, but not to the point of being drunk. I quit for two years after I was saved as I was unable to control my drinking. If I had one, I could not stop until I was nearly incapacitated. I'd been like that for years. I was 21, by the way. I gave up completely for two years. That was a miracle as I was unable to quit prior to being saved.

After two years, I was able to have a glass of wine with a meal. I no longer was compelled to drink. To me, that is victory. I had the liberty to drink and stop as soon as I wanted. Nowadays, I do not drink wine except for communion. I am on heart medications and I believe it's better to avoid alcohol. I don't miss it a bit.

Good for you!! You should always do what’s best, health wise. I’m sure the Lord is very happy that you made that choice.

Ik I’ve heard people say that elders can drink, but in the NKJV, I don’t see it.(?)

Elders:

-"This is a faithful saying: If a man desires the position of a bishop (elder), he desires a good work. A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, temperate, sober-minded, of good behavior, hospitable, able to teach; not given to wine, not violent, not greedy for money, but gentle, not quarrelsome, not covetous; one who rules his own house well, having his children in submission with all reverence"
I Timothy 3:1-4 NKJV

-Not given to wine = doesn’t drink wine

As opposed to Deacons:

“Likewise deacons must be reverent, not double-tongued, not given to much wine, not greedy for money,”
‭‭I Timothy‬ ‭3‬:‭8‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

-In our American vernacular, we would say, Not given to too much wine.”

My guess: They are similar to the Jewish Priests. When on duty, they were to be sober, so they didn’t drink wine until they were off duty. However, the Elders in the church are on duty 24/7. Maybe this is why?

I have a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar and a teaspoon of sour crout juice, with every meal lol.

I can't stand the cabbage so I get rid of it and just keep the juice, it lasts me a couple of weeks 🙂

I also have raw onion and garlic with evert meal to 🙂 normally 1 clove and just half of a small shallot onion. Berries and gut sense kefir yogurt with every meal to

They balance my gut perfectly, there all prebiotics that feed the probiotics in the gut. That helps keep a healthy lining on your stomach and build the probiotics in your gut. Probiotics need to feed other wise they depopulate, so you have to feed them with daily prebiotics

Along with green tea for a drink.

Do you make kefir? It’s super easy! I’ve started making kvass, kefir, and fermented kimchi. All good!!

Wow, Tesco, this brings back the memories! Lol
I used to live in the UK for awhile.

Anyway, kefir is a very easy thing to make. You just need kefir grains, which you can order. I can give you the recipe, if you like?

I was in the Navy when I was first saved. I went to many countries in SE Asia and many different cities in Australia. I was much more of an observer than a participant in the various churches I attended as I was very new in the Lord. I found some Pentecostals to be scary, Baptists to be stuffy (but not in Japan), Lutherans to be verrry traditional and a mix of others that I forget.

I had a few memorable times of fellowship. One was with an Anglican minister and his family. He invited a stranger to his home. There were six others at the table. He had a glass of wine and I did not as I was still teetotal. There was joy and peace in the home that I'd never had anywhere else. I should tell you that before I was saved, I despised the church of England that I was forced to attend as a 11 year old. It was a miracle that my prejudice evaporated as it did.

The wine did not produce the joy. It was the presence of Jesus. He was not offended by a glass of wine. He was pleased that the pastor had invited a stranger into his home, which is even rarer now than back in the 70's.

I'd just buy one quart at the store and multiply it. There's a local brand with 12 cultures. Maybe your town has some available.

For vegetables, I've used the brine method successfully. I've done it with kefir as starter and without. Both worked fine. It just takes longer without.

Maybe you just need to increase the days for fermentation; I find every place is different along with the type of food being fermented. At best, it’s trial and error.

Kefir Recipe:
I tried uploading it, but the file is too big so I’ll just write it out. This recipe is from the Nourishing Traditions cookbook, pg 86.

-2 cups fresh whole milk, preferably raw
-1/2 cup good quality cream (which I actually skipped)
-1 Tbsp kefir grains, or 1 package of kefir powder

-Rinse the kefir grains in a fine strainer.
-The milk should be at room temperature, if not you can warm it up on the burner.
-Fill a clean jar with the milk and kefir grains. Stir it and cover with a clean cloth.
-Stir once a day or so to redistribute the grains.
-Taste it after stirring to test the tartness level. It’s pretty much to your taste.

Cheers!

It’s never about the drinks, it’s always the joy of fellowship with like minded people. Most Christian’s that I’m around don’t believe in drinking, they’re still holding on to a 200 yr old, Protestant, Lutheran, man made tradition. If you are like the noble Bereans, you will recognize God’s word vs man-made traditions. We just don’t talk about this particular tradition. Lol

Still, I’m hoping for a change.

Typical Baptist response, but not true. Try reading what the wine master had to say. I understand because I was a drunk before I was saved. Basically, he said that people serve the best wine first. Then when the guests can no longer tell the difference (because they've had plenty), the cheap wine comes out.

Nowhere in the New Testament does it say that alcohol is inherently evil. It does tell us not to get drunk. Women generally are less tolerant of alcohol than men. I know what I can handle. Those who are born again and know God's word are aware of God's wisdom. Those who have a problem with alcohol, as I did, should abstain completely. I did for two years. If it is not a bondage, then in moderation, there is no problem.

If you want to avoid alcohol, fine. But don't impose your own values on others. Your interpretation of God's word does not hold up. And you have no right to judge the servant of another.

You can drink alcohol as much as you choose and I will not judge you but I will promote temperance. Even a small amount of alcohol affects judgement and coordination.

I want to be ready and watching not affected by alcohol
..sober, so I have 100% awareness.

It is a lust of the flesh. Jesus never had alcohol so I want to follow His example.

Jesus did drink, and so did the Jews; one of His first miracles was making the best wine ever at a wedding. The only one that didn’t drink was John the Baptist.

I'm so glad that you are not judging me. And how do you know that Jesus never drank alcohol? What do you think wine is?

The Holy Word of God said to have temperance and to be sober.
Jesus did not contradict that.
Tit 1:8 But a lover of hospitality, a lover of good men, sober, just, holy, temperate;
Tit 2:2 That the aged men be sober, grave, temperate, sound in faith, in charity, in patience.
1Th 5:6-8 6 Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober. 7 For they that sleep sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the night. 8 But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation.

Gal 5:21-24 21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, 23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. 24 And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.

Jesus did not say a little bit of sin is okay or a little bit won't hurt.

When did He drink alcohol?

Wine can be new or old
Alcohol or fresh grape juice.

Grape juice is juice, wine is wine. When there are so many verses on drunkenness, they’re not talking about grape juice, yes??

Juice is high in sugar and spoils fast, wine is fermented and is beneficial to health. They drank fermented wine throughout history.

You don’t drink high sugar drinks for health benefits! It causes a lot of health problems. The church prohibition is man made, from the last 200 years, or so. Not Scriptural!!

Jesus’ first miracle was turning water into the best wine ever at a wedding in Cana. The master of the wedding praised the hosts for saving the best wine for last; usually it’s the opposite, you serve the best first then once everyone has had a few glasses you bring out the cheaper variety.

That’s fine, if you don’t want to drink. This is your choice. My pet peeve is when people parrot man-made traditions that aren’t Scriptural. I grew up with this tradition and was never like the noble Berean so I blindly followed it.

You can’t lump everyone together and say everyone gets drunk on one sip either. Everybody has different tolerances just like food. Some people can get sick eating certain foods so you don’t flag the food for everyone.

Food and drink are both blessings from God!! Know yourself….
