These are selected passages from the Prophet Jeremiah, Chapter 2.

The word of the Lord came to me: Go and proclaim in the hearing of Jerusalem (The Nation’s Capital):
“This is what the Lord says:
“‘I remember the devotion of your youth,
how as a bride you loved me
and followed me through the wilderness,
through a land not sown.

Israel was holy to the Lord, (The United States)
the firstfruits of his harvest;
all who devoured her were held guilty,
and disaster overtook them,’”
declares the Lord. (The fate of our enemies)

I brought you into a fertile land
to eat its fruit and rich produce. (Our Forefathers)
But you came and defiled my land
and made my inheritance detestable.

Those who deal with the law did not know me;
the leaders rebelled against me. (Our government)
“My people have committed two sins:
They have forsaken me,
the spring of living water,
and have dug their own cisterns
broken cisterns that cannot hold water. (Trust in ourselves)

Lions have roared;
they have growled at him.
They have laid waste his land;
his towns are burned and deserted.

I had planted you like a choice vine
of sound and reliable stock.
How then did you turn against me
into a corrupt, wild vine?

Although you wash yourself with soap
and use an abundance of cleansing powder,
the stain of your guilt is still before me,”
declares the Sovereign Lord.

You will also leave that place
with your hands on your head,
for the Lord has rejected those you trust; (Idols)
you will not be helped by them.

Nothing like taking a text about ancient Israel and making it all about you and your own nation.

I thought it applied to the USA pretty well, except that "our government" and "idols" should be "atheist leaders".

Not sure how Finlandization fits.

Where do you get the idea from that the words from Jeremiah, "Israel was holy to the Lord" apply to the United States, or "all who devoured her were held guilty, and disaster overtook them,’” declares the Lord." refers to the fate of enemies of the United States, or "I brought you into a fertile land to eat its fruit and rich produce." refers to the forefathers of the present United States?

The idea that Israel can apply to the US is based on Romans 2:28-29 combined with most citizens identifying as Christian.
All who attacked the US were defeated until the Korean War.
The US has much fertile land.
Of course, the application is speculation.

Those verses in Romans 2 seem to refer to Christians of all nations. I don't see anything in them that is particularly true of any country as a whole.

First from history, especially from the First Testament itself. This pattern of nations beginning in a covenant relationship with God is repeated multiple timed throughout history. The United States began as a covenant nation. Our enemies were indeed "devoured" (defeated) when they opposed this covenant and we indeed were given a rich fertile land that not only allows us to eat, but to also feed many less favored nations.

Our God is a God of patterns. Days follow patterns, years follow patterns, the moon follows patterns, our lives follow patterns, the results of our behavior follow patterns. This is one of the clearest ways we can know God. When we learn His patterns we learn Him.

With all due love and respect, I do not believe this is speculation. History, nations, and prophets have all followed this pattern throughout history. Recognizing and understanding the patterns God so graciously demonstrates for our benefit is His will, not to be ignored or labeled "old".

This is what 'gets me' about this country. It's always about 'us'.

It's not bout us, it's about God's righteousness.

That doesn't compute. God has but one chosen people and they do not live on this continent. The USA is not God's chosen people. God is not in covenant with the US. Individually of course but that's all. Every promise in the OT is not for every person on earth. That is a conclusion that is not found in scripture but is taught in some circles.

I never claimed we, as a nation, were God's chosen, only that our founders entered into a covenant with Him. And I fear you are correct, we are no longer a covenant nation, we broke it!

I was replying to David Lamb and you posted to me. The US never had a covenant relationship with God. The foounders of this nation were not all Christian even though many think they were. You could possibly so some research on that for your own benefit. I have had enough conversations in times past with people about it and really do not care for another. Thanks

Some people think sin has become an obsolete word.
Even "unto" is obsolete to some. I quote Scripture, so it is not obsolete to me!

Of course some make a habit of redefining words to suit how they have been programmed to think.

Calling something obsolete fits into that modus operandi.

Unto you a child is born.
Towards you a child is given
Hmmmm, something is off but can't put my finger on it.

Isaiah 9:6-7a Unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given, and the government will be upon His shoulders. And He will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of His government and peace there will be no end. Of the increase of His government and peace there will be no end.

I know what Jeremiah wrote about the people of Israel in the OT times….so now you’re projecting onto the US?
In this case, you can project it onto the whole world. :)

However, I think President Trump is doing a pretty good job of turning the country back to the Right (Conservatism). No more of these loony, Leftist, evil ideologies. :)

Give God the glory!!
