Romans 9:16
So then it depends not on human will or exertion, but on God, who has mercy.
:coffee::unsure:

God's mercy has been offered to all!
Not just for the elect.

"For God has bound up all in disobedience,
.that He may show mercy to all." Romans 11:32

That is one more reason why anyone who will be found condemned will be without excuse!

In Christ.... grace and peace.

i am certainly not hyper-calvinist, but i think that extreme position often gets confused with the basic things calvin, and augustine before him, gleaned from the scripture, which upended heresies surrounding the primacy of human will and effort.

the sovereignty of God shouldn't be quickly dismissed, imo - - it is He we depend on, on Whom our salvation hangs, not ourselves

We got to realize back then they were in a phase of getting out of being locked into a darkened cave called the Roman Church.
They were just starting out as babes in theology. Ignorant of many understandings yet to be discovered.

So... presumptions were made that appealed to human reasoning that seemed as a much better option than the cruel RCC thinking.

We need to grow up! As a body we must keep growing and maturing.
Not to be remaining as a child the body once was.

Calvin and Augustine were pioneers discovering new realms of Bible doctrine.
What they were doing was good and noble in attitude.
But, like many who pioneer a way, there were things found that were not yet understood.

grace and peace ..........

did we understand finally in the age of atheistic humanism that man's will is greater than God's?

;)

bro, be careful, God's sovereignty cannot be denied. It is not as tho Augustine was pulling this from thin air; he was studying scripture.

Philippians 2:13
it is God who works in you, both to will and to do for his good pleasure.

Adam freely chose in the garden to eat, but Adam was also created outside the garden and put there by God, with no input from Adam in either case.

we have free agency for which we are fully culpable, but God also has will and no one can question it when He acts.

Let us see what God the Father did before Adam & Eve ate the forbidden fruit.

In the Garden of Eden where Adam & Eve lived. God the Father planted 3 kinds of Trees.
Namely:
1. Tree that is pleasant to the sight and good for food.
2. Tree of Life
3. Tree of knowledge of Good and Evil.
GENESIS 2:7-9
7 And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

8 And the Lord God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed.

9 And out of the ground made the Lord God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil.

Then God the Father said to Adam; it is free to eat the fruits belongs to Trees #1 & #2 but not for Tree #3 plus what will happen when they eat the fruit in Tree #3.
GENESIS 2:16-17
16 And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:

17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

Let us analyze the 3 Trees according to God the Father description (we'll continue in the next post).

With God the Father description to the 3 Trees, let us analyze them one by one.

Tree #1: PLEASANT TO THE SIGHT AND GOOD FOR FOOD.
Pleasant to the sight, can use our senses. It is pertaining to Physical life that involves, Economics, Scientific & Politics.
By eating this fruit means we are allowed by God the Father to make our own Laws, Rules & Regulations. In order we can implement proper discipline. To make our living on earth Abundant, Joyful and Peaceful.
We are free to eat as many as we can to the fruit of Tree #1.
The more and often we eat the better we can get.

No one is denying sovereignty.

I agree that the trees which were described as pleasant to the sight and good for food were permitted by God. However, where in the bible do you find eating fruit linked to making our own laws, or implementing discipline? Where do we read in the bible that the more we eat the better we can get? Indeed, where are we told in the bible exactly which fruit trees these were that were in the Garden of Eden?

Complete fabrication unsupported by the text and contrary to it.

He , being Omniscient, knowing the end from the beginning, being the Alpha and the Omega, didn't plant the tree that would imbue the first humans with his same knowledge? Good and evil, right and wrong?

All things are not according to God's will and plan?

All things are not of him,for him and through him , and to his glory forever?

You're babbling in circles... using buzz words to make it sound like you know what you are talking about.

note that pleasant to the sight and good for food indictates their ability to make both qualitative and quantitative judgements.

they aren't stupid. they know good from not-good and they understand beauty vs ugliness. they are complex and thoughtful, and make informed decisions about abstract, philosophical concepts.

the evidence in scripture is clear that they knew right from wrong before they sinned, consciously exchanging right for wrong.

sin does not embue them with godliness, as Satan claimed, and far too many unlearned go about proclaiming.

this is important.

you did not understand everything you ought to know about Genesis 3 in Sunday school as a child.

i absolutely love it when anyone puts His sovereignty first :love::love:

That's all you got?

Vacuous unbiblical supposition, closing with a juvenile barb?

I accept you're not qualified to discuss this.
Thanks.

Of course there is no direct statement as you are looking for.
We are just analyzing the kind of Trees base on God the Father description.

However, where in the bible do you find eating fruit linked to making our own laws, or implementing discipline?
As God the Father said It is PLEASANT TO THE SIGHT..
It means by eating this fruit, we are allowed to use our senses in making our own laws to implement proper discipline.

Where do we read in the bible that the more we eat the better we can get?
GOOD FOR FOOD.
We are allowed to eat more & often.
The laws, rules & regulations yesterday might not applicable anymore today or tomorrow.
We should not stop and we must continue finding and studying better laws, rules & regulations as the earth keep on evolving.

Indeed, where are we told in the bible exactly which fruit trees these were that were in the Garden of Eden?

If you have the patience to wait, God might reveal it later.
God the Father might reveal, where is the Garden of Eden in our times today as he said in Ecclesiastes.

Read it carefully and humble yourself (surrender to God) while reading.
Or else you never believe it because it contradicts your own intellect.
What was happened to Adam & Eve is still happening today.
ECCLESIASTES 1:9
9 The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun.

By eating the fruit in Tree #1.
We could set up our standard. What is Moral and what is Immoral.

The Tree of Life was in one place and the Tree of Knowledge was in another place. Eve chose the Tree of Knowledge because she was exercising her Free Will and was curious about why the fruit was forbidden.

In approaching the Tree of Knowledg she was wandering farther away from the Tree of Life. She was more interested in thinking for herself than in having God think for her.

But God never took away her mind or her choices. He was informing her about real knowledge, that disobeying His Word would lead to death. She was so enamored by the thought of having self-sufficient knowledge that she stopped believing in God's warning, and ate of the fruit.

The fruit looked like any other. But in doing what God told her not to do she violated the principle of life, and was banned from the Tree of Life.

When we walk through life we are faced with choices every day, to walk in God's Spirit or to act upon our carnal nature. But being infected with Sin to start with there is more of a problem than Adam and Eve faced. By grace we can persevere through our failures and continue to obey God. Life will come to us in the resurrection.

sin does not embue them with godliness, as Satan claimed, and far too many unlearned go about proclaiming.

you did not understand everything you ought to know about Genesis 3 in Sunday school as a child.

Yes, before the experiential knowledge of sin (Gen. 3:7), A&E knew disobeying God was wrong theoretically (per Gen. 2:17).

By eating the fruit in Tree #1.
We could set up our standard. What is Moral and what is Immoral.
So are you saying that by eating fruit from trees that are pleasant to look at and good for food, we obtain the right to set our own standards of morality and immorality? Surely it is God Who sets that standard. Sin is disobedience of His commandments.
