Hey, all.

About two weeks ago, I closed my account on Christian Cupid, having signed up in February. In short, it was a total disaster - people were using false profile pictures, no details on their own pages, and asking me questions they could've learned the answers to from reading my own profile. On top of that, I was getting an abundance of attention from people living in places like Nigeria, Asia, and the UK. Even when I updated my page to kindly say I was not interested in anyone outside of the USA, the same stuff kept happening. Some women asked me for money too, and others wanted a father figure for their kids; it was frustrating beyond reason. So as someone who's been ripped off by that site, allow my own experiences to serve as a warning - try someplace else.

Ya never know what's online.

They are likely all quite similar...
Well, the small place I live in doesn't appear to have any single Christian women my age; I'll be 45 in August. The church I go to is largely divided between two groups: couples 65 and over, or the same who are my age with kids. The main reason that I decided to try online dating was because my pastor met his wife that way, and I have great difficulty understanding social norms in the real world. My autism causes me to overanalyze almost everything, interpret a lot of words and situations very literally, and confusing the true meaning behind many facial expressions. All I know for sure is that I have a great capacity for love, but I've received so little of it in my private life, and I'm quickly becoming fed up with singleness - it feels more like a curse or cosmic joke at this point.

I don't think that you got ripped off by that site, rather, it was the nature of the beast. Some say that Christian Chat is not a dating site, but, in some respect, I beg to differ.

Like Tourist said, I don't think it was the site. I wouldn't blame them. They are a small business and they are there to make money.

Women from other countries are looking for their "American Boaz", their golden ticket to America. At some point, they will bring their family over as well. That's generally how that's supposed to work. Foreign guys are looking for their " Ruth" as well. That's the way it is. Is it always like that?, I hope not!

If your still single in your 50s, I assure you it will feel much different than it compares to how you feel now. Until you meet someone, keep working on who you are and make the improvements where necessary. You want to be someone who has something to offer in a relationship. Have a purpose, hobby, something you do and such. Be somebody who is interesting to be around and to have conversation with. Stuff like that.

I couldn't agree more.

We've all had those rough days of singleness. But really singleness has its unique challenges just like marriage had its unique challenges.

The things I have to remind myself are just because there's no one to date me or who wants to date me that I would find acceptable, that doesn't mean I'm not loved. Getting a pet can help with the desire to have someone to take care of. Or if circumstances don't permit you to have a pet, see anout volunteering with a local animal shelter.

We also have to be honest with ourselves that there just aren't a lot of eligible matches coming through our living room. Now I'm an introverted homebody so half of my not meeting people is just that I don't go many places.

And yeah far too often singles are invisible in churches, and so a lot get discouraged and just quit going. It's a vicious cycle unfortunately. And if I ever find the magic fix, I'll let you (and the rest of the forum) know.
