I pray that they bring plastic straws back to California. I would probably vote for a different governor if they brought plastic straws back to restaurants, convenient stores, and gas stations.

Let’s start let’s die deeper into Philippians 4:19.

Does God say some of these needs will be met in heaven versus here on earth?

I went through a time of watching quite a few documentaries on the state of the Earth... animal kingdom stuff included, protections, ecosystems, lots of very interesting shows, ivory trade, farms for preserving certain endangered species etc, and thought I would take a break from some of the heaviness of it all to watch a doc called A Plastic Ocean. A Plastic Ocean is a 2016 award-winning feature length documentary by a group of dedicated scientists, film-makers, social entrepreneurs, scholars, environmentalists and journalists. It explores the fragile state of our oceans, and uncovers alarming truths about the consequences of our disposable lifestyle. Okay, so I thought I was taking a break from the heaviness of it all, the tragedy that man perpetrates on other species and our environment, but no, I had to pause the film about half-way through to weep at the fate of marine life who are dying left right and centre because they consume plastic products which cannot pass through their digestive tract. Cardboard straws are a bit of a pain but I would rather that than kill birds and fish etc needlessly. Youtube has a highly acclaimed series called Our Planet that I would recommend to any...

Thanks for sharing Magenta. I am a homebody and I do have metal straws that I clean and don’t throw away. It was really convenient for those places to have straws and I do miss my In n Out drinks having straws but haven’t gone there in over a year and when I do go out to get a drink, it is usually Starbucks and I get the adult sippy cup format for my iced tea that I get
there.

So I have adapted. I just will miss the times where the world had straws.

I started going to Starbucks just earlier this year... but I only ever get coffee, and don't need a straw. I think it was bubble tea that we recently got cardboard straws for? Maybe not. Whatever it was it was a definite ugh, but I do understand and agree with the reason behind it. Especially after seeing that movie. Plastic does not break down. In some poor places where garbage goes they burn plastic as fuel for cooking and it gives off toxic gases that then cause disease. There is just no escaping the fact that some of the things invented for our convenience have long term irreversible damaging effects. Like Teflon.

I just pray that we can all move forward with our current predicament and just do the best we can moving forward. A lot of companies are taking carbon zero emissions really serious for almost the past decade and I only assume that more will follow.

I am a fan of Starbucks sippy cups though, as when I was a toddler I’d go everywhere with mine. So as an adult, it is very soothing to me.

I only throw out a small bag of garbage once a week but my recyclables are an even greater amount (tho not disposed of weekly so maybe that's why). They would be a lot less if I did not have a cat, or if she only ate kibble, but dry food is not the best thing for her. I have started to feel bad even about the small amount of garbage I accumulate. I am just one person living in one building in one city in one province in one country that produces a lot of garbage every single week, along with all the other single people in single buildings in single cities in single provinces (or states) in single countries. The mass of it is staggering. They have phased plastic bags out and made recycled bags out of water bottles but still we produce so much garbage! Heh, I never had a sippy cup. Those things just did not exist when I was a baby.

I pray, may God give you wisdom, meekness and humility to accept the things that you cannot change, in the way and likeness of Jesus Christ. Amen.

I was in Old Town San Diego CA a few weeks ago. We ate a couple of times there in a Mexican restaurant and got plastic straws. I also got a plastic straw at a McDonalds about 30 minutes north of Chula Vista CA.
