Well, first of all, I didn't predict that the GOP contender wouldn't be sentenced before the election. That was just a statement that a made today. But I have felt for the last couple of weeks that they've been debating this charging date, that I wouldn't expect it to be before the election.

Sheehy appears to be the beneficiary of Donald Trump's popularity in the state: The former president has a commanding 56% to 41% lead. He won the state by 16 points in 2020 and 21 in 2016.
The Democrats are defending 23 Senate seats in 2024, compared to just 11 for the Republicans. The GOP needs to flip only two seats to wrest control of the upper chamber back from the Democrats.
