Agreed, surely there must be a better way than leaving people with serious mental illnesses on the street.

It's a tough issue. I was reading about the history of the institutions, and the critics. Currently the general standard for involuntary institution is being a danger to others or oneself, which is a very high standard. Per some of the most influential critics finding a lower standard than that... one of determining someone is mentally ill to the level they should be involuntarily instituted is very difficult, and also a scary slippery slope of civil rights.
Very recently, I happened on a radio program discussing the issue of homelessness. Although they only marginally touched upon the issue of mental health, a current solution (toward homelessness) being implemented is housing to which it was commented something along the thought that 'not all stay but there are those who have been helped..." with an implied acknowledgment that those that did stay and therefore were not help were those more mentally unstable. Anyway, I think this might at least be a good starting point, that is, providing 'voluntary' accommodation 'off the street.' This is at the least a mercy toward the general public as much as it is a grace toward the homeless.

Hey Everyone,

For those of you who've been around the forum for a while, you'll know that just about every year, we get threads asking whether it's evil to celebrate Halloween and Christmas.

We hadn't seen any yet this year, but fortunately, someone was kind enough to dig up an old thread just in time!

https://christianchat.com/christian...t-evil-should-christians-celebrate-it.207211/

The general consensus here in Singles seems to go something like this (I just grabbed the first two answers from this old thread -- feel free to peruse the rest there):

And another member kindly reminded us that:

And so, I figured, why not roll all 3 together and knock out 3 of the most cyclical and widely debated subjects on the forum all in one thread!!!

So everyone...

Do YOU think you'll find your soulmate somewhere in between the Zombie Apocalypse and trying to avoid the Christmas Crusades?!

(This thread is just for fun and laughs -- I know lots of people who are struggling today, aside from it being a Monday, so please bless us with your most creative/funny answers if you dare!) :)
Like you mentioned, I can't stand the "scary" halloween ads on tv. Out here the amusement parks always advertise their haunted houses and they get more grotesque every year. Good thing I don't watch much tv.

Meh. I'm like, sure you can have your skeletons and plastic junk and candy out but it all has to go back to into storage on November 1 when it is ALL SAINTS Day

They don't actually scare me. I just find the images disturbing, like seeing victims of a horrible accident or something.

me too, really. I suppose they should though. I think I'd be more disturbed if they didn't.

I've seen worse --- its like people have raided their closets and thrown on a lot of old clothes/pjs having just woke up from the dead in their sleep or been shopping at Walmart/Kmart.

Anyway, who wants to join me in singing Zombie by the Cranberries

Try looking for a solemate, one whose foot is nearly an exact match for yours if you press the two together.

This idea might be welcomed by big-footed single women who are desperate to find husbands.

Oh, and also for men with small feet who really can't find wives.

This could be the basis for a reality TV show, where couples date and may not see each other, just press bare feet together to see if they match with a wall in between, and use that as a criteria for proposing marriage. It could be called 'Sole Mate." My guess is that more couples would be together after five years than on that show where they are matched by 'experts.'

Can't be worse than that show where people guess who their real fathers are. "Who's Your Daddy?"

Make it a date instead of a marriage proposal though. If they get to date the person their feet match, you might have a real show here.

Never heard of the 'Whose your Daddy?' show. Is Mauri Povich the host?
