look how the Father of the idealism behind the Trinity thought about Speaking in Tongues: [remember, this man wrote over 200 Books in his lifetime. most intelligent man]

Tertullian, who lived about the same time as Irenaeus in 160-220 A.D, writes a passage in his book “Against Marcion” which challenges Marcion to produce anything among his followers such as was common among Tertullian’s.

“Let him exhibit prophets such as have spoken, not by human sense but with the Spirit of God, such as have predicted things to come, and have made manifest the secrets of the heart; let him produce a psalm, a vision a prayer, only let it be by the Spirit in a rapture like moment, whenever an interpretation of tongues has occurred to him “

" . . . as for tongues, they will cease;" 1 Corinthians 13:8
that is not the context of 1cor chapter 13, LOL. Sad one out of bias, can't quote the verse as written.

8 Love never fails. But whether there are prophecies, they will fail; whether there are tongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it will vanish away.

None of that has happened yet. As Love continues also.

but actually, reread that Verse, but think of it never going to EVER happen. but the emphasis is so much on how important LOVE is, these other Gifts [[[could disappear]]] and God's LOVE still is more than enough.

so, it does not EVER say these will [actually ever] Cease.

it just says, even if they did, so what, LOVE RULES and is more than enough than all of theses other Gifts!

Sure it does.

1 Cor 13:8 Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.

Love NEVER fails. Tongues, prophesy, and word of knowledge WILL fail, cease, vanish. But they haven't yet.

it doesn't say they did nor does it read that way.

Those who pick a verse out of Context to make it seem what they like, Yet 1cot chapters 12 through 14 are unit chapters, meaning the context of the Gifts of the Holy Spirit is in all three chapters.

Cessationists try to suggest that the colonization of the Bible is that which is perfect has come; therefore, the Gifts of the Holy Spirit are not needed anymore. Out of all three chapters in 1corinthaians 12-14, only three verses they think say that

1cor 13:8-10.

8 Love never fails. But whether there are prophecies, they will fail; whether there are tongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it will vanish away.

9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part. 10 But when that which is perfect has come, then that which is in part will be done away.

They think it is the Bible. Now if you qestion that, they will attack you by saying, "You don't believe the word of God is Perfect?"

Of course, the word of God is perfect, but man's understanding is not.

In most Theologians, church fathers, and commentaries, "that which is Perfect"

Is referencing overwhelming to CHrist coming or Him alone.

The reason for that is because of the context we see in chapter 15 of 1cor.

I believe God can cause anyone He wants to speak in unknown languages, yes.
Where do you get the idea that God "causes" people to speak in tongues? Do you think He forces them? That they can't help it?

But what passes for tongues these days isn't the Biblical gift of languages, it's a cheap imitation known as ecstatic utterances; and no, it's not from God.
Primarily people who think they ceased are the ones who refer to tongues as "ecstatic utterances." The Bible never calls them that.

it doesn't say they did nor does it read that way.
Agreed. I am not a cessationist. I was responding to The_Watchers, who apparently was not finished editing his post when time ran out.

Not interested in arguing with you. You want the gift of speaking in unknown languages so bad you'll buy into an obvious counterfeit; you can't reason with someone like that. So go ahead, enjoy your gibberish.

Just because you were fooled by the counterfeit doesn't mean others were. Why does your bad experience mandate all?

It doesn't. Nor is it our job to make you believe or accept our experience.

ok. But all I did was ask you a question. Does God force people to speak in tongues?

You want the gift of speaking in unknown languages so bad you'll buy into an obvious counterfeit;
Your unbelief and opinion are so strong that you falsely accuse people of all sorts of things, belittling them in an attempt to elevate yourself.

you can't reason with someone like that. So go ahead, enjoy your gibberish.
I will continue to speak in tongues according to my understanding of the Bible.

speaking in tongues is 1 of the 4 most misunderstood subjects in the Bible. the other 3 are remarriage, tithing & women pastoralship. i'm not a pro on the tongue issue but i'll state my comment. i was around it 2 times & it seemed to me like comedic noise! in fact, 1 guy clearly looked like he wanted to be the center of attention as the interpreter. looked like fake news. also, i have never heard anyone anywhere give testimony that tongue speaking was productive for anyone. i don't see it performed anywhere. 1st Corinthians 13:8 says ......whether there be tongues, that shall cease.......". 1st Corinthians 14:9 says, so likewise ye, except ye utter by the tongue words easy to be understood, how shall it be known what is spoken"? 1st Corinthians 14:40 says, "let all things be done decently and in order". God may nave granted people to speak in foreign languages to preach the gospel to the many dialects. then, there is a belief that tongues ceased in about 70 a.d. i listened to a study about tongues with charles stanley & tom durance. they certainly seemed believable. i don't think speaking in tongues is necessary today.

We shouldn't base our knowledge of things on experiences...

also, i have never heard anyone anywhere give testimony that tongue speaking was productive for anyone.
1 Cor 14:4 He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself; but he that prophesieth edifieth the church.

1 Cor 14:5 I would that ye all spake with tongues, but rather that ye prophesied: for greater is he that prophesieth than he that speaketh with tongues, except he interpret, that the church may receive edifying.

When a person speaks in tongues and interprets in the church, the church is edified.

i don't see it performed anywhere.
Have you been everywhere?

1st Corinthians 13:8 says ......whether there be tongues, that shall cease.......".
Yes, but when? "When that which is perfect is come."

1st Corinthians 14:9 says, so likewise ye, except ye utter by the tongue words easy to be understood, how shall it be known what is spoken"?
Paul was addressing the Corinthian church, where people were misusing tongues. Everyone was speaking in tongues at once, nobody was interpreting.

1st Corinthians 14:40 says, "let all things be done decently and in order".
Yes, things should always be done decently and in order. Paul then gave instruction on how tongues are to be used in the church.

God may nave granted people to speak in foreign languages to preach the gospel to the many dialects.
Speaking in tongues is not for preaching the gospel. When a person speaks in tongues, he is speaking TO God (1 Cor 14:2), not about God.

then, there is a belief that tongues ceased in about 70 a.d.
Cessationists believe that.

i listened to a study about tongues with charles stanley & tom durance. they certainly seemed believable. i don't think speaking in tongues is necessary today.
1 Cor 12:7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.

1 Cor 14:5 I would that ye all spake with tongues ....

1 Cor 14:39 Wherefore, brethren, covet to prophesy, and forbid not to speak with tongues.

When in the past I would look at women, I did so with intent in mind.

Today, I feel this sense or emotion of wrong doing.

In fact, whenever I accidentally or deliberately SIN, it is not long before I feel that same way again.

I don't care if I am driving or walking or doing something that needs repairs or even in the middle of a conversation, I in my mind just wants to Repent because I know I did it wrongfully.

I have yet to ever sense that immoral condition attached to intentional SIN to Speaking in Tongues. And I only Speak in Tongues for spiritual warfare. That's part of what God has me do. I am praying against depression, psychological disorder, sickness, even real possession. No entity has ever said you realize Speaking in Tongues is fake so I will just continue possessing this soul.

Those things should be able to jump right directly upon your person if you are in the Wrong according to the Word of God.

we have the SAME HOLY SPIRIT, the KNOWLEDGE is the SAME! how can you call God Triune and claim the Holy Spirit ain't being like the model of God = SAME YESTERDAY, TODAY, and FOREVER! why would God change?
How is this relevant to what I posted? It is God THE HOLY SPIRIT who said through Paul
that prophecies, tongues, and supernatural knowledge would cease (1 Cor 13:8). The reason He said this is because God planned to give us a complete Bible. So why are we not happy and satisfied that we have the written Word of God, and that it contains everything for every Christian (2 Tim 3:16,27), as well as the Gospel (Rom 1:16) for the whole world?

DO YOU BELIEVE IN SPEAKING IN TONG'S FOR TODAY ? AND IF NOT WHY ?
Then, in biblical times, but not now. It served a unique purpose then but has no purpose now or means of enabling its manifestation.

No, the Perfect LOVE, is to Come, Jesus. The Bible is not a Condition of the Heart. it's a Knowledge Source and Instruction Manual. it's a Road map!

the entire Chapter [13] is ALL about LOVE, and then Paul talks about the PERFECT LOVE is Coming, and you go off the map all rogue thinking it's a Bible?

have we ever seen the Perfect Love yet?

NO, we've only READ about IT!

Reading is Partial Knowledge of the Perfect Love.
when we see Jesus, we will see the Perfect Love, and will see with FULL COMPLETE KNOWLEDGE!

I spent 20 years in the Pentecostal Movement. 7 years as a Pastor.
I was a tongues speaker.
I left the Movement in disgust as the Leadership that was corrupt.
In my re-evaluating my experience I learnt this from the Bible.

1. Speaking in tongues in the New Testament times were human languages.
2. They were edification in a Church meeting setting only. No private tongues.
3. Not every believer spoke in tongues. 1 Cor 12:30.
4. Tongues ceased fairly early on in the first century. No mention of them
in the later books of the New Testament.
From my findings, I renounced my 'tongue's as false and have not looked back since.
