yes, we do as The word "Repent" means just that stop and go the other direction.
It means of change of mind towards something different.

So we repent of dead works and turn towards Christ.

We repent of trying to earn heaven towards the one who achieved the perfect offering, Christ Jesus

[1] Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God, [2] Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment.

If you preach stop sinning in order to receive Christ you preach a false Gospel. Full stop.

You need to learn what Repentance means Biblically and contextually. A mind change can't happen until the heart is. Therefore if your heart desires to be transgender, your mind has not been changed, nor has your heart been regenerated by the word of God. You can be baptized and have hands laid on you, but if you have not surrendered and repented and turned away from the sin that once bound you you are not right with God.

Judas was baptized, judas performed miracles, Judas had hands laid on him by Jesus, and guess what? The devil entered him.

you are trying to create a false narrative I am not preaching "Stop sinning" to receive Christ I am saying the word God shows us those who come to Christ no longer identify with the sin they were saved from.

Meaning a homosexual is no longer homosexual when Jesus saves them. Tey are new in Christ. They turn from that mindset, and life style to one of obedience and service to Christ.

I know what it means.

The Gospel is:

1) No one can earn heaven because no is perfect which is what God requires.
2) Jesus is perfect, therefore He was the perfect sacrifice, He fulfilled the law and did not sin
3) We repent of our dead works trying to earn heaven and turn our mind/hearts toward Christ Jesus and accept his free gift of salvation by grace through faith.
4) God declares us righteous/justified.
5) We should be discipled to learn to live in the victory over sin, this is accomplished by drinking the living water, leaning into grace

This is true for all transgender, the liar the theif or the adulterer or any other habitual sin.

Turn from sin means to stop sinning generally speaking if you mean something else then best not to use that phrase.

I know this phrase well, the street preachers when they were around used it all the time and they were clear what they meant.
You can cry your heart out every night over your sin in repentance but until you accept the free gift of salvation you are not born again.

Yes this is after they are born again, but we do not turn from our sin to be saved. This sets people up for failure over and over again, it is not the full Gospel.

There is a sacrifice/gift/ payment of debt that must be accepted on one's behalf.

one must come to the understanding they are sinners and need to be forgiven. That happens when the Holy Spirit enables a person to see their need for Christ. When they come to Jesus, they are born again right then and are to turn from the life style that was sinful and follow the lord. Therefore they are no longer LGBTQ. They identify with Christ. AS with the murderer, drunkard fornicator etc.. ,

yet meaning we come to Christ as we are but not after we are saved.
Well I did not know you followed the Calvinist view of salvation.

God can release people from the ties that bind but not everyone lives in victory the flesh/Satan/worldly influence is always present.

My problem with some on this thread is they make light of sin and neither do they understand the victory that is available in Christ and they default down to "we are all sinners."

God can and does break the bondage of sin and yes we need to teach this and hopefully the person will want the freedom more than they want the bondage.

I have worked in addictions and have witnessed this many times, learning to live as a sanctified person is not automatic for all people like the Loadship/Calvinist like to contend.

That's my view and I am sticking with it!! :)

I'm not a Calvinist. If you think that you are grasping at straw.

Jesus is the Savior and HE has come to set us free from the bondage of SIN. AS our Lord He takes resident in our heart and renews our mind by the Word of God. So that we do not do what we use to in the flesh but have victory in Christ over the flesh because Jesus is our way to a life of freedom.

Yes well you missed my point, my point being this is what "should" happen and not what "will" (Calvinist view) always happen.
The battle rages until we die, some fail, some do not, some fail for a short time, some fail for a long time, that is reality.

He saves us FROM our sin, not IN our sin.
blessings
So you do not believe salvation is a free gift to those who believe on Christ Jesus.
Ephesians 2: 8-9

Then you deny the clear teachings of scripture.

Turning from sin is works salvation and we are not saved by our works, the only condition is belief on Christ Jesus and His work.

Being your usual passive-aggresive self I see and do not even defend or elaborate on your position.

To receive the gift you have to open your hands to receive it.

But if your hands are clutching sin, there is no room to receive the gift of salvation.

You have to let go of and drop sin therefore in order to receive salvation.

So we must have behaviour change before we can receive salvation.
That is not the Gospel.
If repentance means “stop sinning,” then no one has ever repented.
There is only one condition that is faith in Christ Jesus to receive the gift of salvation.
It is about receiving the forgiveness that is available not promising to change to receive the forgiveness.

Repentance means to turn away from the direction of sin.

Jesus told us that the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak.

I would say that as long as we are seeking first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, we are walking in true repentance; even if we fail to be perfect at times.

To believe in Jesus means to turn from sin.

That is what the ministry of John the Baptist was all about. He came as a forerunner of Christ and he definitely preached repentance and that the axe was laid to the root of the trees; and that every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and cast into the fire. Jesus also said that a good tree is not a bad tree and cannot bear bad fruit; while a bad tree is not a good tree and cannot bear good fruit.

So, those who have genuinely placed their faith in Christ are good trees that bear good fruit, in keeping with repentance, as was spoken by John.

It is written, in Matthew 1:21, that Jesus came "to save His people from their sins"

And yes, both John and Jesus, in their preaching, said primarily, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand."

Paul also told us (in 2 Corinthians 7:10) that godly sorrow leads to repentance; which is unto salvation.
