@massager
Since I asked this question in the public thread that you started, I would much rather discuss it here within the thread and not in the private message that you sent after my above reply/question.
The members here love Jesus too, and enjoy talking about scripture.
We can have "bible talk" here in the thread with others.
:)

So, I'll ask again:
What verses of scripture are you basing your 12 points from?

All of the listed good practices are indeed supported in scripture. This is a good and simple reminder. So thumbs up to ya.

All of these are good practices and I would add fasting to the list. Several I had never identified as disciplines but simply the natural outworking of a relationship with God.
I would also add that the purpose of spiritual disciplines is not the accomplishment of spiritual activity, but real encounter with God. It is in His presence that we are changed from glory to glory.

#1 should probably be #12, and #4 should be #1.

I'm not sure what "inner music" means. And I'm also not confessing to others my deepest, dark secrets. I release the shame to Jesus.

Spiritual Discipline----In a Nut Shell ------ is training yourself in Godliness -----

1 Timothy 4:7

Amplified Bible, Classic Edition

7 But refuse and avoid irreverent legends (profane and impure and godless fictions, mere grandmothers’ tales) and silly myths, and express your disapproval of them.

Train yourself toward godliness (piety), [keeping yourself spiritually fit].

I say -----Devote yourself to God and a life that Glorifies and pleases Him

I think the 119th psalm and the fifth chapter of Matthews gives all of these disciplines.

I think it is interesting that 119th psalms mentions meditation many times. The secular world gave meditation a bad name with their bad instructions, but doctors in the secular world know there are marvelous benefits gained by it, they just don't understand what those benefits are.

The 119th psalm addresses the problem of the Christian needing to manage their enemies, both from humans who treat others with judgments and criticism so it is hard to see themselves as created by God, belonging to God, and completely forgiven by the Lord.

The fifth chapter of Matthews explains how Christ completed the law, so the law of Moses that was given in earthly terms is given in spirit, and is of the spirit of God. The chapter explains how we are to live with Christ within.

Thanks some of these.. well not sure but could have left out numbering. Praying in the spirit (yeah tongues) always, prayer. Not some thing we should be doing 5-30 min a day but "praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saint"

Is that the way you talk to the God of all? No reverence?
Notice also, humility is one of the listed. Please read the rntire post and apply normal reading comprehension skills, rather than troll people.

Its not about disciplining the Holy Spirit. It is about the self discipline inclined toward the spiritual, i think you are over thinking this. The ideas is that being inclined toward the spirit is against our flesh, so we discipline our flesh to obey the spirit by certain disciplines.
Hope that Helps.

The only visible scripture I can find that makes any reference
1 Corinthians 2.14
The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit.

Which implies it is only the holy spirit that diserns the spiritual for us.
