Sharia Law indoctrination can be argued for when public school kids are told to take a Muslim name, and basically practice to be a Muslim. Imagine the stroke the ACLU would have if a public school authorized their students to practice what it means to be a Christian.
I know this is off-topic, but it just came to me when reading this post.
There is an historical fact many believers are not aware of: The founders wanted the Bible taught in public schools. Thomas Jefferson got Bibles to the Indian tribes. When they had public prayers, it was to the God of the Bible, not a generic blend of the world's religions, and it certainly was not a Wiccan prayer. They wanted the US founded on Christian principles and a generally Biblical world view.
Why?
Because they saw this as the best generator -- and preserver -- of liberty. People fearing hell-fire judgment are more likely to police themselves, negating the need for a police state.
They didn't like what they saw in other religions around the world. They believed Christianity was a vital foundation for the country. Sorry atheists out there, that is an historical fact, and if you need it, I can prove it -- with their own words.
Now, does this mean that someone who decided to practice Judaism or Islam or Daoism would not be permitted to do so? No it does not. The founders believed in freedom. But, they did want the majority of the country Christian-influenced. That, though, only comes through teaching and convincing the public of the soundness of that, since we are about free will here. And, that is obviously where we have failed.

When George Bush pushed "No Child Left Behind" it was a power grab to take control of education in this country. I was shocked that no one called him on it, pointing out that as President he has no authority to be "the education president".
No child left behind sounds good but as usual they give a terrible thing a great name. What it really should be called is "No Child gets ahead". They required schools to follow their rules or else they don't get any government funds. Then they put really great rules out but didn't provide any money to pay for it. As a result we had a whole bunch of kids incapable of being in a general ed class dumped into general ed without the extra support they needed. In the suburbs they had much bigger budgets so they could handle these rules. As a result the inner city was like making you run a three legged race while the kids in the suburbs don't have that restriction.
