Saddleback church had been on the "outs" with the SBC for some time. For all their millions of dollars they get annually they don't stroke a check for the cooperative program or any missions fund. But they want to tell the SBC what to do and how.
And they started as beneficiaries of the cooperative program.
Women pastors are a SIGN...not a sin. Which is why Paul didn't allow a woman pastor. And the SBC doesn't really care. There's plenty of reasons to remove Saddleback from the member roles. None of which have to do with female leadership. It may be a final straw...especially when the church at Saddleback condones homosexuality. And the SBC does not.

The pastor is a young preacher in the video that started services in his living room. I don't know what particular building that church is in there, but it has no affiliation with WB, nor is it in their basement. . It might not have crystal chandeliers and stained glass, but that's because they spend the bulk of their money on outreach....leading others to Christ on mission trips and Indian tribes.
They give away all the Bibles and expensive documentaries that their members have made and refuse to sell anything.
I have never attended it, but From what I understand, their attendance fluctuates between the 300s to 400s now, but is not of the mega church philosophy. Over 100 members go out to win souls house to house on a weekly basis. They are Independent Baptists, which are not a part of any denomination or fellowship/ convention.
Oh, I didn't know that Saddleback condoned homosexuality! I looked up articles about that and it's true. That is WILD. And it wasn't just Saddleback, but also Andy Stanley condones it too, Charles Stanley's son! I love Dr. Charles Stanley! Does he also condone homosexuality as well (please God, I hope not!)?

Oh that's great! I listened to his sermon and it didn't bother me at all. His message was spot on. I like that fact that he puts the tithes into furthering the Lord's kingdom.
The shaming tactics that the rainbow crowd uses doesn't really work if Christians put God's will and ways first and foremost. It's a shame that Rick Warren and Andy Stanley showed how weak they really are by putting ungodly people's wicked desires ahead of God's will and ways.

Sure. I accept Joyce Meyer as a God-appointed teacher. However, she does not run a church, she submits to her husband and she teaches women to do likewise. She is not a pastor or an elder and does not aspire to be one.
Yeah....there's a LOT about Saddleback that people don't really know about. But a lot of churches wanted to copy their style of doing things. Some of which are really nice and very welcoming to strangers looking to possibly join a church and make it part of their lives.
The "Purpose Driven Life" book had a great opening paragraph....and if he had stopped there it would have been great.
But he didn't....and the subsequent books really got bad as well as the teaching materials. Such as ignoring about ⅔ of the Bible because they are "Controversial".
Things like this don't set well with most Baptist. One of the things about the SBC is the Sunday School literature. (Small group) Which takes you through the entire Bible depending upon which set you get....some sets do it in 7 years, some 9 and the third 13.
And Saddleback had an issue with that.
The President of the SBC power ends at the gavel at the next convention meeting. (Really, I'm not kidding....that's all he gets to do is bang the gavel to call the convention to order)
Everything inside the SBC is done by committee and voting with half of the committee members being brand new to their roles. Which means that possibly ⅕ actually know what the job actually is or what they should do at any given time. The lawyers retained by the SBC know more....and they don't like talking.
The IMB (international missions board) Chairperson has some power as he controls the purse strings....kinda. the committee actually holds the power. And last I heard they were recalling missionaries because they were short on money.
That's the SBC....and since Lifeway has been spun off....it isn't as good as it once was. Lightweight lessons and very basic information. A few are decent....but then they don't do them like they used to either.
Have you read her testimony for when she got called before congress for fleecing the flock?
She has one of the largest collections of fine antique furniture.
Just saying....most of her books are ghost written....she slaps her name on them as viola....another best seller. She quit "writing" so much after Congress started putting the heat to her feet....and her board of directors are all family members living on their compound in high high dollar mansions.

Those two men lead a lot of other pastors, so it makes a big impact on so many more Christians. I was very disappointed with Andy Stanley too. His leadership has led a mega church movement from his Dad's SBC. If he'd take a stand, he'd lose some following, but gain much too. Anyhow, we are to be pleasers of God first and the Lord will build and add to the churches.
Joyce Meyer has a much bigger problem than submitting to her husband. She should try submitting to God first.

The congress found that there was no wrong doing by her organization, but I thought the commode's price was a bit much.
So if there were no findings of wrongdoing, I'm not going to crucify her for that. It was interesting though so thanks for giving me something to investigate.
She does make a lot of money from her books, shows, etc. but I feel more of it could have gone into spreading the gospel and helping the poor and orphans, etc.
I couldn't find anything about her having her books ghost-written for her, but I haven't really read anything from her to begin with.
She seems like a nice enough woman and since I don't really watch her or read her books, she doesn't influence me.
If she really IS a false teacher, God will protect His own, but right now I don't have an opinion about her either way. I personally get uncomfortable when I hear other people say bad things about other people. I KNOW people who warn others are just trying to protect the rest of us from false teachers though. I just don't want to hate her.
You should be very careful when you attack one of God's people. Having a differing point of view is one thing, personal and slanderous attacks entirely another. It's between Joyce Meyer and God how she spends her money. No one is forced to give to her or buy her books. I've not donated myself. My wife has received a lot of help from Joyce Meyer's ministry and she gives from time to time. I have no issue with that.
........."over a man". Titus 2:4 says that mature women should be teaching the younger women. Taking one verse out of context is not helpful. So yes, women can be teachers.

That’s a great idea… when the verses aren’t controversial. This is one of the most controversial in the NT. It isn’t rocket science but it is a verse that needs more than a basic once-over.
