Nope. You either have the trust or you do not. It may wax and wane......but you have it.

Looks at Peters vacillating and denials. Yet.....he never "changed gods". Same goes for Abraham.

Jhn 6:68
But Simon Peter answered Him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life."

Pretty much sums up the state of mind of the redeemed.
Do you believe Peter REPENTED of what he did or just thought God will save me so why waste the time?

As usual, no one wants to address the question directly and have quietly changed the subject. No one can know if someone is trying to earn salvation unless they tell you this directly. How can they?

But who is more secure in their Salvation:

The one who prays daily for God to help them overcome a specific Sin they struggle with

Or

The one who continually sins the one sin they specifically struggle with and tells themselves it's cool because I asked for forgiveness of all sins 20 years ago when I got Saved?
Salvation is a gift.
The gift is received.
The depth of our sorrow and the promises to stop sinning makes salvation a bi-lateral contract, it is not.

The security is solely based on Jesus and His work on our behalf, we accept His work as a gift, it cannot be revoked or undone.

How precious is that Gift to you if you abuse it?

Pretty sure Jesus is taking care of that too bro.
I really think THIS is the point that may sway some on the "you can lose your salvation" side.

Are you trusting in JESUS to keep you saved, or are you trusting in YOUR ABILITY to trust to keep you saved.

That's what this debate bolls down at it's essence.

As the redoubtable J. Vernon McGee said so eloquently:
Thats an "iffy" question.
True!

But there's still a point where we know we are Saved and we also know it hurts God to keep sinning which is why we continually seek forgiveness.

So you're in the camp that says once we're saved, we no longer have to trust in Him.
Trust Him for what exactly?

Are you saying that His one time gift of salvation is not sufficient to save. Is there some sin that has not been paid for in full, did He not conquer death?

You trust Him for salvation, that IS what He offers, paid in full.

He offers nothing less, so what have you trusted Him for?

>>> eternal life, redemption, justification, sanctification, adoption and eventually glorification>>> this what He offers.

Everything about my Salvation was bought and paid for by God.

But I understand the Value of my Gift which is why I strive to be more like Christ.

But when I fail I don't believe I am lost, I believe I have hurt God and for that I repent.

But I know some who assume they are so secure they sin freely without remorse. They abuse the Gift from God. I don't see how they can be secure when they have no value in what God did for them.

It is really sad that people cannot just be thankful

There is always that need to add in some righteousness of their own, isn't that what you are basically saying?

One strives to live out ward the righteousness of Christ gifted to the believer, that is sanctification.

We have a new nature. Focussing on the NEW helps diminish the old.

It is hypocritical to not LIVE IN the Victory, that is the real sin.

No, because you either realize what God did for you and you live in harmony or you think I can get away with murder.

Which when we habitually sin, we are murdering Jesus on the Cross over and over again.

Is living in Victory being more like Jesus who is SINLESS or more like I'm saved so I can do whatever I please?

New American Standard Bible
21And although you were previously alienated and hostile in attitude, engaged in evil deeds, 22yet He has now reconciled you in His body of flesh through death, in order to present you before Him holy and blameless and beyond reproach— 23if indeed you continue in [ae]the faith firmly established and steadfast, and not shifting from the hope of the gospel that you have heard, which was proclaimed in all creation under heaven, and of which I, Paul, [af]was made a [ag]minister.

Nope, not a one and done situation.
