Psalm 105

1 O give thanks unto the LORD; call upon his name: make known his deeds among the people.

2 Sing unto him, sing psalms unto him: talk ye of all his wondrous works.

3 Glory ye in his holy name: let the heart of them rejoice that seek the LORD.

4 Seek the LORD, and his strength: seek his face evermore.

5 Remember his marvellous works that he hath done; his wonders, and the judgments of his mouth;

6 O ye seed of Abraham his servant, ye children of Jacob his chosen.

7 He [is] the LORD our God: his judgments [are] in all the earth.

8 He hath remembered his covenant for ever, the word [which] he commanded to a thousand generations.

9 Which [covenant] he made with Abraham, and his oath unto Isaac;

10 And confirmed the same unto Jacob for a law, [and] to Israel [for] an everlasting covenant:

11 Saying, Unto thee will I give the land of Canaan, the lot of your inheritance:

12 When they were [but] a few men in number; yea, very few, and strangers in it.

13 When they went from one nation to another, from [one] kingdom to another people;

14 He suffered no man to do them wrong: yea, he reproved kings for their sakes;

15 [Saying], Touch not mine anointed, and do my prophets no harm.

16 Moreover he called for a famine upon the land: he brake the whole staff of bread.

17 He sent a man before them, [even] Joseph, [who] was sold for a servant:

18 Whose feet they hurt with fetters: he was laid in iron:

19 Until the time that his word came: the word of the LORD tried him.

20 The king sent and loosed him; [even] the ruler of the people, and let him go free.

Yes and no.
They are in that, they are God's living word to his people, and a reality for the believer through out the ages, and a beautiful model of prayer.

I dont place any more or less significance on any one scripture passage.
“I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee. Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, And the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession.

Serve the LORD with fear, And rejoice with trembling. Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, When his wrath is kindled but a little.

Blessed are all they that put their trust in him.”
‭‭Psalm‬ ‭2:7-8, 11-12‬ ‭KJV‬‬

My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?

All they that see me laugh me to scorn: They shoot out the lip, they shake the head, saying, He trusted on the LORD that he would deliver him: Let him deliver him, seeing he delighted in him.

My strength is dried up like a potsherd; And my tongue cleaveth to my jaws; And thou hast brought me into the dust of death.

For dogs have compassed me: The assembly of the wicked have inclosed me: They pierced my hands and my feet.

I may tell all my bones: They look and stare upon me. They part my garments among them, And cast lots upon my vesture.”
‭‭Psalm‬ ‭22:1, 7-8, 14-18‬ ‭KJV‬‬

The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He restoreth my soul: He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; Thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: Thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: And I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.”
‭‭Psalm‬ ‭23:1, 3-6‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.”
‭‭John‬ ‭5:39‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms,

concerning me.”
‭‭Luke‬ ‭24:44‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“For David speaketh concerning him, I foresaw the Lord always before my face, For he is on my right hand, that I should not be moved: Therefore did my heart rejoice, and my tongue was glad;

“Moreover also my flesh shall rest in hope: Because thou wilt not leave my soul in hell, Neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption. Thou hast made known to me the ways of life; Thou shalt make me full of joy with thy countenance. “

Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on his throne; he seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption. This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses. Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear.

For David is not ascended into the heavens: but he saith himself, The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, Until I make thy foes thy footstool. Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ.”
‭‭Acts‬ ‭2:25-28, 30-36‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“I have set the LORD always before me: Because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved. Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoiceth: My flesh also shall rest in hope. For thou wilt not leave my soul in hell; Neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption. Thou wilt shew me the path of life: In thy presence is fulness of joy; At thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.”
‭‭Psalm‬ ‭16:8-11‬ ‭KJV‬‬

The psalms are about Jesus and the gospel

“But those things, which God before had shewed by the mouth of all his prophets, that Christ should suffer, he hath so fulfilled.”
‭‭Acts‬ ‭3:18‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Is your preferred translation that you used for this or was that tourist inspired selection. I like the easy reading of the NLT. On artwork it probably doesn't make much difference for understanding the verse. Except maybe for KJV. Have you ever heard of Rabbi David Kimhi?

Started reading Alexander McCaul 'analysis' of Kimhi commentary on book of Zechariah. Some very unusual info. Ever hear of the 'angel' Metatron or Raziel? References to Kaballah and Chizzuk Emanuah. Chizzuk Emanuah is strengthening faith. Kimhi's work was referred to by KJV translators.

Kimhi was supported by wealthy Portuguese Yahya (David) the negro. Yahya claims heritage traceable to King David. I remember when Haile Selassie - Wikipedia claimed heritage to Solomon. Just now reading interesting article about Yisraelites>>>>link may not be secure>>Black Politico Media: Is the Hebrew Yisraelite Movement in North America Turning Black Voters Away From the Two-Party System? This is part of reason the administration traded for Brittney Griner more than likely.

I follow this stuff since about a year ago I started following and discussing with teacher at House of Jacob near me.>>>>>>>https://www.bing.com/ck/a?!&&p=ee5e...1aHR0cHM6Ly90aGVob3VzZW9mamFjb2Iub3JnLw&ntb=1>>>Since started reading the Bible all this study is tiring. Hey Pilgrimshope, hope arthur is ok. Right there, Psalm 40:7, Genesis to Revelation which was yet to be written, all is about Jesus. And quite certain Jesus gave the work of inspiring every writer to the Holy Spirit. Were any other of God's servants involved? I don't know. In some reading I am doing, see post #144, there is some interesting info to sort out. Maybe I find more on this topic.

Around 1975 in the library of Pasadena City College I was reading through the prefaces of some Bibles and surprised to see J.R.R. Tolkien listed as a translator in one. Don't recall if that Bible or another the preface said, paraphrase, "Read the Bible and find there what it says to you". Well, about 40 years later I finally started doing just that.

I think Alcoholics Anonymous picked up on that advice too. In the book they use it states a somewhat similar sentiment, "We think that this book will appeal to those who need it". Paraphrase also here. Both seem correct and both lack this advice that some 'guide' is needed. And both books do contain where and how to find the 'guide'. But that means the books must be read. Can't just read the preface.

There is more to this but I am tired.

Psalms 40:7 Then said I, Lo, I come: in the volume of the book it is written of me,

Good morning, persistent :D I often use the Berean Study Bible as my source for the verses used in my panels, though sometimes NIV, and less often, KJV. I used to not care much for the NLT until one of my church elders (not officially ;)) explained some of their word choice reasons (I suppose it has to do with the type of interpretive method, though I do not recall all the details now), and that did soften my attitude toward it somewhat, but not enough to use it is a source. Partners in Hope Recovery Society does use that translation a lot :)

I am not big on commentaries :unsure::giggle: Though I have heard of Metatron and Raziel... Metatron moreso.

“Hey Pilgrimshope, hope arthur is ok. Right there, Psalm 40:7, Genesis to Revelation which was yet to be written, all is about Jesus.”

yes he is the main subject of scripture but a lot of the Bible is about man making huge mistakes and ruining what he gave to them so that we who learn from it don’t repeat it

airs definately focused on Jesus from genesis 1:1

But then enter into the equation mankind whos given dominion and authority over all earth

then Enter the dragon that ole serpent they call the devil

( used to be a Bruce lee fan for a time )

but alot of the Bible is about what man did wrong to make it so we die and need salvation

alot of the Bible also is about men like Abraham and his relationship with Jesus , or Noah , or cain , absolem , Peter , Judas , Paul , ect

also the nation of Israel alot of the ot is about thier rebellion against Gods kindness towards them and resistance to his corrections of them and lack of fear towards what he’s warned them about

there’s a pretty comprehensive story in the Bible lots of characters Jesus and the gospel the main design , mankind an unwitting accomplis to earths demise , a crafty serpent who’s deceptive and cunning in his interpretation of what God said

tribe of carnal folk who simply refuse to be blessed by God for generations many wicked nations and kings became relevant characters in the true story of mankind’s relationship with God

The Bible is a lot more interesting than many realize and alot more valuable if we look at it as “ how can I learn , from what I’m hearing in the scriptures ?”

I think you told me that before about the NLT and I forgot. That name Metatron really gets me. Sounds like some early or mid twentieth century sci-fi writer would make up. I already forgot who McCaul attributed that to. Likely not Kimhi. Raziel was an angel noted in a book of magic, (grimoire). Fantastic stuff that people would dream up. Wondering if these ideas were based in 'reality'. Guess I better not bore you or waste your time with this 'crazy' stuff. I actually find it useful for certain persons I deal with now and in the past I see a connection. Certain people I have known were very superstitious and possibly influenced by some derivatives of these sources.

I'm bringing up this thread because there was a discussion about David on another topic and i didn't want to clutter that topic with something which deserves its own topic.
Some of the participants were @Cameron143 and @Magenta.

If you see my past comments on this topic about David, they can be summarized as this:
This man does not inspire me, but i respect him because he is part of God's plan for some reason. I don't know why, but i just trust God so by default i respect this man who really pushes me away from God with his mindset.
I also respect other important people who are part of God's plan such as Saints, Apostilles or Jesus' mother.
It's just that for some of us we have different preferences as who we like or we dislike in the Bible but we have to accept them and respect them as God's plan.
In order for most of you here to understand this who are mostly Protestant, the way i feel about David is the same way you feel when the Catholics pray to St. Mary for salvation.
That's how i feel about David! So, with that in mind try to understand people's inspirations or discouragement from an individual in the Bible.

Cameron did a great job saying this in another way:
David being a man after God's own heart does not mean as you suppose. It doesn't mean that David was full of characteristics of God. While he did have some of those, he was, in most ways, no better than anyone else in his time. In fact, in many ways, he was far worse.
So what is meant when God says David is a man after God's own heart? Saul was the king the people chose. They looked upon the outside and Saul was indeed an impressive physical specimen. But God, when He chooses, picks those who are weak and unimpressive, and even despised in order that what He performs will be ascribed to Him. Thus, the phrase...after God's own heart...simply means one who is God's choice or after the manner in which God chooses.
