When Jesus developed the plan of salvation, what was the enemy?
what do we need salvation from? what has taken us captive?
SIN
sin results in death, death is seperation from God.
What is Sin?
1Jn 3:4 Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.
Rom_7:7 What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid. Nay, I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet.
Rom_7:8 But sin, taking occasion by the commandment, wrought in me all manner of concupiscence. For without the law sin was dead.
1Co_15:56 The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law.
So the plan of Salvation from the begining of the world was to save us from sin. To save us from lawlessness.
Rom 5:18 Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life.
Rom 5:19 For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.
Notice. obediance = rightousness, and disobediance = sinners.
If the solution to this problem was to remove sin, there were 3 ways that God could have done it.
1st way was to destroy all sinners by death (eternal death), which would be just and correct on God part, because the wages of sin is death.
Rom 6:20 For when ye were the servants of sin, ye were free from righteousness.
Rom 6:21 What fruit had ye then in those things whereof ye are now ashamed? for the end of those things is death.
Rom 6:23 For the wages of sin is death;....
2nd way was to remove the law so that sin was not counted to us. No law = no sin.
To save us from sin and death God could have removed the law. But then unrighteousness would be uncontroled, and sin which is no longer sin would be emortalized to rein forever.
3rd way was the perfect combination of mercy and justice.
Jesus was able to work out a plan so that the law and the sinner could both be saved.
1Jn 3:5 And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin.
If the law was removed explain why Jesus needed to Die?
Rom 6:22 But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life. 23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
2Pe 2:19 While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption: for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage. 20 For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning. 21 For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them.
