“Jesus kept the sabbath perfectly. “
what’s the commandment ?
“Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: but the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: for in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.”
Exodus 20:9-11
what’s Jesus defense ?
“The man departed, and told the Jews that it was Jesus, which had made him whole. And therefore did the Jews persecute Jesus, and sought to slay him, because he had done these things on the sabbath day. But Jesus answered them, My Father worketh hitherto, and I work. Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only had broken the sabbath, but said also that God was his Father, making himself equal with God.”
John 5:15-18 KJV
Clearly Jesus didn’t deny doing work on a sabbath day and clearly the commandment is to do no work.
No gathering any food is specifically named in Moses word ? Didn’t Jesus disciples do that also On a sabbath ?
when Jesus came forth you have to let the shadows go and embrace the reality
This is what the law invited
“And they watched him, whether he would heal him on the sabbath day; that they might accuse him.
And he saith unto the man which had the withered hand, Stand forth. And he saith unto them, Is it lawful to do good on the sabbath days, or to do evil? to save life, or to kill? ( note either is a work )
But they held their peace. And when he had looked round about on them with anger, being grieved for the hardness of their hearts, he saith unto the man, Stretch forth thine hand. And he stretched it out: and his hand was restored whole as the other. And the Pharisees went forth, and straightway took counsel with the Herodians against him, how they might destroy him.”
Mark 3:2-6 KJV
he’s revealing the truth God doesn’t care if we do good on a sabbath if it involves work he cares that every day we do good and not evil
“But if the ministration of death, written and engraven in stones, ( the two tablets with the commandments on them ) was glorious, so that the children of Israel could not stedfastly behold the face of Moses for the glory of his countenance; which glory was to be done away:
how shall not the ministration of the spirit ( the gospel ) be rather glorious?
For if the ministration of condemnation ( the law ) be glory, much more doth the ministration of righteousness exceed in glory. For if that which is done away was glorious, much more that which remaineth is glorious.
Seeing then that we have such hope, we use great plainness of speech: and not as Moses, which put a vail over his face, that the children of Israel could not stedfastly look to the end of that which is abolished: but their minds were blinded: for until this day remaineth the same vail untaken away in the reading of the old testament; which vail is done away in Christ.
But even unto this day, when Moses is read, the vail is upon their heart.”
2 Corinthians 3:7-9, 11-15
“knowing this, that the law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and for sinners, for unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers, for whoremongers, for them that defile themselves with mankind, for menstealers, for liars, for perjured persons, and if there be any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine;”
1 Timothy 1:9-10
when you can’t get past what Moses said It’s going to hinder the ability to accept the gospel.
the law was born of sin for sinners without the spirit and was only ever meant to last until Christ came and died and rose
“Wherefore then serveth the law? It was added because of transgressions,
till the seed should come ( Christ ) to whom the promise was made;
and it was ordained by angels in the hand of a mediator.”
Galatians 3:19 KJV
It’s not at all a presumption it’s just being able to accept what’s there in Christ and hear what the apostles are saying
one day is not more than another whether you do good or evil in Christ is what matters
and those stone tablets aren’t how we worship God anymore that’s how those sinners Paul explains about did
“Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God.
Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.”
Romans 3:19-20 KJV
the law proves we are all sinners it cannot save us to jeep
It’s deeds like the sabbath commandment given to israel
But the gospel has come now and can save believers
“But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets;”
Romans 3:21 KJV
note it’s not saying parts of the law or just this or that commandment but the law as a whole
once your convicted of breaking say a sabbath command under the law it’s death
“And while the children of Israel were in the wilderness, they found a man that gathered sticks upon the sabbath day. And the LORD said unto Moses, The man shall be surely put to death: all the congregation shall stone him with stones without the camp. And all the congregation brought him without the camp, and stoned him with stones, and he died; as the LORD commanded Moses.”
Numbers 15:32, 35-36 KJV
hopefully you understand Jesus isn’t the one commanding that but the angel who God set over them is .
“Behold, I send an Angel before thee, to keep thee in the way, and to bring thee into the place which I have prepared. Beware of him, and obey his voice, provoke him not; for he will not pardon your transgressions: for my name is in him.”
Exodus 23:20-21
That’s what Paul’s talking about so often and what Stephen is explaining ordained of angels “ disposition of angels “ receivers the law from an angel who spoke to Moses on Sinai who bore the lords name because of thoer transgressions worshipping idols
It was an angel all along even when Moses was called
“This Moses whom they refused, saying, Who made thee a ruler and a judge? the same did God send to be a ruler and a deliverer by the hand of the angel which appeared to him in the bush.”
Acts 7:35 KJV
“And when forty years were expired, there appeared to him in the wilderness of mount Sina an angel of the Lord in a flame of fire in a bush.”
Acts 7:30 KJV
And on the Mount
“This is he, that was in the church in the wilderness with the angel which spake to him in the mount Sina, and with our fathers: who received the lively oracles to give unto us:”
Acts 7:38 KJV
that’s why Paul goes into “ don’t be worshipping angels when he’s explaining don’t let people judge you by those laws from Sinai given to Moses
“And they made a calf in those days, and offered sacrifice unto the idol, and rejoiced in the works of their own hands. Then God turned, and gave them up to worship the host of heaven; ( angels ) as it is written in the book of the prophets, O ye house of Israel, have ye offered to me slain beasts and sacrifices By the space of forty years in the wilderness?”
Acts 7:41-42
“who have received the law by the disposition of angels, and have not kept it.”
Acts 7:53 KJV
“Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days: which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.
Let no man beguile you of your reward in a voluntary humility and worshipping of angels, intruding into those things which he hath not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind,”
Colossians 2:16-18 KJV
Even this wasn’t actually God but was the mediation of angels like Paul teaches
“And the angel of the LORD appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush: and he looked, and, behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed.”
Exodus 3:2 KJV
I’m not sure how much clear evidence you would require Sometimes it doesn’t matter what we see in scripture because we already know in our own mind.
