No one understands the scripture without the Holy Spirit ... the Holy Spirit was not yet given.
You are proving what God said in both the old and new testament:
2 Timothy 2:25
He must gently reprove those who oppose him, in the hope that God may grant them repentance leading to a knowledge of the truth.
2nd Timothy:3:5
King James Bible
Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.
Verse 6
King James Bible
For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts,
Verse 7
King James Bible
Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.
Hosea 4 :King James Bible
1Hear the word of the LORD, ye children of Israel: for the LORD hath a controversy with the inhabitants of the land, because
there is no truth, nor mercy, nor knowledge of God in the land.
2By swearing, and lying, and killing, and stealing, and committing adultery, they break out, and blood toucheth blood.
3Therefore shall the land mourn, and every one that dwelleth therein shall languish, with the beasts of the field, and with the fowls of heaven; yea, the fishes of the sea also shall be taken away.
4Yet let no man strive, nor reprove another: for thy people
are as they that strive with the priest.
5Therefore shalt thou fall in the day, and the prophet also shall fall with thee in the night, and I will destroy thy mother.
6My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.
7As they were increased, so they sinned against me:
therefore will I change their glory into shame.

Jeremiah 4
God Calls Israel by His Promise
1If thou wilt return, O Israel, saith the LORD, return unto me: and if thou wilt put away thine abominations out of my sight, then shalt thou not remove.
2And thou shalt swear, The LORD liveth, in truth, in judgment, and in righteousness; and the nations shall bless themselves in him, and in him shall they glory.
3For thus saith the LORD to the men of Judah and Jerusalem, Break up your fallow ground, and sow not among thorns.
4Circumcise yourselves to the LORD, and take away the foreskins of your heart, ye men of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem: lest my fury come forth like fire, and burn that none can quench
it, because of the evil of your doings.

Lamentation for Judah
19My bowels, my bowels! I am pained at my very heart; my heart maketh a noise in me; I cannot hold my peace, because thou hast heard, O my soul, the sound of the trumpet, the alarm of war.
20Destruction upon destruction is cried; for the whole land is spoiled: suddenly are my tents spoiled,
and my curtains in a moment.
21How long shall I see the standard,
and hear the sound of the trumpet?
22For my people
is foolish, they have not known me; they
are sottish children, and they have none understanding: they
are wise to do evil, but to do good they have no knowledge.
We could keep going on and on about people that thank they are serving God but are not.
