Yes, I believe he is running Windows; however, Jocund is talking about booting the computer from a Linux "Live CD"...

Linux is often used to do repair on Windows machines. And, "crashed disks" is probably the number one most-often type of repair done with Linux on Windows machines.

I found this. I downloaded it, and going to check it out. It sounds like something that might be usable for fixing stuff like we are talking about.

So this is kinda off-topic (again) and way off from the original intent of this thread but I’ve noticed that people asking for help here are a bit strange with their requests.
For example one guy asks for something.
Then someone responds right away.
Then, the original guy doesn’t respond for like a month and then comes back and asks another unrelated question.

Weird.

I noticed this with others by the way and not you but since you responded then let me ask you.

Why don’t you respond and disappear when someone gives you an answer? Think about how someone might genuinely spend their time to help you and gain nothing in return. Like helping you changing a tire.

Lol. Oh boy. I probably shouldn’t have ask you this but it’s not about ghosting it’s about basic norms of human decency and respect. This is something that my mom thought me basically when I was a kid.
Think about this:

You’re on the road and you got a flat tire.
You then ask for help. Like triple A or maybe a stranger passing pay.
Someone comes by and says they’re there to help you and tell you a few things about the root cause of the issue.
‘You sit there silently without responding for minutes and then you respond with something unrelated like “my fridge isn’t working. Do you know why?”.


Wouldn’t this situation be weird to you?

I don't understand how people think... There have been plenty of times I have tried to get help from the Model Airplane community, only to have someone make one of the stupidest comments I ever heard. LOL

Yeah and then someone responds with giving their home address on an online anonymous forum and asks for computer parts to be mailed to his house so he can scrap them for metal.

This is the equivalent of showing nude pictures to the triple A guy trying to help you changing your tire after you sat silently for minutes.

For someone who’s been dealing with computers and software for over 25 years I’ve always wondered why no one has developed some code so instead of ignoring people, you‘d be able to ignore topics instead.

Some selective software do have it but it’s not mainstream yet.

Around here, I feel like the ignore feature isn't very good. I mean if I want to block someone, I don't want to see them at all anymore! The ignore feature is very wishy washy.

I remember the first time I learned about banning. People were getting banned, and then after a while they would get unbanned. I remember thinking to myself. What is the point of this? If your so bad that you need to be banned then why not always make it permanent? Of if you want something that is temporary, then why not call it a time out? So much of this stuff doesn't make any sense to me.

I remember being in one Christian Chat Room that was the most hypocritical place I've ever seen! The rule was "Don't Swear or Cuss" But if the Admin got angry He would write the S word. Also sometimes the moderators got by with it too. LOL

When you came to troll this thread I told you why I like Linux. But the real reason why I started this thread is because I wanted to meet more people who use Linux. Sometimes one can make friends with people you have something in common with.

Yes I get that but through humor you can make friend with Windows users too.
