No one can understand the full extent of His sovereign plan.
No one can comprehend the good and evil that He sends. -tc

" A bruised reed He will not break, and a smoldering wick He will not snuff out. In faithfulness He will bring forth justice;" - Isaiah 42:3
My pastor quoted that verse at my nine year cake a couple of years ago :D

Perhaps I should design a panel for it...

I have a number of Isaiah panels, but none from 42 that I can find right now

I am so thankful that He is who He is. He's exactly who I need Him to be...the perfect Father. He never quits me.

There, now we know what three questions you are speaking of.......your welcome....... :)

Ya sure you don't want to retract this statement?
Regarding Righteous Judgment? He is the one who determines this Judgement, not myself.

The True Christian is taught to be humble, but then to let God repay evil with evil.

Romans 12:19-21 NKJV - "Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but [rather] give place to wrath; for it is written, "Vengeance [is] Mine, I will repay," says the Lord. 20 Therefore "If your enemy is hungry, feed him; If he is thirsty, give him a drink; For in so doing you will heap coals of fire on his head." 21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good."

Be careful not to twist my words to suit your personal ideals.

No, I don't want to retract my position. I actually believe and pay attention to the Word of God.

Yes I’m certain there have been those that have an unhealthy allegiance to Calvin. I’ve met a few in person as well, but again, most of the “let’s bash certain brethren” threads today go in one direction.

What was your name with the different membership?
Well 7seas for one and a couple of others.

When people label another as a "calvinist," it is a false judgment of that person's heart (if they don't claim the position). And I must say, people can judge me all they like . . . however, my Father in Heaven isn't so graceful and understanding as myself. If anyone knows anything about Righteous Judgment, it's a brutal position to place oneself into. But if judging the hearts and minds of others floats "your" boat . . . enjoy yourselves.
This thread was addressed to Calvinists, so why are you getting heated? As it is, it is a matter of doctrine, not heart. But maybe it spills over? you tell us. No one is judging hearts here. That is just you with your paranoia getting the better of you again.

I'm also on Timmy's bad person list...called me evil in fact because I pointed out a pet error of his and we can't have that.

You missed the point entirely.

Calvinists fully believe in all the tenets of THE Gospel unto Salvation. Just because some may differ with their interpretations on other issues doesn’t mean they aren’t saved Christians.
Have you studied Calvinism? I have and I'm currently going over it again. What do you think of limited atonement and the rest of you get to keep the flames of hell burning brightly. ? For that matter, what do you think about irresistible grace? As in I just could not help myself and had to become a Christian. I'm asking. Not looking for a line drawn in the sand here at all. I certainly tried to discuss with our friend Timmy, but after myself and a couple of others pointed out the fatal error (like a frozen screen) in his conclusion about Pharaoh, he shut down, decided I was the devil, put someone else on ignore but I think he may still be talking to another.

people in general are simple enough to be totally deceived by surface level appearances.
Good to know. I'll keep an eye out for that.

In the meantime though, have you actually studied Calvinism? I mean the real thing and not the smorgasbord 'I'll have one of those and two of that' type of thing. I mean people who have had something of everything and gone back for second helpings.

One cannot hold to 4 points of Calvinism and avoid the 5th point. So you either believe the nonsensical TULIP doctrine, or you believe the biblical Gospel. What many do not know is that Calvin interpreted the Bible correctly in his commentaries (see Bible Hub), then did a 180 degree turn in his Institutes. That is called being double-minded.
Interesting anecdote about Calvin. He apparently never pinpointed his actual conversion to Christianity. In other words he never stood up in the assembly and gave his 'testimony' . He considered himself to be a Christian from the moment of his baptism as an infant. I think people forget or maybe do not know this. He was not Lutheran either as some think, but was baptized into the RC church.

He also, apparently, considered the new birth Jesus spoke of as unnecessary if you were already in the RC church. A great fan of baptismal regeneration.

In his own words: 'At whatever time we are baptized, we are washed and purified once for the whole of life. We must recall our baptism so as to feel certain and secure of the remission of sins. It wipes and washed away all our defilements. God in baptism promises remission of sins. Let us therefore embrace it in faith. '

i hardly think it's fair to only ask Calvinists questions.
so if no one objects, i think i'll just have discussions with y'all here in the discussions place.

Did the man actually invite those who gave the excuses?
Did those who made the excuses know that they were being invited?
So, if the man originally wanted them to come, why did they end up with no supper?
  • v.16 He "bade many"
    • yes, or Christ is a liar
  • v.17 they "that were bidden" v.18 "with one consent began to make excuse"
    • yes, no one makes excuses for things they don't think they need to make excuses for
  • many are called; few are chosen

Luke 14
15And when one of them that sat at meat with him heard these things, he said unto him, Blessed is he that shall eat bread in the kingdom of God.16Then said he unto him, A certain man made a great supper, and bade many: 17And sent his servant at supper time to say to them that were bidden, Come; for all things are now ready. 18And they all with one consent began to make excuse. The first said unto him, I have bought a piece of ground, and I must needs go and see it: I pray thee have me excused. 19And another said, I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I go to prove them: I pray thee have me excused. 20And another said, I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come.
21So that servant came, and shewed his lord these things. Then the master of the house being angry said to his servant, Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in hither the poor, and the maimed, and the halt, and the blind. 22And the servant said, Lord, it is done as thou hast commanded, and yet there is room. 23And the lord said unto the servant, Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled. 24For I say unto you, That none of those men which were bidden shall taste of my supper.
i have 4 questions to add =]

  • why are the poor & maimed "brought in" and those found on the road "compelled" instead of "bidden" ?
  • why are "none of those men who were bidden" able to taste the Master's supper?
  • why do all of those "many" that he "bade" make excuses "all with one consent"?
  • why are none of those "brought in" and "compelled" even given the opportunity to make excuses?

The poor and the maimed had to be assisted physically, and encouraged mentally, to come since this man was a very wealthy man and had spread out a great supper (salvation). Under normal circumstances they would not have dared come to this supper. So why would any of them make excuses to stay away from this banquet?

Those found on the highways and hedges may have been hiding or running away from the law, therefore they needed to be compelled to come. But the ones who were bidden were the invited guests who all made excuses, and actually insulted the man who invited them, therefore they were shut out completely.

This parable contrasts Israel (the "invitees" to whom Christ came, and was rejected) with Gentiles and sinners, to whom Christ did not come originally but who now comprise the majority of those who are saved. God blinded unbelieving Israel, and opened the door wide to the Gentiles who belong to the "wild olive tree".

This parable goes hand-in-hand with that about the Wedding Feast, where those who failed to acquire the wedding garment (the robe of righteousness) were shut out.

And now He's opening the eyes of Israel! Hallelujah!
