Is that a cigarette?A good friend of mine used to smoke Merit!
My pastor quoted that verse at my nine year cake a couple of years ago" A bruised reed He will not break, and a smoldering wick He will not snuff out. In faithfulness He will bring forth justice;" - Isaiah 42:3
Did the man actually invite those who gave the excuses?
Did those who made the excuses know that they were being invited?
So, if the man originally wanted them to come, why did they end up with no supper?
Ya sure you don't want to retract this statement?
No one is judging a "person's heart". Calvinists post their beliefs and that is what is being judged.
Yes I’m certain there have been those that have an unhealthy allegiance to Calvin. I’ve met a few in person as well, but again, most of the “let’s bash certain brethren” threads today go in one direction.
What was your name with the different membership?
When people label another as a "calvinist," it is a false judgment of that person's heart (if they don't claim the position). And I must say, people can judge me all they like . . . however, my Father in Heaven isn't so graceful and understanding as myself. If anyone knows anything about Righteous Judgment, it's a brutal position to place oneself into. But if judging the hearts and minds of others floats "your" boat . . . enjoy yourselves.
Hey, beef barley stew makes me happy.Whatevs. Stew if that's what makes you happy.
Join the club. This thread was addressed to Calvinists, so why are you getting heated? As it is, it is a matter of doctrine, not heart. But maybe it spills over? you tell us. No one is judging hearts here. That is just you with your paranoia getting the better of you again.
I'm also on Timmy's bad person list...called me evil in fact because I pointed out a pet error of his and we can't have that.![]()
You missed the point entirely.
Calvinists fully believe in all the tenets of THE Gospel unto Salvation. Just because some may differ with their interpretations on other issues doesn’t mean they aren’t saved Christians.

Personally, I'm honored to be a charter member.
people in general are simple enough to be totally deceived by surface level appearances.
One cannot hold to 4 points of Calvinism and avoid the 5th point. So you either believe the nonsensical TULIP doctrine, or you believe the biblical Gospel. What many do not know is that Calvin interpreted the Bible correctly in his commentaries (see Bible Hub), then did a 180 degree turn in his Institutes. That is called being double-minded.

Luke 14
15And when one of them that sat at meat with him heard these things, he said unto him, Blessed is he that shall eat bread in the kingdom of God.16Then said he unto him, A certain man made a great supper, and bade many: 17And sent his servant at supper time to say to them that were bidden, Come; for all things are now ready. 18And they all with one consent began to make excuse. The first said unto him, I have bought a piece of ground, and I must needs go and see it: I pray thee have me excused. 19And another said, I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I go to prove them: I pray thee have me excused. 20And another said, I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come.
21So that servant came, and shewed his lord these things. Then the master of the house being angry said to his servant, Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in hither the poor, and the maimed, and the halt, and the blind. 22And the servant said, Lord, it is done as thou hast commanded, and yet there is room. 23And the lord said unto the servant, Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled. 24For I say unto you, That none of those men which were bidden shall taste of my supper.
i have 4 questions to add
- why are the poor & maimed "brought in" and those found on the road "compelled" instead of "bidden" ?
- why are "none of those men who were bidden" able to taste the Master's supper?
- why do all of those "many" that he "bade" make excuses "all with one consent"?
- why are none of those "brought in" and "compelled" even given the opportunity to make excuses?
And now He's opening the eyes of Israel! Hallelujah! The poor and the maimed had to be assisted physically, and encouraged mentally, to come since this man was a very wealthy man and had spread out a great supper (salvation). Under normal circumstances they would not have dared come to this supper. So why would any of them make excuses to stay away from this banquet?
Those found on the highways and hedges may have been hiding or running away from the law, therefore they needed to be compelled to come. But the ones who were bidden were the invited guests who all made excuses, and actually insulted the man who invited them, therefore they were shut out completely.
This parable contrasts Israel (the "invitees" to whom Christ came, and was rejected) with Gentiles and sinners, to whom Christ did not come originally but who now comprise the majority of those who are saved. God blinded unbelieving Israel, and opened the door wide to the Gentiles who belong to the "wild olive tree".
This parable goes hand-in-hand with that about the Wedding Feast, where those who failed to acquire the wedding garment (the robe of righteousness) were shut out.
