Another way to look at this is to consider "positional righteousness" in the context of family...
A son born into the family has an inherited "position"; he will never
not be a son, even if he does something terribly wrong. A son
adopted into the family will likely struggle in his identity for a while, being unsure of his status. He, too, will henceforth never
not be a son, even if he does something terribly wrong. So too we as Christians are adopted into God's family; we now have the
position of sons (or daughters), and doing wrong things doesn't cause us to be "dis-adopted". Our
status with God is secure, but our
relationship with Him can be damaged by sin. We do, as you say, correct that by acknowledgement of sin, and repentance. At the same time, when dealing with the world, the flesh, or the enemy, we stand on our
position.

just my own belief we can’t say we’re not sinning if we are and expect this not to be true it’s sort of repeated in Paul’s epistles it’s how Paul preached repentance
“But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints; For
this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.
Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh
the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience. Be not ye therefore partakers with them.”
Ephesians 5:3, 5-7 KJV
He also warned against continuing in our actions bekng opposed to God and losing the promise of inheritance he spoke in the same epistles
“Now
the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which
I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.”

his epistles are just like the gospel promise and assurance first and then harder truths and warnings to bring us to repentance in deed and truth letting that inward faith manifest
Paul’s epistles are really made after this shape is my own thought ( who knows if it’s correct ) but I see them like this
“She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee:
go, and sin no more.”
John 8:11 KJV
Remission of sins and also repentance seems to be found throughout the New Testament. It’s all Meant to go together and lead us to better ways. He’s not Saying you are sinless or Lost but he’s saying get real with God and when you realize you have sinned in Christ , don’t pretend you have t but confess and turn away and Christ is faithful to forgive us .
We still rely always on his mercy even though we are convinced that sin is not allowed we still make mistakes but when we do we can’t pretend we didn’t in my view that’s willful sin to refuse to acknolwedge our own sins when we are aware of them and pretend we’re righteous
but that’s only My own view doesn’t mean it’s the only way to see it just what I perceive. We’re like David if we refuse to acknolwedge sin it’s going to crunch our souls but if we acknolwedge it when we’ve sinned he’s always going to forgive us and cleanse us from the iniquity it stains upon our souls
when we acknowledge sin it brings some sorrow but it also helps us get sick And tired of sinning and helps us change
