So sorry, this is going to be a very long definition but, I do think it is necessary.
Consider the Pharisees... full of God's Word - The Torah, Seed of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, circumcised, living in Jerusalem, going in and out of the Temple, in covenant with God according to the Law of Moses yet.... FULL OF PRIDE.
In the Day of Visitation, they rejected Jesus Christ face to face - basically, looked GOD right in the eye and rejected Him and His Lamb their Messiah - The ONLY ONE that could take ALL their sin away.
The Pharisees could not recognize Jesus Christ because they were spiritually blind and deaf because of PRIDE.
A religious spirit will operate in a person that is full of Bible knowledge and other religions that they have received from their human reasoning and commentaries, and man, and even devils- lying spirits but, were not taught the scriptures by the Holy Spirit. (Note: Every preacher and commentary must be checked with the Holy Spirit)
They will do all kinds of "religious works" and boast about them and condemn others for not doing the same "religious works" that they do. They exalt themselves and boast that they are better than others....
Luke 18:9-14

9 And he (Jesus) spake this parable unto certain which trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others:
10 Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican.
11 The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican.
12 I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess.
13 And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.

They put their followers under all kinds of "religious works" that they must do to maintain salvation or be "good enough" to be saved and go to heaven and be accepted by God. It's absolutely horrible and so NOT God.
They just go on and on about all their seminary degrees and years of studying the scriptures, and all their different languages they speak especially Greek and Hebrew... "works, works, works"..."blah, blah, blah"
yet, they say NOTHING about how wonderful God is and how AMAZING God's LOVE is, how INCREDIBLE and LIFEGIVING His Word is...and how AWESOME fellowshipping with God is, how NOTHING compares to knowing and loving God, encouraging others to encounter their own relationship with Jesus Christ....
To be free from such a demonic prideful religious spirit, just simply humble oneself, repent of pride and trusting in works, call on the Name of Jesus Christ and ask to be filled with the Holy Spirit. God will resist the proud but give grace to the humble.

It is only by the Holy Spirit that we know or recognize anything of God - including Jesus Christ our Savior, Lord and King.
The same Holy Spirit that gives and operates in us the gift of speaking in tongues, can also give us and operate in us the gift of interpretation of tongues....this is true.
At a home worship and prayer meeting, the worshipper began to sing in tongues, as he sang I could hear him in tongues with my physical ears, yet, in my head with my spiritual ears I could hear the worshippers voice in English which is my native language. But it is also evident where sin abounds, the Grace of God abounds more [Romans 5:20].
We all sin, and the vast majority are sins we never intended to do. Someone attacks us and out of self we retaliate. We do indeed Repent. But thankfully, in our moment of Weakness, the Grace of God is there greater than our Weakness!

I agree the Pharisee were clean on the outside but inside were full of dead men's bones. But you're wrong that they were full of God's word—they were full of their own traditions. Jesus never criticized the Pharisees for being full of God's word, but for elevating their own traditions over God's word; and for not understanding His word correctly.

Many people want the gifts of the Holy Spirit, but not many want to seek them out.
God will not be mocked. We will reap exactly what we sow. If we sow to the Spirit, then we will reap of the Spirit. If we sow to the flesh, then we will reap of the flesh.
If we want to be a vessel for the Lord then we have to pray, study his Word, seek Him, deny our own selves and the flesh, and walk in the Spirit.
If we fail at times, then we have an advocate with the Father...Jesus Christ.
If we take it all to Him, then He will fix it. But we have to submit to Him and walk with Him in the Spirit. If we are not willing to do that then we might as well forget about it...God's not going to be blessing us with any gifts of the Holy Spirit.
I can assure you folks if we don't live it God's way, repent when we sin, or try to sneak around and hide anything...Then the true genuine Holy Ghost will tell on us and make it evident. What's done in darkness will come to the light.
That's why there are so many out there looking so foolish, weak, causing confusion and reproach. They are not willing to submit to the Lord and do it his way.

Same attitude as Judas. He knew Christ was the Messiah, but he wanted a Messiah that was Prophesied that killed their enemies. That Version is Coming, but thankfully, God had Gentiles being Grafted in first

You need to stop with the nonsense. Quit looking to the fakes to try to use that as a method to fight against the Word of God.
The Word of God is the truth, and it will stand when this worlds on fire. It's a two-edged sword. So, you need to get in it, have faith in it, and quit trying to disprove it. Unless you find yourself fighting against God. That is definitely not a good place to be for anyone especially a Christian.
Quit looking to men and look straight to the Lord and let Him teach you and show you.
