God was demonstrating that His righteousness and holiness do not change, no matter the circumstances. Circumcision was a sign of God's covenant relationship with Israel, established with Abraham. (Genesis 21:4)

Moses could not lead Israel with such a sin hanging over his head. It is not stated why Moses failed to circumcise the boy. Zipporah was far from impressed. Her attitude may have led to Moses sending her back to Jethro with the two boys. It's interesting that it was just one child not circumcised. Moses was not ignorant of God's requirements.
i really dont think it was Moses God sought to kill. I reckon it was Gershom, Moses firstborn son.

All firstborns are meant to be given to God. That is why they need to be bought back with a sacrifice. Abraham was asked to sacrifice Isaac (even though he had Ishamel with Hagar, it was like Ishmael didnt count) but I do recall that Ishmael was circumcised when he was 13. Isaac was circumcised when he was eight days old. Well that was when it was supposed to happen.

Instead of sacrifice the firstborns, an animal (goat...or two pigeons) were acceptable. But the Israelites then were circumcising ALL their sons not just the firstborns and they still did the animal sacrifice anyway.

God is God . "All souls are mine". type of thing. So ? He tried kill Moses because Moses was caving in to his wife like Adam ? Don't take much. Pastor once said , Let God be God. I can honestly say. God has been Good to me.
er, why do you say Moses was 'caving to his wife'. strange,

People like to blame Zipporah, but she was the heroine in the story as I see it. She saved her husband's life by doing something women probably were frowned on for doing in those times.

Moses.jpg This is but one of the artistic renditions of Moses with horns and the stone tablets. There is also a statue of the same, Moses seated with horns and the stone tablets.

This error of understanding continued until the first translations of the KIJV.

Also unicorns were put where it should have been a more common and real beast.

he came down the mountain with horns? Where did you read that.

I thought Moses came down the mountain carrying the ten commandments on two tablets.

Yea I would not have thought God would 'try' to do anything. In the KJV, its just stated 'He sought to kill him' it doesnt name who 'him' is.

thats is some freaky bas relief.

And I thought Michelangelo's David was a bit of artistic license. Why would you have a GIANT statue of David, butt naked? How big was the statue of Goliath then?

Michelangelo must have been reading a mixed up translation of the Bible to get that weird interpretation for sure.

If one examines David's most personal parts he will find David is not quite Kosher. Ref. David by Michaelangelo.

It's not what the Word says. Moses was the guilty one.

God can seek to kill you, even if you are innocent, because you are the firstborn. If you are firstborn, you automatically belong to Him, it is His right.

Interesting KJV doesn't say Moses or Gershom . Speaks of the firstborn in the previous verses. I haven't looked at the original text. I assumed it was Moses from the KJV but like I said You could be right Lanolin, it could be that That the Lord didn't seek to kill Moses at all.

so no.

I don't know what version you use, but I have Bible Hub with at least 30 versions. None of them state that God was about to kill the boy.

yea I figured
KJV is clearer than the other versions that presumes its Moses.
But that literal translation makes it obvious that its the firstborn. Thats not the first time Ive come across some clunky Bible translations that mix up the people, jut because its not clear who 'him' is.

But then you'd think how could they get it so wrong..God said he was going to kill the firstborns, and then Zipporah goes and circumcises her son (she doesnt circumcise MOSES) and besides Moses isnt even the firstborn anyway.

Lol. Michelangelo's David is a somewhat offensive characterization of the warrior king. Not only non-kosher, but effeminate looking in other ways. I think Michelangelo actually carved out one of the philistines King David slew. ;-)
