God said this to Noah when he already 500 years old so...He was probably like, 120 years is nothing.

But to us, it seems like a very long time.

Of course, those ppl who are spiritual snobs are like why do you even read the Bible and pick up on this stuff nobody cares about. Except it DOES at it matter to someone. Nothing in the Bible is written without any reason.... it is all inspired.

I reckon the snobs are just cant be bothered finding out stuff because they think they know everything to there is to know already. Which is a very sad attitude to take.

Just a thought on the title, God does not need to "try" to do anything. He does it.

there are Bible crosswords you can do...Ive seen the books in the shops. Someone took the time to create crossword puzzles out of the Bible.

Also Bible colouring books.

Apparently they help people know their Bible better.

well not everyone can read fluently...a lot of people are dyslexic. But often its a case of the Bible is printed in very tiny font and its hard to read many editions. If anything, the Bible should be easy to read and easy to understand. God wants to convey his message in all languages and not have it obscured by ppl going oh but you are reading it WRONG.

With the 120 years it seems some Bibles are translating it two different ways..depending on which version you are reading

1) its the limit of number of years people have to live on earth in the flesh
2) its the number of years people have left to live on earth before the big flood.

is it 1) or 2) or is it both.

This is true Lanolin I have used Bible Crosswords , I have played Bible games, answered Bible Quizzes at restaurants. But I never used the Bible with others except to point to God. Namely Jesus. When it comes down to " the faith which was once committed to the saints". Which is the general topic.

One could put it a different way. God may intend to do something but may not do it eventually (and vice versa). The case of Moses is a good example. The case of Abraham pleading for Sodom is another.

sorry the above post was referring to 120 years which is another thread to get to the bottom of that mystery

But with Moses death it does seem he agreed with God and submitted his life to Him. It wasnt like Moses was trying to fight God about living longer or being allowed into the promised land.

He may have known well my time is up.
With Jesus he was much younger and found it more difficult to leave and tell his disciples he was going to die.

My comment stands as simply correcting anyone who thinks our Maker cannot do anything He chooses. I believe all He chooses is perfect. No, so not go into His having repented of any past actions for i AMWEL AWARE hE HAS DONE THAT.

Wonder what the original text says . Sounds like Moses got a bit excited . Maybe he saw and angel with a sword in his hand? The scripture is doesn't go beyond what is says in the KJV . Amplified Bible says this ,
24. Along the way at a [resting-] place, the Lord met [Moses] and sought to kill him [made him acutely and almost fatally ill].

25. [Now apparently he had [2] failed to circumcise one of his sons, his wife being opposed to it; but seeing his life in such danger] Zipporah took a flint knife and cut off the foreskin of her son and cast it to touch [Moses'] feet, and said, Surely a husband of blood you are to me!

26. When He let [Moses] alone [to recover], Zipporah said, A husband of blood are you because of the circumcision.

in the ICB version it says in Exodus 4:24

As Moses was on his way to Egypt, he stopped at a resting place for the night. The Lord met him there and tried to kill him.

I dont usually read the ICB version in fact it is the first time I am reading it. I usually read the KJV.

A lot of things arent making much sense in the ICB. (international childrens bible) Its meant to be a full translation not a paraphrase.

hmm the amplified bible seems to infer that Moses failed to circumcise one of his sons (which one?) was it his firstborn or what. Why one and not the other.

And why would Moses need to recover from that?

wouldnt it be his SON recovering from being circumcised?!

When I first read the passage in ICB I had to read it several times to get what was going on and it still didnt make sense.

Actually I was quite shocked that God tried to kill Moses as its sort of stated in the ICB. Yes He was going to kill the Egyptians firstborns, but then suddenly change tack and kill MOSES? that just previously he was choosing to be the leader and save all the Hebrews? whaaat?!

God is God . "All souls are mine". type of thing. So ? He tried kill Moses because Moses was caving in to his wife like Adam ? Don't take much. Pastor once said , Let God be God. I can honestly say. God has been Good to me.

Perhaps this is just one of the mistranslations, ike Moses came down the mountain with horns, the unicorn, and many others.

I stand in faith that My Father does not have need of trying to do anything, no, when His design is to do something, He simply does it.

Can anyone explain Exodus 4:24-26 to me?

I dont really get it...what did circumcising Moses son had to do with anything. Was God going to kill Moses if Zipporah had not circumcised their son?
was it to pay back for killing the Egyptian? It seems to come out of nowhere, especially after God had instructed Moses to go and do all these miracles in front of everyone.
God was demonstrating that His righteousness and holiness do not change, no matter the circumstances. Circumcision was a sign of God's covenant relationship with Israel, established with Abraham. (Genesis 21:4)

Moses could not lead Israel with such a sin hanging over his head. It is not stated why Moses failed to circumcise the boy. Zipporah was far from impressed. Her attitude may have led to Moses sending her back to Jethro with the two boys. It's interesting that it was just one child not circumcised. Moses was not ignorant of God's requirements.

I once read that some Jews claim it was Jethro who didn't want one son circumcised (he wanted one of the grandsons). Moses agreed, and while he lived with Jethro, he was under Jethro's roof and his rules. Only when Moses left, leaving Jethro's rules, did God hold him to account for the uncircumcised son (older than 8 days). This was the reason Zipporah only needed to circumcise one son (as they had already circumcised the other).

God holding Moses to account for the sin, rather than his son, shows God's justice. A child doesn't very well have the capacity to circumcise himself.

Some claim circumcision is a patriarchal thing, to somehow make out males to be more important than females. I think the passage disproves this view, as Zipporah's circumcision of her son was deemed valid and enough to save her husband's life. While some Jews today still claim circumcisions can only be done by males, many others use Zipporah's example to show that there is biblical precedent for a woman's role in the covenant as mohelets, or female mohels.

And why would Moses need to recover from that?

wouldnt it be his SON recovering from being circumcised?!
Lol. I think Moses was recovering from nearly being killed. If it was Moses himself who was uncircumcised, Zipporah could likely have fixed his condition on their wedding night!

Children recover faster than adults from circumcision (and experience less pain), which is why many medical professionals say 8 days is the ideal age for it.

he came down the mountain with horns? Where did you read that.

I thought Moses came down the mountain carrying the ten commandments on two tablets.

Yea I would not have thought God would 'try' to do anything. In the KJV, its just stated 'He sought to kill him' it doesnt name who 'him' is.
