There's loads of it ... I have a feeling you may be averse to the Pentecostal/Charismatic movement .. that's where you'll find the cross being preached.
What I've found out there is a bunch of "itching ears" and pastors willing to satisfy.

Haven't found anywhere the old time Gospel being preached that I remember as a child!

Back when folks with a broken heart before God would call on His mercy.

Today it's for the most part a social gathering!

yeah but ... "broken heart" is not bible [I see you are shocked] You's aiming to break folks hearts when all God requires is for them to change ... and He does the changing.

The "broken heart" is repentance, Evmur. You will read much of it in the book of Acts, where the Old time Gospel was preached by great men of God who preached Christ crucified!

I love you guys [old fashioned dyed in the wool evangelicals] but you don't see that times change, seasons change with God.

Sometimes He preaches funerals and He expects us to mourn, sometimes He preaches weddings and He expects us to rejoice and dance.

He really does.

To say to the sinnerman turn or burn has had it's day. God used it because it was only the gospel He had. But to say to the sinnerman "Come unto Me all you who are weary and find rest" is God's word just as real and powerful. God will use His message about ABUNDANT LIFE ... but whether saving from hell fire or abundant life still it is THE CROSS that we must come to.

Sidestepped? In what way? The verse speaks for itself--it is obvious Paul is speaking to believers, since he says WE:

"If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left,"--Hebrews 10:26
Exactly, the word WE is an inclusive term and in the context that it is applied in pertains to all believers.

You read it in Acts but it isn't there.

Anyone who has walked with the Lord a while will know what it is to be broken hearted ... but our initial experience is and ought to be the glad heart.

Amen, hellfire and brimstone teaching does not win hearts. It spreads fear. And many people out of fear try this game of lets live righteous lives so we can be spared this hellfire and brimstone. On;y to rea;use it does nto work and now maytter how hard they try to do the “best they can” their best always falls short.

so these people end up leaving the church in despair because they were never taught the true gospel of Grace.

Dear me. I understand that people have difficulty letting go of their long held beliefs. Jesus says if a man does not abide--that means that he once did and then does not. What is the PRIZE Paul speaks of? There is only one and that the gift of ETERNAL LIFE. Also the last verse says "Dear BROTHERS and SISTERS"--he is speaking to the believers. Abiding is not legalism--those are two different things.
Perhaps those that ABIDE do so out of faith and those that practice LEGALISM do so out of fear. I fully concur with your estimation.

They all don't come with a "glad heart," I've found that most come with tears that later turns to a glad heart.

The word we is preceded by conditional clause if.

Also remember the word if is used in generally 3 ways

if, maybe we will maybe we will not

if. But we wont

if, and we will

and also, Let not forget in the same passage. We is used again..

39 But we are not of those who draw back to [o]perdition, but of those who believe to the saving of the soul.

This time, instead of being preceded by a conditional clause, it is preceded by a contrasting clause “but”

in other words.

If we do this….

But we will not.

John Wesley used to say "the good news is bad news before it is good news"

Now, great man Wesley ... did a marvellous transforming work for the Lord in his day. But still he had not right to say that.

I agree

the bad news is the law. The minister of death

the Good news is the cross. The lamb of God.

I can understand what he meant and agree! The bad news is that you are a sinner without any hope in this world, the good news is that the Son of God loves you and made a way for you in the wilderness.

The cross is persecution ... we all have some measure of it. The more we love the Lord the more we will have of it. So who are bearing the brunt today?
