A law, by definition, is something that defines sin by which a person might be condemned if they practice it.

(see Matthew 13:41-42, Matthew 7:23, John 10:27).

Okay...here is what I am saying in different words.

The love of the Lord is shed abroad in the heart of believers (Romans 5:5) and this love is the fulfilling of the law (Romans 13:8-10).

As we bear the fruit of love; joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance; there is no just law that will condemn us in our behaviour (Psalms 94:20, Galatians 5:22-23). Thus, in bearing the fruit of the Spirit (which is primarily love) we become law-abiding citizens of the kingdom of heaven.

By the law, therefore, is the knowledge of sin. And sin is any behaviour that is lacking the love of Christ.

So, if I commit adultery with my neighbor's wife, kill my neighbor, steal from my neighbor, bear false witness against my neighbor, covet what belongs to my neighbor, or violate any other commandment concerning my neighbor, I am not loving my neighbor as myself.

Therefore, the law is the specifics of the love of God for those who have the love of the Lord dwelling in their hearts. And of course there is also a New Testament law that speaks to proactive means of loving my neighbor as myself.

If I look into the perfect law of liberty and continue in it, I will be blessed in what I do...

Jas 1:22, But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.
Jas 1:23, For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass:
Jas 1:24, For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.
Jas 1:25, But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.

I will here change my mind and say that the law of liberty is not the ten commandments.

For it is clear that we will be condemned by the law of Galatians 5:19-21 if we violate it.

So, the law of liberty has to do with doing away with the vices spoken of in that passage (Galatians 5:19-21) and in living by the virtues that scripture proclaims as its opposites (Galatians 5:22-23). And of course we can only do this in the power of the Spirit.

If we live by the Spirit, we will not walk according to the dictates of the flesh (Galatians 5:16); and there is no law against such behaviour (Galatians 5:22-23).

Therefore, as I bear the fruit of the Spirit, I will become a law-abiding citizen of the kingdom of heaven by virtue of my faith through which I have received the Holy Spirit.

Again, this righteousness is apart from the law but is nevertheless attested to by the law and the prophets (Romans 3:21) that it is righteousness indeed.

As I walk not after the flesh but after the Spirit, the righteousness of the law is fulfilled in me (Romans 8:4).

If I am spiritually-minded, I have peace with God, because I am subject in my mind to the law of God, and cannot be otherwise (Romans 8:7).

One can keep a law. and still be in sin

You need to learn what true sin is. The law can never help you with that.

A law is just a means that the courts can take you to trial and charge you with a crime so they can impose a punishment for that crime.

The Law of Liberty is simply the Spirit of the Law which says, DO EVERYTHING WITH LOVE IN YOUR HEART. We are liberated from the curse of the Letter of the Law which makes us all guilty. God has made it simple and easy.
By the law is still the knowledge of sin; that is, it points out when we specifically violate the virtue of love in our lives.

True sin is iniquity; and it is something that dwells in the heart. And I would agree with you that the law does not have the power to impart life (Galatians 3:21) or change the heart.

However, it does have the power to convert a soul (Psalms 19:7); in that it shows us that we are sinners in need of a Saviour (Romans 3:20) as a schoolmaster that leads us to Christ (Galatians 3:24). Therefore the law leads us to Christ who has the power to save us.

I find that being an evangelist will place you at odds with certain Christians.

Because in order to truly win souls to Jesus Christ, you must preach the law; for the law is a schoolmaster to lead men to Christ.

If you are not under the law then rest content in that. I am not preaching to you. I am preaching to those who are still sinners; for it is the sinner to whom the law applies (1 Timothy 1:9).

My point still stands

try to teach law and you will get flack as a lawyer
See Matthew 5:10-12; Luke 6:22-23, 1 Timothy 3:10-12.

I'm willing to stand up for what I believe in, even if it draws flack from those who don't understand what I'm saying.

If that is the case, then they are not sinners any longer, in the sense that a sinner is someone who commits sin (1 John 3:5-9).

While they are still sinners in the sense of indwelling sin (1 John 1:8, 1 Timothy 1:15).

By the law is still the knowledge of sin; that is, it points out when we specifically violate the virtue of love in our lives.

The knowledge of sin came when Adam and Eve ate of the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil and developed a conscience. This conscience makes us aware of right from wrong and is a law which we are all born with and is a curse because we are all now guilty because of it. Romans 4:15 says that where no law is, there is no transgression. Now we are all born in sin because we all have a conscience and are under law.

Right...

And also, by the law is the knowledge of sin (Romans 3:20).

According to scripture, we are not under the law (Romans 6:14) are dead to the law (Romans 7:4, Galatians 2:19) and have been delivered from the law (Romans 7:6) as concerning condemnation.

For we have been forgiven through the blood of Christ; and therefore when the Father looks down on us, He sees, not our sins, but the blood and righteousness of His Son Jesus Christ.

And therefore, in the Father's sight, the law does not any longer point the finger at us and call us sinners.

While from the perspective of the Holy Ghost, whose job it is to convict of sin and also to sanctify the believer, He has a relationship with us where He deals with us according to our sins according to the law (1 Corinthians 9:22, Romans 3:20).

As concerning obedience, we are under the law to Christ (again, 1 Corinthians 9:22).

The law is written on our hearts and minds through the New Covenant (Hebrews 8:8-10, Hebrews 10:16, Romans 8:7, Romans 8:4, 1 John 5:3, 2 John 1:6, Romans 13:8-10; Romans 5:5).

And again, we are not under the law (Romans 6:14), are dead to the law (Romans 7:4, Galatians 2:19) and are delivered from the law (Romans 7:6) as concerning condemnation;

while as concerning obedience we become obedient to the moral tenets of the law;

Not through attempting to obey a set of do's and don'ts (the letter); but through walking not after the flesh but after the Spirit (the spirit of what is written, Romans 7:6, 8:4).

As we bear the fruit of the Spirit, there is no law that will condemn us in our behaviour (Galatians 5:22-23). Thus, when we bear the fruit of the Spirit, we become law-abiding citizens of the kingdom of heaven (see Ezekiel 36:25-27).

This is a righteousness apart from the law that is nevertheless attested to be the law and the prophets (Romans 3:21) that it is indeed righteousness.

Because, this righteousness is not obtained by attempting to obey a set of do's and don'ts.

Rather, we obtain the Holy Spirit through faith in Jesus Christ (Galatians 3:14, Ephesians 1:13-14); and as we walk according to the Spirit, the righteousness of the law is fulfilled in us (Romans 8:4, Galatians 5:22-23).

That being said, it is written that if anyone turns his ear away from hearing the law, even his prayer shall be an abomination (Proverbs 28:9).

It is indeed faithful and true that those who are of the law are under a curse (Galatians 3:10, James 2:10, Matthew 5:48). However, this is as concerning those who are attempting to be justified by the law (Galatians 5:1-4).

For those who know that they are justified by the blood of Jesus Christ and not by their obedience / works / law-keeping, it becomes a blessing to look into the perfect law of liberty and to walk according to it (James 1:22-25).
I referenced 1 Corinthians 9:22 above.

I meant to reference 1 Corinthians 9:21.

“The law and the prophets were until John: since that time the kingdom of God is preached, and every man presseth into it.”
‭‭Luke‬ ‭16:16‬ ‭KJV‬‬

the gospel was shown in a figure to
Moses as a witness of Christ , it isnt the law Moses preached it was preached 430 years before Moses birth to Abraham and promised through Isaac to his descendants.

And his descendants had no faith so they received the law of Moses from
Angels being transgressors .

“And they made a calf in those days, and offered sacrifice unto the idol, and rejoiced in the works of their own hands. Then God turned, and gave them up to worship the host of heaven; as it is written in the book of the prophets, O ye house of Israel, have ye offered to me slain beasts and sacrifices by the space of forty years in the wilderness?

…Who have received the law by the disposition of angels, and have not kept it.”
‭‭Acts‬ ‭7:41-42, 53‬ ‭

The gospel came with Christ

“Wherefore then serveth the law? It was added because of transgressions, till the seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was ordained by angels in the hand of a mediator.”
‭‭Galatians‬ ‭3:19‬ ‭KJV‬‬

ask yourself why it doesn’t promise the Holy Spirit? Why doesn’t it offer remission of sins ? Why doesn’t it offer rebirth ? Y is the word Jesus preached contrary of what Moses preached ?

they were saved by Moses intercession , when God decided to destroy them, we aren’t saved by Moses intercession or word it’s still An accusation always will be

“Do not think that I will accuse you to the Father: there is one that accuseth you, even Moses, in whom ye trust.”
‭‭John‬ ‭5:45‬ ‭KJV‬‬

because that’s the purpose of the law

“Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God.

Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭3:19-20‬ ‭KJV‬‬

we can keep the law and it offers no justification because it’s not made for that purpose but for these people

“Knowing this, that the law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and for sinners, for unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers, For whoremongers, for them that defile themselves with mankind, for menstealers, for liars, for perjured persons, and if there be any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine;
‭‭1 Timothy‬ ‭1:9-10‬ ‭KJV‬‬

we have to be born again by the word of truth the kings word

“Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice.”
‭‭John‬ ‭18:37‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Moses word has this effect

“And not as Moses, which put a veil over his face, that the children of Israel could not stedfastly look to the end of that which is abolished: But their minds were blinded: for until this day remaineth the same veil untaken away in the reading of the old testament; which veil is done away in Christ. But even unto this day, when Moses is read, the veil is upon their heart.”
‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭3:13-15‬ ‭KJV‬‬
The law has the power to convert the soul (Psalms 19:7 (kjv)) in that it shows man that he is a sinner in need of a Saviour (Romans 3:20) and in this way it is a schoolmaster to lead him to Christ (Galatians 3:24).

Sin is the transgression of the law (1 John 3:4); and it is written,

Mat 1:21, And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.

and,

Tit 2:13, Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;
Tit 2:14, Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.
Tit 2:15, These things speak, and exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no man despise thee.

and,

2Co 5:17, Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

I would only say to this that we are to let no man judge us in regards to what we eat, or a holy day, or a new moon, or a sabbath day (Colossians 2:16).

As concerning condemnation, believers in Christ are not under the law (Romans 6:14), are dead to the law (Romans 7:4, Galatians 2:19), and are delivered from the law (Romans 7:6).

But as concerning obedience we are under the law to Christ (1 Corinthians 9:21). For, the law is written on our hearts and minds (Hebrews 8:8-10, Hebrews 10:16, Romans 8:7, Romans 8:4, 1 John 5:3, 2 John 1:6, Romans 13:8-10; Romans 5:5; 1 John 2:3-6) for those of us who are under the New Covenant (esp. Hebrews 8:8-10).

Just as it is written that if I disobey the food laws it will not affect my salvation in any way (1 Timothy 4:1-6), and yet I choose to obey them in order to show my Lord that I love Him more than those savoury meats (Matthew 5:17-20); so it is written that there is no condemnation for disobedience to the law (such as the sabbath); but that we are obedient to such things because we do love our Lord. And yet, if we were to disobey, it would not have any bearing whatsoever on our salvation. And if we are disobedient to the sabbath, or if we eat those savoury meats, it does not necessarily denote a lack of love for the Lord.

And also, let every man be fully convinced in his own mind as to whether he esteems one day above another or else sees every day as being alike (Romans 14).

I would only say to this that we are to let no man judge us in regards to what we eat, or a holy day, or a new moon, or a sabbath day (Colossians 2:16).
In the Leviticus, 23rd Chapter the sabbath day and the High Holy Days which begin I believe on the new moon. Are the feast of the Lord's. These days are to be observe in their season. In Colossians 2:16-17, "Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days. Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ. These feast days are the plans of God, they represent the future, with example from the past. All Holy Days are not to eat or drink, such as the atonement, but still to be observe. So this is actually what a person would say to someone who do not keep these feast day of the Lord, if they were judging them on those High and Holy Sabbath days, they were keeping. They would quoted Colossians 2: 16-17. So if you keep the first day of the week, Sunday, then it makes no sense to use this verse. You cannot worship other days that’s not written in the Bible to do, and then use the Bible to justify it. So if you keep another day thats not written in the Bible, then you are doing something on your own, thus it would really be contradictorily.

First let me say that God had Peter to clearly warn us about some of Paul’s writing. (2Peter:3:15-16) (v.15) And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you; (v.16) As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction. Now let us take heed to this warning, we can’t ignore all the bible and just concentrate on a hand full of verses out of the writings of Paul. Because some of Paul’s writing is hard to be understood.

Let's look some verses you post by Paul talking about to different laws. Paul concerning the unchangeable Royal Law of God. (Rom. 13:7-10) (v.7) Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honour to whom honour. (v.8) Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law. That’s the biblical definition of love, the keeping of God’s law. And you thought love was kissing and hugging and rolling around in bed. (v.9) For this, THOU SHALT NOT COMMIT ADULTERY, THOU SHALT NOT KILL, THOU SHALT NOT BEAR FALSE WITNESS, THOU SHALT NOT COVET; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, THOU SHALT LOVE THY NEIGHBOUR AS THYSELF. (v.10) Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.

And that is what God’s holy commandments are all about; the first four tells you how to love God and the last six tells you how to love your neighbor. If you love your God you will not do any thing to offend him, like having other gods before him. You will do as he says like remember the sabbath day to keep it holy on the seventh day of the week. If you love him you will obey him when he tells you not to eat certain meats etc… And the same goes for your fellow man, if you love your neighbor you wouldn’t steal from him, you wouldn’t kill him, you wouldn’t try and sleep with his wife and so on and so forth. This is God’s definition of love and it is perfect in its ways. So if you say that you know God, but you don’t keep his commandments, lets see what the Lord had specially written for you. (See exodus 20: 1-17)

Then you post the animal sacrificial law in Romans 7: 4-6 Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye should be married to another, even to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God. 5 For when we were in the flesh, the motions of sins, which were by the law, did work in our members to bring forth fruit unto death. 6 But now we are delivered from the law, that being dead wherein we were held; that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter.

What law? Not the commandments, so Paul must be talking about another law. Paul explained this in; (Heb.10:1, 9-10,18,26-27) (v.1) For the law (what law, the law of animal sacrifice?) having a shadow of good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto perfect. (v.9) Then said he, (Jesus) Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. He taketh away the first that he may establish the second. (v.10) By which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. When Jesus died on the cross that was the end of the first covenant, which consisted of the blood of animals and the keeping of God’s commandments. And his death also brought in the second covenant, which consist of the blood of Jesus and the keeping of God’s commandments. (v.18) Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin. In other words, no more animals are going to die for your sins. (v.26) For if we sin willfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins.

Now do we understand what’s being said here? If you sin willfully after you have knowledge of what the truth is, no more animals are going to die for you. (v.27) But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries. Now if you are being deceived into believing that once you are under God’s grace you no longer have to keep his commandments, all you have to look forward to is the Day of Judgment and the lake of fire (fiery indignation).

So you're saying it is OK to steal and kill and to commit adultery and to bare false witness, etc...those things that you're saying that we have to separate from, and it's OK to do those things, because we don't have to keep the law. You say it causes division, because we under grace. But, Paul say in Romans 6:1 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? NO, we should not sin! Because people who read and understand the word of God knows that Paul say in Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

But Notice what Paul says in the next verse in Roman 7: (v.7) What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid. Nay, I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust, except the law had said, THOU SHALT NOT COVET. Paul asked a question, is the law sin? He said God forbid, he said the only way that he knew what sin was, was by the law. (v.12) Wherefore the law is holy, and the commandment holy, and just, and good. Why in the world would a Christian want to do away with something that God said is holy.

Two different laws in the same chapter and you didn't see that...Romans 7: 6, 7

You cannot worship other days that’s not written in the Bible to do, and then use the Bible to justify it.
If they are not written in the Bible to do, I would not be able to justify it with the Bible.

And yet, I can justify Sunday worship with the Bible.

1) Jesus rose from the dead on the first day of the week.

2) When Paul preached in the situation with Eutychus in the book of Acts, it was on a Sunday night, on the first day of the week (Acts 20:7).

And you thought love was kissing and hugging and rolling around in bed.
I am very far removed from such an ideology as I have been a believer for quite some time now.

What law? Not the commandments,
Yes, the commandments.

So you're saying it is OK to steal and kill and to commit adultery and to bare false witness, etc...those things that you're saying that we have to separate from, and it's OK to do those things, because we don't have to keep the law.
Not that it is okay. It is very much not okay. But that the one who is truly born again (and is therefore inclined towards righteous living) is forgiven of past, present, and future sin (Romans 4:7-8, Romans 8:38-39, Hebrews 9:12) and is therefore not condemned by the law.

Is there then no motivation for keeping the law? There is a motivation...the Holy Ghost who dwells within us and has shed abroad His love in our hearts (Romans 5:5). We obey the ten commandments because of this love (Romans 13:8-10), (while the sabbath day is not a matter of a specific day but is fulfilled in the concept of what Jesus said in Matthew 11:28-30) and can be fulfilled on any day of the week that you may have to rest. As that is the spirit of what is written and not the letter (Romans 7:6).

But, Paul say in Romans 6:1 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? NO, we should not sin!
And yet, if we did, the verse is saying that grace would indeed abound.

By all means give us your take on what the law of liberty is.

I have given a changed point of view on the subject in a post above (#379, https://christianchat.com/threads/our-new-relationship-to-the-law.201671/post-4675373).
Give us? How many are you?

Romans 8:2-8
2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.

3 For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:

4 That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

5 For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.

6 For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.

7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.

8 So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.

The bolded, above, is the Perfect Law of Liberty.

2 Corinthians 3:6-9
6 Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life.

7 But if the ministration of death, written and engraven in stones, was glorious, so that the children of Israel could not stedfastly behold the face of Moses for the glory of his countenance; which glory was to be done away:

8 How shall not the ministration of the spirit be rather glorious?

9 For if the ministration of condemnation be glory, much more doth the ministration of righteousness exceed in glory.

The ministration of the New Testament which is the Ministration of the Spirit and the Ministration of Righteousness is the Perfect Law of Liberty.

Which sets us free from the Ministration of Sin and Death and Condemnation.
