Regarding the Title of this OP:

Yeah, it is about time he/the Federal Government put the screws to the people! I mean, after all, it's not like we live in a Democratic Republic that has a Constitution an such, huh?

I thought we did away with putting screws to people or even using the rack, for one they are considered to be torture. But the other reason is that it is labor intensive, takes a lot of labor per person being tortured. If you want people to be valuable slaves if they crumpled before you then you don't want them to be crippled. No, the guillotine is the most efficient, you give them a choice worship the Beast or the Lord, make them make that choice while seeing the guillotine. If they still insist on worshipping the Lord then why waste time and labor, chop off the head and move on.

I know Germany experimented with using gas chambers but what Satan really wants is for you to renounce your faith, just killing you doesn't accomplish anything.

Research community has a unique agenda. Their agenda is science. This magazine a non-profit organization for the promotion of science...real science.
They don't really have a political party bias. They have been fairly equally disparaging of ALL political parties.
From what I've seen is that conservatives don't fund research, liberals misuse research and big pharma tries to get away with poor performing medicines being approved.

I've seen all of those sentiments reflected in the articles posted there and by many of the commenters on those articles by the members of the research community. (Non members also can comment but they are obvious in having no competency)

Deduce what you will from that.

Do they really have a unique agenda? If you were honest then you would admit that most people (including scientist) agenda/motivation are mainly financial in nature. So the bigger the paycheck the more the potential there is to stretch the truth, or out & out lie. And a little fame along with that money doesn't hurt either. So this would mean you're believing maybe 2/3 of humanity are about to die?
