When diners correctly imbibe Jesus' blood, and correctly consume his flesh,
they obtain eternal life.

John 6:54 . .Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life

Apparently all the other forms of life aren't life at all; quite the opposite,
they're death, i.e. people infected with death are quite literally dead men
walking.

John 6:53 . . I tell you the truth: unless you eat the flesh of the Son of
Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you.

According to 1John 1:1-2, eternal life is the kind of life that sustains God's
existence; ergo: eternal life always was, it always is, and it always will be
because eternal life is impervious to extinction, i.e. it cannot get old, it
cannot wear out, it cannot wear off, it cannot die, and it never needs to be
replenished because eternal life is self-sustaining..

Those being the characteristics of eternal life, then when people obtain it by
correctly imbibing Jesus' blood, and correctly consuming his flesh, they
never need to obtain it again-- that one time is good for all time.

John 10:27-28 . . My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they
follow me: and I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish

Obviously then, the Eucharist doesn't give people eternal life because if it
did, then the people wouldn't have to keep coming back for more of it.

FYI I was asked to be one :) there is not an application for it.
I wasn't being serious. I neither have the time nor the interest to moderate a place like this.

The Catholic mass is a cannibalistic ritual.

Honestly, I can't imagine how the above can be taken any other way than
cannibalism.

John 6:52 . . The Jews therefore strove among themselves, saying: How
can this man give us his flesh to eat?

That's a good question, and considering the gravity of this matter; deserves
an explanation.

We forget that minute by minute we have a choice to listen to the God within or listen to the demons who operate the fleshly world. We must choose to listen to the world to decide our behaviors or to listen to the Lord with absolute faith in Him. What the world teaches and what our Lord teaches are very different. If no one can see the difference in us we need to question who we listen to.
hey Blik ~ it's not all about God and the devil pulling us in different directions. we are very culpable for our own sin as the Bible clearly explains

13When tempted, no one should say, “God is tempting me.” For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He tempt anyone. 14But each one is tempted when by his own evil desires he is lured away and enticed. 15Then after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death. James 1

well whoops

Hi surfer,

I think you are referring to John 6:53-57.

52 Then the Jews began to argue sharply among themselves, “How can this man give us his flesh to eat?”

53 Jesus said to them, “Very truly I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. 54 Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day. 55 For my flesh is real food and my blood is real drink. 56 Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in them. 57 Just as the living Father sent me and I live because of the Father, so the one who feeds on me will live because of me. 58 This is the bread that came down from heaven. Your ancestors ate manna and died, but whoever feeds on this bread will live forever.” - John 6:53-58.

At the beginning of the chapter we have the feeding of the 5 thousand.. the same crowds (vv24-25) where looking for another physical meal (V27)

Here Jesus is referring to Spiritual food. We can see this further down in ch6:" The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you—they are full of the Spirit and life ". The manna prefigured the true bread from heaven, the bread that if you eat it (figuratively) you will live forever (V58).

You asked " If Jesus just meant it as symbolism, then why did so many leave Him? If it was a misunderstanding, then why would Jesus allow so many people to depart from the way over a big misunderstanding? ".

The answer to this is found in the text itself, particularly in V64 -65.

Aware that his disciples were grumbling about this, Jesus said to them, “Does this offend you? 62 Then what if you see the Son of Man ascend to where he was before! 63 The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you—they are full of the Spirit and life. 64 Yet there are some of you who do not believe.” For Jesus had known from the beginning which of them did not believe and who would betray him. 65 He went on to say, “This is why I told you that no one can come to me unless the Father has enabled them.”

It's a hard teaching because it's a spiritual teaching (V58), the unregenerate man cannot understand spiritual things: "The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit - 1 Corinthians 2:14 NIV."

So when it comes to the Lords supper/Eucharist the same principle applies it has a spiritual meaning it is symbolic of the life giving faith we have in Christ, and his finished work.

This is the bread that came down from heaven. Your ancestors ate manna and died, but whoever feeds on this bread will live forever.” - John 6:58.
When I read it, it very much sounds like the people thought Jesus was talking about actual flesh and blood. They then left Him. and Jesus did not go and say anything like "Hey guys, I meant it as symbolism only. Don't leave!" Why would Jesus allow someone to reject Him and therefore go to hell based on an honest misunderstanding? That almost strikes me as Calvinistic.

Let me ask you this: If you somehow found out that the Catholic Eucharist was indeed the actual body and blood of Jesus, would you eat it?

Eat my flesh drink my blood is not something that is done even spiritually.
Actually Its Jesus who tells you to do it.
However, as my Thread teaches, the DOING is by FAITH.
That is how you "eat and drink" the Savior.

I think I'm onboard with what you are saying. But it does sound a little like the doctrine of sinless perfectionism. Which is different than saying we have the power to deny sin.
If we are "made righteous" and we are "in Christ".........and as John teaches.....>"As Jesus is, so are the born again in this world"........

So, is there any sin in Christ?

So why the confusion about it?

Well, its because most believers are taught badly, and are not familiar with Paul's doctrine. Most believers belong to a religious club that isn't really connected to the NT, but it pretends to be.
So....
Here is the disconnect.....its not understanding this.......
God gives birth to our SPIRIT.......not to our body or our mind......only the Spirit is born again.
We get a new body.... later, as this one is "dead because of sin" and we are to renew our minds so that our minds learn to do something.
And until that is accomplished, a believer has no real idea what has happened to them, and that is why they can't accept so many things that are TRUE., and in this ignorance regarding the spiritual realm where they exist in the Kingdom of God, they have no idea what is going on.

Here is the renewed mind.....= "your born again spirit is the REAL YOU"......not your body, and not your mind.
So, when we talk about sinless and made righteous and having become the righteousness of God, in Christ, then we are talking about the eternal transformation that has happened to our SPIRIT, that has become born again.
This is the real us........and this is part God has redeemed with the blood of Jesus. So, when a believer wrongly thinks of themselves as the body and the mind and as a "saved sinner", then they do not understand who they have become as "a new Creation" In Christ"
