Jesus said, "Do not hold on to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father. Go instead to my brothers and tell them, 'I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.'"

To paraphrase Jesus, "But wait... there's more... For the same price paid, you don't get just One... but Three!" Just like He, then later, told his brothers.

I believe Jesus is alluding to the fact He must leave, therefore, don't hold on to Him. If He stays then He won't send the Holy Spirit.

John 16:5-11
5But now I go my way to him that sent me; and none of you asketh me, Whither goest thou? 6But because I have said these things unto you, sorrow hath filled your heart. 7Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you. 8And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: 9Of sin, because they believe not on me; 10Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more; 11Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.

This seems to tie into Jesus role as the High Priest, where He ascends into the heavenly tabernacle not made by hands?

Hebrews 9:12 King James Version
12 Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.

Hebrews 9:24 King James Version
24 For Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands, which are the figures of the true; but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us:

Hebrews 9:16-23 King James Version
16 For where a testament is, there must also of necessity be the death of the testator.
17 For a testament is of force after men are dead: otherwise it is of no strength at all while the testator liveth.
18 Whereupon neither the first testament was dedicated without blood.
19 For when Moses had spoken every precept to all the people according to the law, he took the blood of calves and of goats, with water, and scarlet wool, and hyssop, and sprinkled both the book, and all the people,
20 Saying, This is the blood of the testament which God hath enjoined unto you.
21 Moreover he sprinkled with blood both the tabernacle, and all the vessels of the ministry.
22 And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.
23 It was therefore necessary that the patterns of things in the heavens should be purified with these; but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these.

IMO,he was not talking about the physical touch but he was meaning dont act like you are losing someone but know that GOD IS a SPIRIT and those who worship HIM must worship HIM In Spirit and In TRUTH.

John 6:61-64
King James Version

61 When Jesus knew in himself that his disciples murmured at it, he said unto them, Doth this offend you?

62 [What] and if ye shall see the Son of man ascend up where he was before?

63 It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, [they] are spirit, and [they] are life.

64 But there are some of you that believe not. For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were that believed not, and who should betray him.

Where did Jesus say that?

What do you mean by 'send' the Holy Spirit? I can't find anything rearding the Holy Spirit in my Bible, unfortunately.

Sorry, I should have cited more scripture to elaborate.

The Comforter mentioned in John 16:5-16 is the Holy Spirit according to John 14:26. I am using the KJV where the Holy Spirit is sometimes referred to as the Holy Ghost:

John 14:26
26But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

Jesus said, "Do not hold on to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father. Go instead to my brothers and tell them, 'I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.'"
The translation you have used does not present what was actually said, and in fact distorts the words of Christ: Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God. (KJV)

We are not given the reason why Christ told Mary not to touch Him, but there must have been a very good reason. Later on (after 8 days) Thomas would touch Jesus.

However there is no question that following His resurrection, Christ would first ascend to God the Father for two reasons: (1) in order to sprinkle His shed blood on the Mercy Seat in the Heavenly Sanctuary, as our Great High Priest, and (2) to take all the OT saints from Hades to the New Jerusalem which would mean that the gates of Hades (not Hell) could not prevail against the Church of Christ. After the resurrection, every believer goes straight to Heaven upon his or her demise.

After that Christ would descend back to earth to show His disciples that He was indeed alive with many infallible proofs, and also to spend forty days on earth with them, teaching them all that they needed to be taught before His final ascension, and preparing them to fulfil the Great Commission.

Jesus said this about faith,
Strong faith doesn't need to touch or hold on him.
see John 20:25-29 ,
if she don't believe in Jesus, how about Jesus say" Go instead to my brothers and tell them 'I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.' "
see John 20:18

Do you ever allow for other translations? Have you read the Word in more than one language. Other versions than one. I have read both interpretations..................Allow for others to read as they will and understand by the Holy Spiirit. The words may differ, but then the Holy Spirit may explain both quite well.

The Holy Spirit is the Authority..

This is a very simple passage that's part of a bigger story. Jesus was on bit of a road trip. He'd just gotten out of hell after defeating death and he was on his way to glory and to meet his father, God the creator.

He's saying to Mary Magdalene, 'I know you're delighted I'm here again, but I've still got things to do, (go see Dad) and oh, by the way go let the Apostles know I'm baaaack!'

Jesus said, "Do not hold on to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father. Go instead to my brothers and tell them, 'I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.'"
This is the underlying Greek word that is translated as, “touch” or, “hold on to.” As you can see, its meaning is nuanced;

680. ἁˊπτομαι háptomai; fut. hápsomai, mid. deponent from háptō (681), to connect, bind. To apply oneself to, to touch. Refers to such handling of an object as to exert a modifying influence upon it or upon oneself. The same effect may be conveyed by the verb thiggánō (2345). These words sometimes may be exchanged one for the other (e.g., Sept.: Ex 19:12). Both words are used together in Col 2:21. Háptomai is usually stronger than thiggánō (1Jn 5:18; Sept.: Ps 104:15). Thiggánō is correctly translated in Col 2:21 as "handle not," but the basic meaning is touching for the purpose of manipulating. Distinguished from psēla-pháō (5584), which actually only means to touch the surface of something

Jesus said, "Do not hold on to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father. Go instead to my brothers and tell them, 'I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.'"
Let's start with the correct wording...
17 Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God.

Jesus had not yet ascended. He has not yet offered His blood as a sacrifice on the mercy seat in heaven, Hebrews 9:12. Mary was corrupt, a sinner. By touching Jesus before that sacrifice was made, she would have corrupted the sacrifice.

Later that same day and after Jesus had ascended to offer His blood as a sacrifice, He appeared to His disciples and they were allowed to touch Him.

Ya - similar to the way Jesus's legs were not broken by the Romans according to custom.

I thought this was after Jesus had risen.............when He said touch Me not. for I am not yet glorified. That process lasted forty days until He ascended.

Maybe I’m a bit too cautious, but something smells in Denmark with this poster. Haven’t put my finger on it just yet.

Hebrew roots perhaps.

Maybe anti- Trinitarian.
