Esther 1:10 On the seventh day, when the heart of the king was merry with wine, he commanded Mehuman, Biztha, Harbona, Bigtha, and Abagtha, Zethar, and Carcas, the seven chamberlains that served in the presence of Ahasuerus the king,
11 To bring Vashti the queen before the king with the crown royal, to shew the people and the princes her beauty: for she was fair to look on.
This is cut and pasted directly from the KJV.
My inquiry is, has everyone heard that apparently the King summoned Vashti the queen to dance naked before everyone? And that when she disobeyed this lewd command, she was put to death. Because I have heard this from angry feminist websites, from Jewish theologians and scholars and I don't see that in the scriptures.
This cited KJV source is from the Jewish Hebrew Bible. What on earth is the source of this other information? Is it valid? Are there historical ancient scribblings about it somewhere? Can we trust Jewish scholars and historians to understand their own scriptures?
1. There is no dignity (let alone royal dignity) in nudity or nakedness. (I hope this lewd version is false.)
2. It defies reason that a king would command such a thing of his queen, let alone his wife even if he is "merry with wine."
I get there was merriment and imbibing involved, but the scriptures point out that not everyone was drinking, but all were merry. So, I don't get the impression it was a drunken orgy.
