Paul said in his day was the remnant. The apostolic church was the remnant
Zechariah 13. also says "I will strike the Shepherd and the sheep will be scattered" Jesus quoted this scripture and said it was fulfilled.
Look now at Zech. 14.
It says "In the last days" ... ah ... the nations shall come up against Jerusalem and God will go forward like He did in olden times and battle against the nations.
God cannot both be scattering and gathering, punishing and defending. So these prophecies belong to different times.
