Believers don’t get a free pass either brother . Salvation was pie for at the highest of all Prices.
“Then saith he unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death: tarry ye here, and watch with me.
And he went a little further, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.
He went away again the second time, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if this cup may not pass away from me, except I drink it, thy will be done.”
Matthew 26:38-39, 42 KJV
our salvation comes because of the sorrow , shame , false accusations , mockery , beatings , humiliations , suffering and eventual agonizing death of Jesus Christ. We were bought with that price
“What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.”
1 Corinthians 6:19-20
“And they laid their hands on him, and took him.....
...And they all forsook him, and fled.”
Mark 14:46,
“And the chief priests and all the council sought for witness against Jesus to put him to death; and found none.”
Mark 14:
“Then the high priest rent his clothes, saying, He hath spoken blasphemy; what further need have we of witnesses? behold, now ye have heard his blasphemy. What think ye? They answered and said, He is guilty of death.
Then did they spit in his face, and buffeted him; and others smote him with the palms of their hands,
Saying, Prophesy unto us, thou Christ, Who is he that smote thee?”
Matthew 26:65-68
“And straightway in the morning the chief priests held a consultation with the elders and scribes and the whole council, and bound Jesus, and carried him away, and delivered him to Pilate.
And the chief priests accused him of many things: but he answered nothing.
...And they cried out again, Crucify him.
Then Pilate said unto them, Why, what evil hath he done?
And they cried out the more exceedingly, Crucify him.
And so Pilate, willing to content the people, released Barabbas unto them, and delivered Jesus, when he had scourged him, to be crucified.
And the soldiers led him away into the hall, called Praetorium; and they call together the whole band. And they clothed him with purple, and platted a crown of thorns, and put it about his head,
And began to salute him, Hail, King of the Jews! And they smote him on the head with a reed, and did spit upon him, and bowing their knees worshipped him. And when they had mocked him,
they took off the purple from him, and put his own clothes on him, and led him out to crucify him.”
Mark 15:1, 3, 13-20
of course we understand he endured even more but the point is salvation is not a free pass for anyone . We belong to Jesus now because he suffered and died on our behalf in order to redeem us from sin and death .
salvation is an expensive treasure that God is freely offering those who will believe the gospel. Believing the gospel leads to understanding the cost of salvation
“And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.
For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: but whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it.
For what is a man advantaged, if he gain the whole world, and lose himself, or be cast away?
For whosoever shall be ashamed of me and of my words, of him shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he shall come in his own glory, and in his Father's, and of the holy angels.”
Luke 9:23-26 KJV
the use of the term soul is found in Matthews account
“Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.
For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it.
For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?
For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works.”
Matthew 16:24-27
salvation costs our worldly life as we live for this world and ourselves we must begin to lay that down and love for the gospel that’s when we find our lives
what I’m saying is it’s not free it’s freely offered if we believe but it costs a lot first Jesus gave all and then we must repent and believe which leads us laying our selves down and taking up our cross to reach this place
“And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.”
Galatians 5:24
