I would like to see those who have well-thought-out Biblical questions that they do not understand or do not agree with..

  1. Please submit the Bible verse or verses
  2. ask your question
  3. why you agree or disagree with the position you have applied from the verses
  4. support with the Bible why you agree or disagree

Thank you,

Matthew 18:20:

Where two or three are gathered in my name, there I am in the midst of them.

This is often used to say Jesus is in the midst of two or three Christian's gathered for ANY purpose.

I disagree with this though because the context is primarily about resolving sin issues between Christians in a local church setting.

Wut? You mean if two or three Christians gather at Pizza Hut and say a blessing over their food asking God to bless that food and they ask in the name of Jesus; He will not be there with them?

One witness shall not rise up against a man for any iniquity, or for any sin, in any sin that he sinneth: at the mouth of two witnesses, or at the mouth of three witnesses, shall the matter be established. Deut.19:15

No Holy Spirit at the time of Matthew 18. For those of us in Christ, the Lord is always with us whether alone or with others.

I'm glad you brought this up. Because Jesus was indeed talking about dealing with sin. If you notice he qualified by saying Gathered in MY name. Not just any time a couple of church mates happen to be at the breakfast buffet. I also want to bring us to the next point where Jesus said if we agree on anything it is done in heaven. I think we over look the very powerful gift that Jesus has given us. The ability to in his name forgive sins. This is a holy thing, that Jesus told us to forgive sins, and that if we forgive it he also forgives it. He reinforces this before the Ascension, when he said, Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I am sending you.” And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you withhold forgiveness from any, it is withheld.”

Jesus is always with us, but follow the context and purpose of the statement,
When two or three are gathered in my name, the rest of the context is authority to deal with sin. The point is gathered in his name for the purpose of exercising Kingdom authority.

I agree with the first question, infact I hate this postmodernist view of that which is Holy.
The context of that passage is men of God gathered to bring restoration to an errant brother, which is the most sacred and holy thing we can do. We by decree of Jesus shelf wield kingdom authority to forgive sins in Jesus name. This is not a common thing it is Holy and should be treated as such.

He told ' them ' .This is what keeps being overlooked time and time again .

Jesus said he does not testify of him self but of the one who sent him.
As 2 or three gather in his name ( to do the lord's bidding) what is said and done is witnessed by the one who sent you. It is witnessed in the book of works.
No one could ever say " I did not hear" I was never told.
God's word is always witnessed. That is the purpose of the books.
We do not testify of ourselves but of the one that was, the one that is, and the one to come.

He told them this as he was turning over his earthly ministry to them.
I find it quite irreconcilable that some believe in healing but not what Jesus said about it. Namely what is easier to say healed or forgiven.
Also what the Apostles taught the church, call confess your faults one to another, and also if there are any sick among you bring them to the elders of the church who will annoint with oil and lay hands on them and the prayer of faith will heal the sick, and their sins will be forgiven them. Also in the Epistles if you have an errant brother restore him with gentleness, and if anyone brings a brother back from sin saves his soul.

maybe the pizza gathering was to reconcile the errant brother?

I do use pizza as rewards for children reading books. Only because it is given free when children have read seven of them....

Definitely the 12 and what they did is for us to understand. But i find it odd how Christians today think they are one of the 12 lol

The 12 gave instruction to the church. We are the church there after.
