Everyone should delete Facebook/Facebook Messenger/Whatsapp, or deactivate them until a better option is found to transfer your contacts (quickly) and then delete. Facebook Messenger is the largest distributor of child porn.

That’s quite a disturbing statement. I would like to make others aware of this if it is true. Can I ask what the sources are for this Information please.

"Of the 18.4 million reports of child sexual abuse worldwide in 2018, a staggering 12 million trace back to Facebook Messenger."

I've deleted and reactivated my account a number of times. The only reason last time was to have a page for my computer services side business that I do. And I also use it for the marketplace to buy second hand goods when needed. Other than that, not interested and really can't stand it.

I've also really limited its reach on what it knows what I do on the internet (as far as I'm aware) you can make it so that it doesn't track you outside of FB but FB doesn't advertise those options, and makes it difficult to find but it's there.

Does anybody still use msn messenger?
I remember years back people used to be on one called ICQ.

If anybody knows a better app please share it. Google hangouts never really took off, and zoom also has its problems.
Facetime is ok with one person but tends to be glitchy in groups.

If gmail had a better message chat system I would use it.

There was one called slack, and another called yammer that some workplaces used.
But I dont know if those ones are still functioning. You need to invite your group of friends to use it.

whats app kept crashing in my phone so and I didnt update it.
Mostly I just use txt msg to keep in touch with people. You do pay, but at least theres not the constant barrage of advertising.

Good thing about CC, no ads..and the moderators are fair, consistent and arent bullies, unlike many other forums where hell just breaks loose all the time. You dont need all that drama. in your life serious,y just because of some silly disagreement or argument over which Bible is better or who gets to be pastor or what not!

I use facebook for family and very close friends. If I see something that I am not interested in I scroll by it or delete it from my timeline all together. There is also an option to not have it reappear.
My Pastor uses it for virtual services, bible study etc. I also view other ministries via facebook. It is what you make of it. Oh and I think my total number of friends is 60. I don't need hundreds. Once a person has an account they agree with the terms of service. Everything isn't for everybody, how I have been conducting myself, what I allow on my timeline and who I allow as friends on Facebook has helped it work for me.

Oh, and I don't have a twitter, Instagram, whatsApp or anything else. There is something I just heard of called Clubhouse (I think). I don't know what that is.

It’s the usual fuss about Facebook skimming data and selling It. I don’t understand why everyone is in a flap, they always do it on fb and off it too... It’s hardly a new thing.

personally I kind of like having different believers Input in my life so I am pretty Thankful for it. Facebook started the same way, it just depends what we want to invest our support and time and energies into. Facebook has plus points for sure, but I get a lot from this site and the 101 network site that I don’t get on fb. :)
Do you know of good Christian groups on Facebook?

There are definitely some dedicated/sincere Christian groups on there.

I suppose it depends what you class as a good Christian. Some feel only reformers are “good” for example, and some feel only their denomination follows the narrow way etc. and don’t tolerate other denominations well.

I Certainly found Christians I could connect with in the mix, but I do tend to avoid the Groups that hold to the labels as it can get a bit ...insular ... sometimes. That’s just me though :)

I am in the process of deleting my account because of the child abuse fb facilitates, ( not happy with what they do with our data).

I deleted Instagram and whattsapp already - and I did some research when Indian girl gave some stats I hadn’t heard before.

It was quite shocking. 94% is More than shocking on the sky news report I dug up, worse Even than the sources TheIndianGirl had provided. I think that is much more than turning a blind eye or giving people the benefit of the doubt. I honestly had no idea! https://news.sky.com/story/facebook...use-images-reported-by-us-tech-firms-12101357

I do have a dilemma Though, as I am currently an involved admin on an abuse support group on fb - one of our main principles is we need to ensure we ourselves are not being unwitting facilitators of abuse, such as in a church or group Situation For example....Turning a blind eye for convenience or not believing victims and following up on accusations and so on.

Given that we are on there to help victims and hope to stem the tide of abuse Even just a little - it Seems very hypocritical of us to keep the group on fb now, I will be talking to the other admins and see if we can have the support group Moved.

Long waffle answer there sorry. I only know of 101socialnetwork.com and here at the moment to recommend as Christian social sites. Anyone else know of any?

I deleted the FB app and have been happy since.
The reason being is that I stopped seeing things that I wanted and needed to see about the family and friends and all the stuff I didn't want to see was all that was left in my feed...
Wifey said that I have to constantly adjust some sort of setting somewhere.
YUCK.
Not in my wheelhouse of something I want to mess with.
So I dumpstered the thing and have had a pleasant life since that time.

Then some people have been discussing "information bubbles" created by the AI on these sites that are designed to addict you to the feed.

They say things like "If a service is free then YOU are the product they are selling"
And I'm not for sale. Not even to my favorite things.

So I dumpstered it and not really looking to go back... especially since they are now marginalizing so many people...as if they are a defective product made by the billions in a PRC factory by prison labor that costs nothing.

Also it's a memory hog in my phone...it uses a disproportionate amount of available memory.

I dont use fb on phone or ipad or at work.
the thing with fb is it really wants to pull all your data. I dont post pics on there to share with everyone, especially with people on it unless its a closed group.

I just feel abit uncomfortable if people take pics of me, then share them without my permission. or even if they do.
They might have said is it ok to take a pic of you, but it might not be a good pic, and then once youve put it on a newsfeed or something it can go anywhere.

Mums tend to do that with their children and yea its cute, but I think with child perverts hanging round online you cant be too careful. If your child is say extremely photogenic they may become a target.
I dont know if instagrammers and pinterest have the same issues.

if you do dump it you can always keep in touch with people by email or txt. Theres probably a better group chat being dveloped aside from zoom, though nobodys really shared anything better. CC i just use the forums not the chat. I dont think it has video capabilities.
