And do we not have a choice in the matter? Are we not allowed to choose the Lord?
It's your choice, you have free will - our choices of free will for good or evil, all happens within the almighty will of God, determined before the foundation of the world. God has sovereignty. Even all Job's trials and tribulations, as inflicted by Satan, was just as much that God had allowed beforehand, and God knew his servant Job, and what the outcome of his trials and tribulations would be.
Job 1 (ESV)
8 And the Lord said to Satan, "Have you considered my servant Job, that there is none like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, who fears God and turns away from evil?"
9 Then Satan answered the Lord and said, "Does Job fear God for no reason?
10 Have you not put a hedge around him and his house and all that he has, on every side? You have blessed the work of his hands, and his possessions have increased in the land.
11 But stretch out your hand and touch all that he has, and he will curse you to your face."
12 And the Lord said to Satan, "Behold,
all that he has is in your hand. Only against him do not stretch out your hand." So Satan went out from the presence of the Lord.
Job 38 (ESV)
4 "Where were you when
I laid the foundation of the earth? Tell me, if you have understanding.
5 Who determined its measurements—surely you know! Or who stretched the line upon it?
15 From the wicked their light is withheld, and their uplifted arm is broken.
Job 40 (ESV)
8 Will you even put me in the wrong? Will you condemn me that you may be in the right?
Job 42 (ESV)
2 "
I know that you can do all things, and that
no purpose of yours can be thwarted. 3 'Who is this that hides counsel without knowledge?' Therefore
I have uttered what I did not understand, things too wonderful for me, which I did not know.
12 And
the Lord blessed the latter days of Job more than his beginning.
