[Apologies if this is mentioned in another post - I couldn't find it, if it is]
Sinning against the holy spirit is mentioned in the Synoptic gospels
"And whosoever shall speak a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but unto him that blasphemeth against the Holy Ghost it shall not be forgiven."
Luke 12:10 KJ
"But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost hath never forgiveness, but is in danger of eternal damnation"
Mark 3:29 KJ
"Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men.
And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come."
Matthew 12:31-32 KJ
Its an unforgiveable sin; over the years I've heard very different interpretations of this. Given the high stakes as its on unforgiveable sin I'm surprised I haven't heard more reference to these passages in sermons.
I'm curious what do you believe is sinning against the holy spirit? and could you give an example?
thank you

there are some very important things to remember about this egregious sin.
- Jesus is the only one in scripture who used the term
- Jesus said this after those Pharisees said Jesus cast out the devil by the power of the devil.
- the context of the sin is attributing the work of the Holy Spirit with the devil or a devil.
Note: Notice Jesus did not have an issue with calling the Pharisees Hypocrites in Matthew 23 Repeatedly.
Yet here Jesus did not say you have blasphemy the Holy Spirit but spoke to what it is. Speaking ill-manner of the Holy Spirit.
many have used this sin to control and bring condemnation on others who suffer from doing what they think has been the Unforgivable sin. This is a terrible thing. Those who have done such things will answer to the living God.
How can one know they have NOT blasphemed the Holy Spirit>?
- You would not have any guilt or feeling of sorrow because you thought you have done so.
- You would have fully known what you were doing, this is a sin of knowledge can't be done in ignorance
- IF you were under the influence of drugs or alcohol. and said things unwearyingly
- IF your pastor told you "Leaving this Church" would be the unforgivable sin
- if you practice the occult or devil worship Before salvation
- That you were a former homosexual
Where the word of God is silent on a topic we are to remain silent.
Jesus responded to the Pharisees in context to what they said. it is reasonable to see that Blasphemy of the Holy Spirit is a sin of knowledge done directly to the very work of the Holy Spirit as being of the devil. Others have said refusing to get saved is an unforgivable sin. I think that is an opinion because Jesus did not speak as not doing so was Blasphemy of the Holy Spirit and In John chapter 3:18 Jesus said :
"Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God's one and only Son."
