Doesn't the one rescued have to a least accept the help offered in order to be saved?
I am thinking in terms of a lifesaver being thrown, while maybe you are proposing something different?

he has to do more than this really. I can accept an offer. but if my faith is not there. I will not do what needs to be done which is nothing
those are verses from the Bible i posted. thinking about and pondering what the Word of God says to us and/or could mean is not a foolish exercise (i don't think so anyways).?

If this is Prayer Week, why do we begin with a message on Psalm 1 that doesn't mention prayer, and focus our attention on the Word of God and not prayer? The central point of this psalm is made in verse 2: "But his delight is in the law of the LORD, and in His law he meditates day and night." The person who delights in God's law so much that he meditates on it day and night is delivered from the ways of the wicked and sinners and scoffers, and is made fruitful and durable and prosperous. That's the point. Delighting in the law of God is the central issue. So why begin Prayer Week with this psalm and this focus on delighting in the law of God? ...

The one who was saved did nothing, He could not do something, he was hopeless and at the complete mercy of the savior He had faith in the rescuer and just allowed the rescuer to save him.
The one who did not get saved. Did not really trust the rescuer, He still had faith he could save himself. And instead of allowing hte rescuer to save him, either told him to go away he did not need his help (unbelief) . Or realized he needed help. But still held on to hope he couple help himself (faith plus works) And sadly died before the rescuer could do anything to help him.

I see your post above. Good to know you do make a distinction between mere belief and faith
But the angels did have a choice. Satan's sin was one of pride, the same one he led Adam and Eve into.

In reality, what stems an EMOTION comes from the same source and from reaction to another is no difference with the exception of how we define each specific Emotion. Mentally, Love and Fear create the same amount endorphins as being Happy, Joyful, Scared, Sad, etc. When we react to something, we think it through immediately first and then it appears are reactions are correct.
But yes, of course, We love God for what He has done and is going to do. The Demons fear God for what they know He can do and is going to do.
I don't know the purpose of the rescuer so one can twist the hypothetical to suit ones purpose. So I don't think the illustration would add to the question at hand.
The question at hand in my opinion was if we do not achieve salvation by works then why is not everyone saved plus what is definition of work and by what authority is said definition posed?
Why would one accept if there was no faith, belief?

The purpose of the rescuer is to save that which is dead. Both people are prety much dead, if not rescued they will die
All men are basically dead, if they are not rescued. they will die dead, and suffer the second death.
I am answering you with the illustration. I am not sure why you are against it..
It's like me living in the Mountain Desert, I expect to see snakes so I am always looking to the ground when I walk around. And even though I am mentally focused on the snakes to suddenly appear, when they do, I still am immediately startled. Then from there, mentally it goes to does it have small head vs big head and how does their tail look like.

And that ^^^ scripture indicates that he was speaking to unbelievers, for:
John 6:30
[30] They said therefore unto him, What sign do you show then, that we may see, and believe you? what do you work?
Once converted the believer moves on to perform good works, being zealous for God. Not just the work of believing, that’s already been done.

I don't think the bible addresses the why some are saved and others are not. It addresses how....i.e. man does nothing (no effort on man's part) and other aspects of 'how'.
But I was interested in other opinions ...why some are saved and not others, assuming salvation is not by works (an effort on man's part)

Well, at least he brought something written down. Lot's of hypothesis going on, very little truth due to very little scripture. I wonder if The MESSage got it even worse though? For the record the NLT is a translation not a paraphrase, or, so they say.
YLT puts renders it properly, as do most other versions:

It is apparent that believing is the work of God in the believer, not the work, decisive ability, free willing of, choosing or ability of man. 2 Peter 2:1; Ephesians 1:19; Romans 10:17; John 1:13; Ephesians 1:11; Romans 8:5-8; John 6:63 also affirm these things.

Does God not choose to save some , He chose to save one by giving him faith , but not the other...

That is the solemn truth for sure. Difficult for many to digest, but true nonetheless.
