I have heard it said that faith is the instrument by which we accept what God has offered us![]()
I agree. Faith has to play into the equation if one agrees to accept.

No I disagree with this notion.Does God not choose to save some , He chose to save one by giving him faith , but not the other...

Wow, I never heard that verse that way. Hmmm...looked it up..its a paraphrase bible. Wow, you have brought a whole new dimension to the question. A bible contradicting another bible. I guess you have determine what is truth ...wow, that's a rabbit hole I don't wish to enter.
Wow
No I disagree with this notion.
God gave both people the same opportunity. One had faith. One did not have faith
He who believes has life he who does
Not believe shall not see life but the wrath of God abides In him
He who believes is not condemned he who does not believe is condemned already
The one who was saved had faith
The one who did not believe died
Not because god did
Not give them faith. But because they saw god (The rescuer) and did
Not believe him
I think the differences are not so deep but be Bible can lead another astray. With the exception of the not which is not a translation but a paraphrase. Which I would never recommend anyone use after we tried to use it in our church because soThere are a few more.
Won't go into then now.
But I hope you can see and I think you do that actually the Bible you read and a different one can mess with your head.
What we have is the textus receptus which we get the KJV and translation from Tyndale etc.
Then we have the Nestle-Aland-Walcott for the more modern translation that we have today.
I think it does.Hey Bill, nice to meet you.
I don't think the bible addresses the why some are saved and others are not. It addresses how....i.e. man does nothing (no effort on man's part) and other aspects of 'how'.
But I was interested in other opinions ...why some are saved and not others, assuming salvation is not by works (an effort on man's part)
No I disagree with this notion.

God claims he is a god of loveAgree.
Scripture is clear.
For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.
Romans 10:17
The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some men count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
2 Peter 3:9
Well,if God is the cause of your faith then it is not a work of man. If man is the cause of his faith it is man's work and therefore man is saved by works.John 3:16 ~ Place your faith in Jesus Christ and you will be saved.
Where does man get that faith? The Bible says we are saved by faith, if we have no faith then we are not saved.
Who is the "At least he brought something"
Well, at least he brought something written down. Lot's of hypothesis going on, very little truth due to very little scripture. I wonder if The MESSage got it even worse though? For the record the NLT is a translation not a paraphrase, or, so they say.
YLT puts renders it properly, as do most other versions:
Jesus answered and said to them, 'This is the work of God, that ye may believe in him whom He did send.'
It is apparent that believing is the work of God in the believer, not the work, decisive ability, free willing of, choosing or ability of man. 2 Peter 2:1; Ephesians 1:19; Romans 10:17; John 1:13; Ephesians 1:11; Romans 8:5-8; John 6:63 also affirm these things.![]()
You, you brought some Bible into the discussion. It was a compliment.Who is the "At least he brought something"
Ta,You, you brought some Bible into the discussion. It was a compliment.
YesBut is not our faith a gift from God?

God is the cause of our faithWell,if God is the cause of your faith then it is not a work of man. If man is the cause of his faith it is man's work and therefore man is saved by works.
Dictionary definition of work...an effect made for a purpose.
God claims he is a god of love
If god loves all people equally, why are some born blind, some never hear the word, some rich, some poor .....jacob I loved but Esau I hated. The empirical data refutes your claim. If he does not love all people equally. (As non believers) Well then his claim is false.
From God.Where does man get that faith?
How are you saved and another is not? The grace of God.
