So this verse gets used alot to say that willful sin after salvation can lead to Jesus' sacrifice no longer being effectual. Effectively saying the salvation is undone for the individual.

But what is the Hebrews 10 context?

I know a lot of Hebrews has sacrifice related to animal sacrifice .

I know the Hebrews, if they had sinned would have offered up an animal sacrifice to symbolize the forgiveness of sin.

So what is really going on with this verse?
"If we deliberately go on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no further sacrifice for sins remains, but only a fearful expectation of judgment and of raging fire that will consume all adversaries."

First of all, Hebrews is referring to Hebrew/Israelite Christians.

We are saved by grace through faith. Therefore, faith is what keeps connected to God's grace. If a believer goes back to willfully living according to the sinful nature, he has turned away from the faith, being in a state of apostasy. If a believer remains in and dies in that state, then there is nothing else that can save him/her. Consider the following:

"My brothers and sisters, if one of you should wander from the truth and someone should bring that person back, remember this: Whoever turns a sinner from the error of their way will save them from death and cover over a multitude of sins."

First of all, James it is apparent by the words "My brothers and sisters" it is obvious that James is writing to Christians. And if one of those believers should wander from the truth, notice that in that wandered state, that they are accumulating sin and because of willful sin, death. If someone should turn that believer back to walking in faith, then those sins that he/she was accumulating will be covered over and that person saved from condemnation.

In further support of a believer being able to loss their salvation, I would refer you to the unforgiving servant, especially the last verse. It demonstrates that after that servant was forgiven, because he did forgive his fellow servant, that his debt that was forgiven was reinstated, thus verse 35.

====================================================================================================

Because of this, the kingdom of heaven is like a king who wanted to settle accounts with his servants. 24As he began the settlements, a debtor was brought to him owing ten thousand talents. 25Since the man was unable to pay, the master ordered that he be sold to pay his debt, along with his wife and children and everything he owned.

26Then the servant fell on his knees before him. ‘Have patience with me,’ he begged, ‘and I will pay back everything.’

27His master had compassion on him, forgave his debt, and released him.

28But when that servant went out, he found one of his fellow servants who owed him a hundred denarii.g He grabbed him and began to choke him, saying, ‘Pay back what you owe me.’

29So his fellow servant fell down and begged him, ‘Have patience with me, and I will pay you back.’

30But he refused. Instead, he went and had the man thrown into prison until he could pay his debt.

31When his fellow servants saw what had happened, they were greatly distressed, and they went and recounted all of this to their master.

32Then the master summoned him and declared, ‘You wicked servant! I forgave all your debt because you begged me. 33Shouldn’t you have had mercy on your fellow servant, just as I had on you?’ 34In anger his master turned him over to the jailers to be tortured, until he should repay all that he owed.

35That is how My heavenly Father will treat each of you unless you forgive your brother from your heart.”

Yeah, I see it as either unsaved Hebrews trying to offer up animal sacrifices, but are trampling the Son of God under their feet because they know Jesus' words spoken to them but continue to treat His sacrifice as dung.

Or they could be Hebrew believers.... like Galatians and Romans where they are trying to go back to their traditions and animal sacrifice when they are under the New Covenant, trampling the Son of God under their feet by willingly counting what He has already done for them as worth nothing. Not losing salvation, but laying themselves open to God's punishment.

Still working on it :)
Why then the author states "we" ....wouldn't the author have stated "you?"

Keep it up brother. Believe me I'm still working on it too and have been for quite sometime. A very challenging book no doubt about that.

Congratulations to New Zealand. And never put your faith or trust in globalist institutions like the WHO.

You have to go outside Paul’s epistles to the body of Christ to find any appearance that one lost salvation.

Hi John!

My stand according to scripture, is that believers cannot just continue to live or go back to willfullly living according to the sinful nature as they did before they became believers. If 'Once saved, always saved' was true, then all of the warnings in scripture would be useless. The warnings and rebukes in the letters to the seven churches would be in vain.

Believers are saved by grace through faith. When one goes back into the world willfully living according to the sinful nature, they are no longer walking in Christ, they are no longer being transformed into His image, they are no longer watching and anticipating His return, they are no longer glorifying God. While in this wandered state, they are accumulating sin and on their way to death. Consider another example:

============================================================================
Who then is the faithful and wise servant, whom the master has put in charge of his household, to give the others their food at the proper time? 46Blessed is that servant whose master finds him doing so when he returns. 47Truly I tell you, he will put him in charge of all his possessions.

48But suppose that servant is wicked and says in his heart, ‘My master will be away a long time.’ 49And he begins to beat his fellow servants and to eat and drink with drunkards. 50The master of that servant will come on a day he does not expect and at an hour he does not anticipate. 51Then he will cut him to pieces and assign him a place with the hypocrites, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

The master = God

The servant = Believer

If that servant/believer begins to beat his fellow believers, to eat and drink with drunkards, i.e. goes back to living according to the sinful nature, then when the Lord appears like a thief in the night, he will do to that servant what is listed in verse 51, which to me does not sound like eternal life.

Once saved always saved is true if we continue in faith from beginning to end. No one should be found needing oil for their lamps when the Lord appears, which is watchful readiness.

There is no once you are committed to Christ and following him you can never change your mind and your status changes.

Yes, well I'm still looking into it, but am inclined to also say they are Hebrew believers. But I am also just considering what DC replied with. Anyhoo, maybe a little more to come.

This verse is even here being... anyway. Seems allot is being added to what is not written.

Like standing infront Christ.. and you know that you know why He came and died. You turn and keep on willingly sin.

The other .. what Heb 6? Even there Paul was talking to Jewish people that were saved but would sin and try to go offer something for that sin. He told them.. there is no more sacrifice for that sin. Can Christ die again? This puts Him to open shame.

And there is no condemnation to them that are in Christ Jesus. Jesus said.. He didn't come to condemn the world but to save it.

If this was anyone willingly sinning are lost.. then no one on this planet can be saved. What.. you only sin when your tempted? :) careful. The difference is.. they keep sinning.. and nothing. Where as you and me.. guilt.. condemnation.. we feel awful after words. Granted allot of those feelings are not of God. What makes you day vs night is.. you WANT to repent. They don't even give a thought.

No.. it is not proof you can lose you salvation. <--that is being added.

We know our SINS before the cross hurt Him.. what we think they don't now? Yeah.. those same sins hurt Him.

How about this.. for you and me.. this right now is the only hell we will ever see. For the lost.. this is the only heaven they will see. Maybe we need to work harder

A quote from John Bunyan's "Pilgrims Progress" gives a good reflection on it:

“Then I saw that there was a way to hell, even from the gates of heaven.”

Easy enough to understand to any common sensed thinking Christian!
