There is none that says people gave out the gifts or they came through prayer. It only shows the Apostles distributed them through their hands. Or through the two outpourings.
“And when Simon saw that through laying on of the apostles’ hands the Holy Ghost was given, he offered them money,” Acts 8:18 (KJV 1900)
Notice the scripture you quote. It clearly states that the Holy Ghost is what was given. Nothing about spiritual gifts

God confirms/establishes His principles by presenting them at least twice in the written word. (2 Cor 13:1, Deut 19:15, Matt 18:16) Applying this principle makes it clear exactly how one can expect to receive the Holy Ghost. It can be received spontaneously. (Acts 2:1, 10:44) It can be received after one filled with the Holy Ghost lays hands upon another individual. (Acts 8:17, 19:6) A person can also pray for and receive it. (Luke 11:13, Matt. 7:7-8)

God has not spoken to any person for 2000 years. He has already said everything He wanted to say and no more will be given to us in this life.
The canon of Scripture was closed when Jesus gave His revelation to John.

God's Word is alive and eternal, so we have the same gospel message as those in the first century. God's Word speaks to every believer, so in that sense He does still speak but only to believers.

We must be very careful with those who claim to have conversations with God, because Satan appears as an angel of light to deceive people.

If God did still speak to us, than Jesus would have told us that. But He said "it is finished", so if anyone needs to add to His finished work or looks for new revelation then they're being deceived by Demons.

Jesus didn't reveal everything in the last book of the Bible, He actually instructed John not to record everything that He revealed because we're not ready to handle the whole truth of revelation yet. Believers will be given a lot more revelation in the life to come.

As for correctly interpreting Scripture, that's not important at all. God doesn't judge anyone by their mental capacity, to interpret scriptures. The vast majority of saved people never read a single word of the Bible, we are saved by believing in Jesus and nothing else can be added to that.

Jesus said, "believe in Me and ye shall be saved" He never attached any conditions to it. If He said believe in me and if you crack the code of scripture and ye shall be saved, then we'd be looking at a different gospel.
Consider the following:

"And when they bring you unto the synagogues, and unto magistrates, and powers, take ye no thought how or what thing ye shall answer, or what ye shall say:
For the Holy Ghost shall teach you in the same hour what ye ought to say." Luke 12:11-12

Your idea that one need not correctly interpret scripture is a deadly deception. Jesus said that everyone will be judged by the word. (John 12:48)

“Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?” Matthew 7:22 (KJV 1900)

“And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.” Matthew 7:23 (KJV 1900)
Evidently those people believed they were accepted and used by God. But that doesn't mean it was a fact. As you note, Jesus responded "...I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity." (Matt 7:23) Workers of iniquity are sinners. They do not have the indwelling presence of God, and thus can not cast out demons. (Acts 19:14-16)

If demons could be easily cast out just by using Jesus' name, why did some require prayer and fasting? (Matt 17:21) Again, answer to prayer is only available to children of God. (John 9:31)

Wow! That verse kind of pits it in perspective, doesn't it.

What I stated was directly from the scripture. Paul laid hands upon the Ephesus disciples in order for them to receive the infilling of the Holy Ghost AFTER they believed and were re-baptized in water in the name of Jesus. (Acts 19:2-6) Please provide evidence from that account that says otherwise.
Yes it is any you missed the important part. After they believed not John's baptism but the gospel of Jesus Christ. They did not have a correct soteriology and therefore had no indwelling of the Holy Spirit until after they were preached to by Paul. Pretty much like your water baptism schism.

I see you haven't yet taken the time to study out the word definitions contained in that scripture.

It's rather comical that an individual would think women are not used in ministry by God. The most important message in the entire bible was carried to the disciples by a woman. Guess Jesus didn't get your memo.
Unsound doctrine knows no gender bias. You embarrass your husband by speaking in the manner of which you speak. Teaching to those having itching ears doctrine that leads away from Christ.

Roger,
Why do you have that saying attached to the bottom of your posts? What does it mean?

All you need to do is prove a third way the charismatic gifts of the Spirit came about. Scripture mentions only the Apostle's hands or the two out pourings.
One outpouring the unseen the work of the Holy Spirit. Not two or three, one God

To begin there is no such thing as "sign gifts". (Look I did it) The two words are not found used together in that way through the Bible. Rather we are warned of those who do makes sign and fall backward mocking God .He calls those who seek after signs an wonders; " a evil generation" no faith generated by the word of God alone (sola scriptura)

Scripture does not attribute power to the flesh of any person to include the corrupted flesh of a apostles.

There are Spiritual gifts not seen yes. They work in the believer

Scripture mentions hands as a metaphor. the will of God working pouring out the Spirit as the power gospel .

We are not to make men as gods in the likeness of man. Jesus reminds us of that over and over. Even his own corrupted flesh he reused to let stand in the Holy place of the father as a abomination of desolation. He said his flesh signified as sinful profits for nothing . It is a law not subject to change.

God is not a man

The new testament was written after Jesus said "It is finished".

Love in Jesus,
Kelby
The period of time when there were kings in Israel (abomination of desolation) came to a end when he said. . "it was finished" It then moved into the time period of the "last days" .The rest we have yoked with Christ that we can experience when we do not harden our new born again hearts.

It remains, the "signs and wonders" ended with the Apostles. Go heal some COVID 19 victims if they didn't. Many claim signs and wonders. But these are lying signs and wonders heard about but never seen.

Most people are honest enough to admit that they are (or at least were) "blind". In other words, we admit that we didn't know God, or had difficulty understanding what is really being said in the bible. And although perhaps embarrassed, we were humble enough to receive instruction from someone who is willing to guide us.

Then, at some point, we met someone who said "Hey, you need to know about God (or Jesus). Let me teach you."

And we said "Ok. That sounds good." And we began to let them lead us, or perhaps to take us to someone even more knowledgeable. And they began to teach us how to "see" certain scriptures.

However, there is a danger hidden within this scenario, and Jesus warns us about it. He said "If the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch".

The question becomes "Wow, that's a scary thought. How could I find out if the person that leads me is blind?"

Well, you could ask the person leading you how to recognize a "blind leader". And I almost guarantee that they will give you an answer that does not point at him or herself as a blind leader.

What most will do is to point you to the scriptures to find the answers....encouraging you to revisit the scriptures they've told you are the most important ones... and that they've been teaching you how to interpret. Please don't miss the importance of the previous sentence. They know what you will find if you look at the scriptures the way they have taught you.

Now you're left with a problem.... How can you know the TRUTH if you may have been taught to "see" by the blind?

If you look at the scriptures by the way you were taught, you will only find the answers you’ve been taught to find...“Seeing” the scriptures through the eyes of your leaders, whether they are blind or not.

If you try to look at the scriptures without what you’ve been taught, you’re only left with yourself...and you’ve already admitted that you were blind before learning from your leaders.

So what should you do about this problem?

Simple… When we can’t “see” and don’t know who to trust, we need to directly ask the only person we can truly trust (God) until he answers.

God cannot lie. And he will only speak truth...even about your leaders. If they are blind leaders, God would tell that truth to you if you ever gain the ability to hear from God directly...and THAT is the reason you are told that God no longer speaks.

Does God speak? Yes. He says “My sheep hear my voice”. And he cannot lie. <--that means he still speaks and at least some still hear..

So... Have you heard his voice? If not, you should be asking sincerely why not, and how you can. But I recommend that you ask the one you can trust, not the ones you should have asked about before trusting them with your eternity. (You need to go to God, not man...not even me, if you REALLY want to know the truth.)

BTW, Just because you can’t see clearly doesn’t mean you can’t hear. :)

Love in Jesus,
Kelby

“He that hath an ear, let him hear.”
I always believed in G_d at the back of my mind. Became catholic at 11, and began ‘earning’ my way. I sinned with such a high hand that I believe The Lord deserted me. At 31 I was broken, knowing I was heading for hell. I did an alpha (don’t agree with it now) and prayed ‘even though I know you can’t/won’t forgive me, I’m begging you anyway’, and asked Jesus into my heart. 😢 By His grace, I was given a N/T and began reading John-who was this man? (Id always thought Jesus was a good man). 10 yrs later, I decided to become an RE teacher (still earning) BUT right the end of my studies, I knew Jesus was G_d! I don’t teach RE, I don’t need to 😐 Ephesians 2:4-10

Jesus is Spirit. His words are Spirit and truth. The bible is his words written down.
Amen. "Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have."

You have simply redefined the word apostle

There are still apostles bringing prophecy the word of God. This board for sharing our bread is evidence.

All believers that defend the faith are apostles sent with his understanding prophecy.

God is still sending his message. Not a message of the apostles.

The first apostle as a prophet and martyr was Abel.

Once the word is defined its easy to se how it is used or abused and made to no effect..

Many denomination change the meaning of the word "apostle" and give it some sort of authroity or power to lead.

Apostle sent one used properly. I sent by son (apostle) to the grocery store with a written list. He performed the word that moved him to select the items . Anything added to the word makes it without effect.

You are overlooking the 12 Apostles not being regular apostles. They had special authority and are mentioned as foundational to Christianity.

My husband is well aware of our conversations and is saddened by your inability to see the truth. Focusing on the messenger and not the message is not wise. My prayer is that God will open your eyes; it is He that enlightens one's understanding. You go and have a blessed day, I dust my feet and walk away.

No such thing as a sign gift (look a gift) who needs faith?. They do not replace the spiritual gifts non viewable ones that work from the inside. .

It would seem you are promoting the gift of self edifying. "Look I did it a wonderful, wonderment .No faith coming from God needed..

That is making gods in the likeness of men , those who have no faith to understand the unseen work of the gospel .

When the words God put on the tongue of the apostle were spoken “Stand up on your feet!” as the gospel spoken nothing could resist the power of the unseen word. The man jumped up and began walking around.

Walking is a familiar metptphor used through out scripture in many parables to identify those who have the power of the gospel working in their bodies of death

2 Corinthians 4:7 But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.

Apostles have no power to create new life. The power of God empowers us to walk or understand the unseen work of God. Previously we were lame (no understanding) just like the person the gospel was applied to

Why blaspheme the name by which we are called Then we would follow what the apostles did.

And when the people saw what Paul had done, they lifted up their voices, saying in the speech of Lycaonia, The gods are come down to us in the likeness of men. And they called Barnabas, Jupiter; and Paul, Mercurius, because he was the chief speaker. Rent our clothes. Then the priest of Jupiter, which was before their city, brought oxen and garlands unto the gates, and would have done sacrifice with the people. Which when the apostles, Barnabas and Paul, heard of, they rent their clothes, and ran in among the people, crying out,And saying, Sirs, why do ye these things? We also are men of like passions with you, and preach unto you that ye should turn from these vanities unto the living God, which made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all things that are therein: Acts 14: 11-15

The apostles were the first to receive and put forward the message of the gospel. However, that message continues to be carried forward by those God has called throughout history. Until Jesus returns He is working through individuals to fulfill His purposes.

Please notice Jesus' words that apply to every born again believer:

"Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.

And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.

If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.

If ye love me, keep my commandments.

And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;

Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.

I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you." John 14:12-18

All irregular apostles would by a false ones . not sent by God.

That is another witness to help us not to make Apostle into gods in the likeness of men. The word apostle with the word 12 has a meaning assigned to it. Its why he used a remnant (12) of all that are shown (27) to include Jesus, a apostle sent with and empowered by the will of another. .,

Apostles are used in the same way as tribes as gates . 12 as the golden rule measure of faith is a metaphor designed to represent the unseen authority of God. Tribes as gates with apostles as walls. = The chaste virgin bride, the church.

The spiritual house of God made up of many lively stones.

One chaste virgin bride the wife of Christ, the church. She is made up of wall and gates . The unseen city we enter in by faith the golden faith measure. Not the measure of men the literal. . We are the temple of God in that way.
