I asked you if you believe we are not fully saved upon having faith in Jesus Christ. You responded with the above, however you wrote the following in your OP:
I would like to contend that the notion that salvation is given to us ONLY in return for believing in Jesus Christ as our Lord and savior is INCOMPLETE.
Ok I will clarify.
Christians are asked to do TWO things:
1. Believe in Jesus
2. Keep God's commandments (see below)
Christians have a duty to keep God's commandments:
John 14:15
"If you love me, keep my commandments"
Ecclesiastes 12:13
"Now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter: Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the duty of all mankind".
We are not required to keep God's commandments perfectly in order to attain salvation.
In fact, we will not be able to perfectly keep God's commandments due to our imperfection.
Jesus makes up for this shortfall.
However, if as Christians we don't turn away from sin following receiving Jesus into our lives, Jesus' sacrifice will not cover those sins:
Hebrews 10:26
"Dear friends, if we deliberately continue sinning after we have received knowledge of the truth, there is no longer any sacrifice that will cover these sins".
Other contributors to this thread have said that if a person who claims to be a Christian habitually willfully sins, then they were never a true Christian - I need to read up on that.
