Speaking of Ralph, I ran into some of his old posts and sure enough, "don't stop believing" is his theme song. Ralph is a one string banjo.
Actually, he's got some really good insights into the law and it's role in this New Covenant, too.
He's quite an interesting read on many subjects in the Bible.
A little lacking in end times things, though. :(

Now lets see if he ignores this post , I would find it strange at this point because he is very quick to reply your post on Eternal life , yet somehow manages to skip over the times we have asked if he is Ralph ...

The Only Way to be justified before a perfect God is to have ALL ones transgressions against His PERFECT standards Justly forgiven
And how do you do that?
You believe.
And you keep believing.
That's not a works gospel, so be careful not to lump that in with it. ;)

May and Might When Expressing Possibility

In popular usage and speech, may and might are used interchangeably when referring to possibility and probability, but there is a slight difference between the two.

May is used to express what is possible, factual, or could be factual. For example,
  • He may lose his job.
  • We may go on vacation.
  • I may have dessert after dinner.

Might is used to express what is hypothetical, counterfactual, or remotely possible. For example,
  • If you hurry, you might get there on time.
  • If I had shown up on time, I might have kept my job.
  • If I win the lottery, I might buy a Ferrari.
Right away we notice that might deals with situations that are speculative or did not actually happen, i.e. hypothetical, whereas may deals with situations that are possible or could be factual. An easy way to express/remember this difference is that might suggests a lower probability than does may.....Some people claim that you can use might have and may have interchangeably, but this is a bad idea.

'May' means 'might'.
Really.
Check it out for yourself:
https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/may

So the Catholics are not the only ones who acknowledge the actual Greek grammar in John 3:16.
Any honest person can see for themselves what the actual Greek is in that verse.
I don't know how the 'boring' vote is an appropriate response to being shown that 'might' and 'may' are synonymous with each other.
The least you could of done was honestly acknowledge that with an 'informative', or 'useful' vote.

Webster seems to think it's not only a good idea but that by definition you can actually do that:

Definition of may

1a—used to indicate possibility or probability

"—sometimes used where might would be expected
you may think from a little distance that the country was solid woods— Robert Frost"

Sounds like Ralph to me. Same one string banjo - "don't stop believing." Not sure why he won't give us a direct honest answer to that direct question. If Ralph was never banned, then he has nothing to hide. I guess some people just like to play games.

Yup...he likes the games.
Really though you can see he has studied a bit...
Ralph is an embarrassment now.

However too bad he did not get to the truth in his studies!

Oh but it is ... why because you preach the gift given can be lost/revoked/returned.

That by necessity makes a works false works Gospel.

Is it possible for you to believe you are a three thousand year old magical purple frog?

Orrrrrrr because you know that you are a human being it wouldn't be possible to make you believe otherwise?

The gospel of salvation is grace by faith, but God is not powerless and He is not hidden to His children. What starts as Him drawing us to faith, turns into a relationship likened to parent and child.

There is nothing I could do to unbelieve my father on earth. Or my Father in Heaven.

I was once in a discussion with a Roman Catholic about the NAB translation and when I pointed out to him that those who truly believe in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life (NASB) he basically told me that believing "is not enough," then went on to say that believing does not diminish the role of obedience to Christ in the process of getting to heaven.
Without having any more details of what this RC person believes, so far this is nothing more than what James says.

In other words, salvation is by believing + obedience/works according to him.
Does the Catholic church literally say that works earn salvation? Or is that just how you are hearing it?

He said that "justification" (instead of ongoing sanctification) is a process, which is a common error taught by works-salvationists.
Now that I know they do believe.
John 13:10 puts that argument to rest immediately.

He also accused me of ignoring the rest of the chapter in connection with what being born of water means in John 3:5, then he said it refers to baptism, so now it's believing + water baptism.
Actually, the 'water' in John 3:5 is referring to water baptism, but as a metonomy (spel?), not as the literal act of water baptism as a work that earns salvation.
You do indeed have to repent (signified in water baptism) AND be born from above to see and enter into the kingdom of God.

You are wrong about everything here.

Born of water = born of flesh. Jesus made it very clear.

How many accounts have you had on cc?
