Do you know that 1 John 2:4 does not say what you think it means. You see, in GREEK their are 6 primary Verb tenses, where as in English we only have 3 primary Verb tenses. Because of that, translating to English is a VERY POOR Language to translate the Bible into. John uses a lot of Verb tenses in his writings that we do not have in ENGLISH.

1 John 2:4 (NASB)
4 The one who says, "I have come to know Him," and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him;

In English, that is one of the most widely abused, and misused verses in the bible, BIBLE, because you absolutely have to have knowledge of the difference between Greek and English, to correctly understand it's meaning. The second book of the BIBLE I studied in my spiritual infancy, was 1 John. I had the help of Dr. John MacArthur's radio ministry, so I got off on the RIGHT FOOT, without making those common errors. The keep in that verse is one of those Verb tenses that we do not have in English and it means an ongoing lifestyle of striving to keep, that verb, without meaning PERFECTION, but a DIRECTION of your lifestyle.

IT IS ACTUALLY SAYING IN THE GREEK, I will now Paraphrase:

The one who says, "I have come to know [to receive HIM as my inner personal Lord] Him", and does not strive continually to keep His commandments as a lifestyle, is a liar and the truth is not in him;


Do you understand, we are not PERFECT in KEEPING, but we WILL STRIVE to KEEP HIS COMMANDS as a LIFESTYLE, controlled by our LOVE?

That is correct, they backslid, i.e. not eternally saved.

On most other topics I would agree....for me and due to my lived experience with those that teach salvation can be lost, I never tire and will never back down.

But that is just me...I am tenacious on this topic and loyal to the cause.🙂

No it is not gospel, because the gospel is believing upon Jesus and his completed work on our behalf. ....with understanding that the completed work means He paid a sin debt for us being the perfect sacrifice.

We have nothing to offer ...only to receive by faith/belief His free gift of His righteousness

Only weaker versions of what it actually says use knowing, {such as NIV, GWT, ect.} while stronger versions us KNOWLEDGE OF, and even the BEST KNOWN PARAPHRASE VERSION the KJV, USES:

2 Peter 2:20 (KJV)
20 For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning.

You see that knowing as it is used in weaker Verstions, is not referring to SALVATION, it is referring to HEAD KNOWLEDGE OF. Where as KNOWING HIM personally, and intimately in your HEART which is the HUMAN SPIRIT, IS SALVATION. Why is that so CRITICAL TO UNDERSTAND? Or you go off into another ball park, like you do. REMEMBER THE HUMAN SPIRIT THINKS TOO AFTER IT IS BORN AGAIN.

I really like the way that Young's Literal Translation words it:

2 Peter 2:20 (YLT)
20 for, if having escaped from the pollutions of the world, in the acknowledging of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, and by these again being entangled, they have been overcome, become to them hath the last things worse than the first,

That is not SALVATION, because even the Demons KNOW WHO HE IS and WHAT HE HAS SAID in their heads. BUT THEY DO NOT KNOW HIM IN THEIR HEARTS PERSONALLY. WE who are BORN AGAIN, DO KNOW HIM PERSONALLY, because HE IS IN OUR HEARTS (HUMAN SPIRIT), and the Holy Spirit has Baptized (IMMERSED) us into HIS Spiritual Body.

1 Corinthians 12:13 (HCSB)
13 For we were all baptized by one Spirit into one body—whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free—and we were all made to drink of one Spirit.
 
I think it is so funny :LOL: so many people on CC think they have salvation without having a glorified body; they will find out where they go without a glorified body. :eek:
